Jackass Forever, debuted at No. 1 at the box office over the weekend earning $23 million in its first weekend, taking down Spider-Man: No Way Home, which has spent six of the last seven weeks at No. 1. The budget was just $10 million.  Moonfall, the weekend’s other new nationwide release, has less to celebrate. The sci-fi catastrophe film bombed, only earning $10.1 million. Moonfall cost $140 million to produce, making it one of the most expensive independent films in history.

Back in 2018 Pete Davidson said “Syracuse, you know, it’s trash. Worse than Staten Island. They show him on the jumbotron and he got destroyed by booing.

You can now take a college course about TAYLOR SWIFT.  It’s at New York University’s Clive Davis Institute.  Unfortunately, there’s a long waitlist for it The course description says, quote, “This course proposes to deconstruct both the appeal and aversions to Taylor Swift through close readings of her music and public discourse as it relates to her own growth as an artist and a celebrity. “Through readings, lectures and more, the class delves into analyses of the culture and politics of teen girlhood in pop music, fandom, media studies, whiteness and power as it relates to her image and the images of those who have both preceded and succeeded her.” The first class launched January 26th and runs through March 9th.  Taylor has been invited to speak, but there’s no word if that’s happening (LINK)

And now there is “Taylordle”, basically Wordle. This version was modified by the Taylor fan podcast “Holy Swift (LINK).  Only five-lettered words related to her life and music are used like “Lover”, “Scarf”, or even parts of song titles like “Blank” or “Space”. It’s free at Taylordle.com.  Out since January 28th and has already been played over a million times.

The 2022 NHL All-Star game had one lone rep from the Blues and that was forward Jordan Kyrou.  He participated in the fastest skater event on Friday…and WON the damn thing.  And then, he had five points in the 3-on-3 tournament with 2 goals and three assists.  Unfortunately – the Metro beat the Central 5-3 in the finals.

Yesterday in the Pro Bowl…the AFC beat the NFC 41-35 in a turnover-filled game before an announced crowd of 56,206. Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby had three batted passes and a sack and was named the game’s defensive MVP. Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was the offensive MVP, going 7-for-11 for 98 yards with two TD passes and an interception.

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara was arrested on a battery charge on Sunday in Las Vegas after being accused of injuring someone at a nightclub on the night of the Pro Bowl. Police said they were dispatched around 5:50 p.m. Saturday to a hospital where a person had reported a battery at a nightclub. The police said detectives determined the victim was battered by Kamara. After playing and making four catches for 23 yards for the NFC in Sunday’s Pro Bowl, Kamara was taken into custody without incident and booked at the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of battery resulting in substantial bodily harm. Kamara remained in jail Sunday night. His bail is set at $5,000, and a court hearing is scheduled for Monday afternoon.

Neither Kamara’s representatives nor the Saints immediately responded to a request for comment.

The Dolphins have agreed to a deal with San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel to make him their next head coach. The Dolphins gave McDaniel a four-year contract. McDaniel’s hiring marks the end of a nearly month-long search since the Dolphins fired Brian Flores on Jan. 10.  McDaniel, who identifies himself as multiracial, joins the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Mike Tomlin, Washington Commanders’ Ron Rivera and the New York Jets’ Robert Saleh as the league’s only minority head coaches.

The Houston Texans are now in talks with their associate head coach and defensive coordinator Lovie Smith about potentially becoming their next head coach. The Texans have included Smith in their discussions all along, but his candidacy has gained steam in recent days. Josh McCown will not be the Texans’ next head coach, and if Smith is hired, the team’s offensive coordinator is expected to be current quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Pep Hamilton, not McCown. Smith was previously an NFL head coach with the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He joined David Culley’s Texans staff in March last year after being fired following a five-year stint as head coach at the University of Illinois.

The NFL has awarded the two Universities in California $1 million to study marijuana. The league wants to know if weed could help its athletes better manage pain or help them better recover from concussions. Cannabis is a banned substance in the NFL but the research could lead to the league stepping away from its prohibition. Under its recent deal with its players, NFL players who test positive for marijuana don’t get suspended but could be fined depending on the number of positive tests.

Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai has told a French newspaper that international concern over her well-being is based on “an enormous misunderstanding” and she denied having accused a Chinese official of sexual assault. Peng was asked about a post in November on her verified account which kicked off a storm of international concern about her. In that post, Peng wrote that a former vice premier and member of the ruling Chinese Communist Party had forced her to have sex despite repeated refusals. Her post also said they had sex once seven years ago and she had feelings for him after that. Peng briefly disappeared from public view, then appeared at some promotional appearances arranged by the government. The interview was her first sit-down discussion with non-Chinese media since the accusation. Peng denied having accused Zhang of assault. She said: “Sexual assault? I never said that anyone made me submit to a sexual assault. This post resulted in an enormous misunderstanding from the outside world. My wish is that the meaning of this post no longer be skewed.”

In college basketball – the Mizzou Tigers beat Texas A&M 70-66 on Saturday – they play Vanderbilt tomorrow.  SLU beat Dayton and now head to La Salle for a game tomorrow.  And #18 Illinois took care of Indiana on Saturday.  Their next game is against 4th ranked Purdue tomorrow night.

The start of the women’s hockey preliminary-round game between Canada and Russia on Monday was delayed 65 minutes before being played with both teams wearing N95 masks, a first at the Beijing Winter Olympics. Canada initially declined to leave the locker room because COVID-19 tests taken earlier in the day by the Russian athletes had not yet been processed. The International Ice Hockey Federation eventually reached a compromise to have players from both teams wear masks. The Russian players eventually were allowed to remove their masks at the start of the third period after the test results showed no one was positive. The Canadians kept their masks on and won 6-1 to improve to 3-0 for the tournament.

Speaking of the Olympics – here are the current medal totals as of this morning….Sweden leads with 3 goals, the US has no gold but has picked up 3 silver, and the overall medal leader is the athletes from Russia who have a total of 6 medals, 2 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze
