MUSIC:

The legal feud that’s been going on since 2019 between Soundgarden and Vicky Cornell about the final songs Chris Cornell recorded with the band is over. In a joint statement on their Instagram accountson Monday says, “Soundgarden and Vicky Cornell, on behalf of the Estate of Chris Cornell, are happy to announce they have reached an amicable out-of-court resolution. The reconciliation marks a new partnership between the two parties, which will allow Soundgarden fans around the world to hear the final songs that the band and Chris were working on.” The seven songs were worked on from 2015 to 2017, the year Cornell died. He wrote two of the tracks by himself — “Cancer” and “Stone Age Mind.” He co-wrote “Road Less Traveled,” “Orphans” and “At Ophians Door” with Matt Cameron; “Ahead of the Dog” with Kim Thayil; and “Merrmas” with Ben Shepherd. Vicky Cornell sued the surviving members of Soundgarden, accusing them of withholding royalties from her over the seven recordings. Soundgarden countersued in 2020, saying that the unreleased recordings were from band writing and recording sessions that dated as far back as 2015. Cornell filed a separate suit in February 2021, asking a judge to settle a dispute over how much her inherited stake in the band was worth. She claimed the band offered to purchase Cornell’s interest “for the villainously low figure of less than $300,000.” Soundgarden’s lawyers responded by saying that Vicky and the Cornell estate had “hijacked” the band’s social media accounts. The dispute over the accounts was settled in June 2021 when control over the social media accounts were transferred back to the band’s surviving members.

When The Rolling Stones had Metallica open for them in San Francisco in 2005, little did they know that would shatter the dream of their drummer Lars Ulrich. Appearing on Bill Maher‘s Club Random podcast, he says the band was told to not “make eye contact” with Mick Jagger or to “talk to him.” But Ulrich did come away with something positive, and that was to how to properly treat their opening acts. “I always go and say hello to our support act. I look them in the eye, I ask them if there’s anything they need. It’s a human thing; if somebody comes out and plays on a Metallica stage, I want them to feel at home.”

Staind’s first new music in 12 years, a single called “Lowest in Me,” will be out on Wednesday.

It was a yikes of a 7th inning for the Cardinals yesterday. Pitchers Jack Flaherty and Andrew Pallante combined to give up a five-runs in the  seventh as the Arizona Diamondbacks broke open what had been a tie game. That is the Cardinals seventh loss of 11 home games this season. Cardinals rookie Alec Burleson hit his first home run of the season, and Willson Contreras went two for four with two doubles and an RBI.

Cards play the Dbacks again tonight at Busch with a start of 645pm

Contrary to what a mistaken TV graphic showed during the game broadcast — whoops — a Battlehawks’ win alone in the regular-season home finale against Orlando this upcoming Saturday does not get them into the postseason. This is one of the most confusing and maybe weirdly dumb ways to do a tiebreaker for any league anywhere. Here’s what has to happen.

If St. Louis (6-3) wins its final regular-season game, at home against Orlando (1-8) and Seattle (6-3) loses its final regular-season game, at home against Vegas (2-7), then the Battlehawks are in. If St. Louis loses and Seattle wins, the Battlehawks are obviously out. If both teams lose, the Battlehawks are in the playoffs because of a tiebreaker scenario that values the number of divisional losses, of which the Battlehawks would have fewer than Seattle. So what if St Louis and Seattle both win.. Hang on tight Here’s the scenario, straight from the league, updated as of Monday morning: If St. Louis and Seattle both win their final regular-season games, St. Louis needs to score 19 more points versus Orlando than Seattle scores against Vegas, AND St. Louis still must rank first in total points against to win the league’s fourth tiebreaker, which is best combined ranking among division teams in points scored and points allowed in all games. Total points and points allowed are not just for divisional games. It is point totals for the season, but only ranked against divisional opponents. Seattle has the current advantage in points for (215 to 196) and points against (168 to 174) at the moment.
