A Day to Remember‘s “Everything We Need” has given the band a career first.
The track, the closer off the Florida rockers’ new album You’re Welcome, currently sits at number five on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, the highest they’ve ever sat on the tally.
Speaking to ABC Audio, frontman Jeremy McKinnon shares that “Everything We Need” was inspired by the idea that, “These things are happening in your life that you can’t control, but at the end of the day, what do you have?”
“[The song is about] really taking that in and realizing everything that I really care about in my life I have,” McKinnon explains. “I’ve got my family, I have my loved ones that care about me…that gets me out of the bed in the morning.”
“Just because things don’t work out the way you planned them doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world,” he continues. “There are always positives to look at.”
That sentiment feels particularly apt given the world’s experience with the COVID-19 pandemic over the last year. And while “Everything We Need,” along with the rest of You’re Welcome, was originally supposed to be released in 2020 before being delayed to this year, McKinnon says it feels much more at home in 2021.
“It’s just such a positive mindset record,” McKinnon says of You’re Welcome. “Vibe-wise, it lives in this happier place.”
“All these exciting things that are so much happier are happening this year,” he adds. “There really feels like there’s hope, and I think [‘Everything We Need’] really speaks to that in a cool way.”
