Last month, Papa Roach teamed up with TikTok star Jeris Johnson to drop a new version of the band’s signature hit, “Last Resort.” As frontman Jacoby Shaddix tells ABC Audio, that’s not the last of the “Last Resort” reworks.
“Grandson did one,” Shaddix reveals. “My boy, my friend Ronnie Radke, Falling in Reverse, he’s doing something right now which I’m really excited about hearing…And then we got a version with Jason [Aalon Butler] from FEVER [333] that’s flipped.”
Reflecting on the now 20-year legacy of “Last Resort,” Shaddix says he “couldn’t imagine what this song was gonna do” back when he and his band mates first wrote it.
“We just were writing songs in the basement,” Shaddix remembers. “We dropped this track and it just took us on a rocket ship ride to fame and stardom and all that kind of stuff.”
“Really, what’s stuck with me is the staying power of this song,” he adds. “The way that it’s really touched a lot of people’s lives and affected a lot of people’s lives, and made a lot of kids be inspired to pick up f***ing guitars and play guitar rock.”
With younger artists such as Johnson keeping the song alive, Shaddix doesn’t see “Last Resort” going away anytime soon.
“It just keeps sending ripples,” Shaddix says. “Then Jeris gets a hold of this thing and it’s gonna f***ing drop a bomb and send more ripples, man.”
“It’s humbling to be part of something like that,” he continues. “To be a channel to get…this message out to the people and be a positive force in this world…f*** man, it’s a blessing.”
