Trivium frontman Matt Heafy has officially released his metal cover of “Wellerman,” the song that started the sea shanty TikTok craze.

Heafy had previously teased his version of “Wellerman” during a recent Twitch stream. For the full version, he recruited Hungarian singer Livia Zita for guest vocals.

“I didn’t pick ‘Wellerman’ as a cover to do something ‘viral,'” Heafy says. “It was one of those songs — when you hear it, [you think], ‘It sounds like something Matt Heafy would cover.’ It was suggested by a close pal who thought exactly that.”

Along with the metal “Wellerman,” Heafy has also released folk and a cappella versions of the song. You can download all three now via digital outlets.

The sea shanty craze previously made it into the rock world with sailing versions of All Time Low‘s “Dear Maria, Count Me In” and Nickelback‘s “Rockstar.”

Trivium released a new album called What the Dead Men Say last April.
