As the Pantera reunion shows draw closer, Charlie Benante has shared a batch of photos of the group rehearsing in New Orleans.
For the performances, the Anthrax drummer and Black Label Society‘s Zakk Wylde will be filling in for the late Abbott brothers Vinnie Paul and “Dimebag” Darrell, respectively. They’ll be playing alongside Pantera members Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown.
“[Two] weeks in NOLA with these boys, it’s been a lot of work but how could it not?” Benante captions the photos. “So much heart and soul is going into it. This is all about the Love for Vinnie and Dime, the fans and the music that these [four] created.”
“I’m really enjoying playing these songs — they sound Great!” the drummer continues. “It’s very emotional and it’s just starting to hit me…see you soon, I need a drink.”
Pantera’s first show back is scheduled for December 2 in Mexico. Without Dime and Vinnie, fans have questioned whether the performances signify a “true” Pantera reunion. While Anselmo and Brown have largely been quiet, Benante and Wylde have characterized the endeavor as a “celebration” of Pantera’s music.
