If you keep streaming and buying Asking Alexandria‘s new single “Never Gonna Learn,” you’ll get an added bonus of helping to annoy the band’s producer.

For those that have been listening to “Never Gonna Learn,” which appears on the new Alexandria album See What’s on the Inside, you know it features a unique sound for a heavy rock tune: whistling. On the recording, the whistling was done by See What’s on the Inside producer Matt Good, which earned him an unwanted nickname.

“After we handed that song in, while we were in the studio, our record label owner, Allen Kovac, he called us and he renamed Matt Matt ‘The Lips’ Good,” guitarist Ben Bruce tells ABC Audio. “Matt hates that. Absolutely hates it.”

Naturally, Bruce wants “Never Gonna Learn” to be so successful that the nickname sticks.

“I’m really hoping that this single goes at least gold,” he says. “For no other reason than I can get a big plaque made to send to him that says ‘Matt ‘The Lips’ Good’ on it, and he’ll have to look at it every day.”

So far, so good, as “Never Gonna Learn” has been climbing up Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, where it currently sits at number 17. But beyond just bringing embarrassing attention to Alexandria’s producer, Bruce feels that the whistle serves an important sonic purpose in the song.

“The whistle comes in, and you’re kinda, like, ‘Whoa, what’s that?'” Bruce says. “It piques your interest, you’re, like, ‘What is that?'”

“It stands out from a lot of the stuff that we hear on the radio right now,” he adds. “The whistle is the driving force behind this entire song.”

See What’s on the Inside, which also features the lead single “Alone Again,” is out now.
