Spotify will allow listeners to submit their star ratings of podcasts as part of a new feature roll out yesterday. You will only be able to submit a rating after listening to at least 30 seconds of the show. Podcast creators will be able to check their star ratings — ranked from 1 to 5 stars — on their show pages as soon as the show has at least 10 ratings. As for now, Spotify’s rating system will stick with the five-star ranking and users will not be allowed to write in reviews, as is the case with Apple’s approach to ratings (LINK)
Almost 2 months after the fatal shooting of a cinematographer on the set of Rust the police would like to take a look see at Alec Baldwin’s cell phone. They” believe there may be evidence on the phone, due to individuals using cellular phones during and/or after the commission of crime(s),” This is the fifth search warrant so far. Baldwin’s attorneys say that they wanted a formal warrant for their client’s phone to protect his privacy. Baldwin’s side did say however…” While they evaluate the phone information, we hope that the authorities continue to focus on how the live rounds got on the set in the first place.”
The “Sex and the City’s” CHRIS NOTH has been accused of sexual assault by two women. The women’s names haven’t been released. They came forward separately. They were also separate incidents . . . one in Los Angeles in 2004, and one in New York in 2015. The women said it was the revival of the show that triggered them to speak out. Both women have shared detailed accounts . . . along with friends that can corroborate that something went down. In one case, there are medical records that show the woman was sexually assaulted, but at the time she didn’t say who. And in the other case, the “Hollywood Reporter”, which is where both women reported it, reviewed alleged text messages that show Chris and his “date” didn’t see eye-to-eye on what happened during an evening together. To put it bluntly, both women are claiming that Chris RAPED them. Chris denied the accusations in this statement . . . “The accusations against me made by individuals I met years, even decades, ago are categorically false. “These stories could’ve been from 30 years ago or 30 days ago . . . no always means no . . . that is a line I did not cross. The encounters were consensual. “It’s difficult not to question the timing of these stories coming out. I don’t know for certain why they are surfacing now, but I do know this: I did not assault these women.”
After an investigation into on-set behavior, comedian Jeff Garlin has left ABC’s The Goldbergs. He had played Murray Goldberg over the show’s nine seasons. Specifics into Garlin’s behavior haven’t been made public, but earlier this month the actor acknowledged that “there has been an HR investigation on me the past three years. HR has come to me three years in a row for my behavior on set.” There aren’t any details on how ABC will handle Garlin’s exit on the show.
Eric Clapton has won his case against a German woman who sold a bootleg of one of his 80s concerts on eBay – for $11. Clapton filed a suit against the 55-year-old widow after she tried to sell the bootlegged concert for a whole $11.20. She claimed she had no clue was infringing on any copyrights and that she was simply selling a CD her husband had bought from a department store in 1987. The judge ruled in Clapton’s favor and now she has to pay around $4,500 in court costs. If she continues to try selling the bootleg, she’ll have to pony up over $300,000 and could face six months in jail.

Last December, Bob Dylan (LINK) sold his song catalog for a little over $300 million dollars. Neil Young sold half of his publishing for $150 million this January. David Crosby, Stevie Nicks, Journey and Motley Crue have also cut deals for their masters and / or publishing rights. The pandemic has caused a dramatic reduction in touring revenue for musicians, and the current dominance of streaming media over physical media sales sucks for musicians. The latest icon to sell rights is Bruce Springsteen. He reportedly sold his masters and publishing catalog for half a billion dollars. He is selling his masters to Sony Music and his publishing to Sony Music Publishing.

The game between the Flyers and Canadiens had no fans in attendance. The Canadiens announced (LINK) they will not host a crowd at the Bell Centre following a request from Quebec public health officials due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases. The announcement explained there will be an update for Saturday’s game against the Boston Bruins on Friday. This comes the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors and Ottawa Senators will all limit crowds to 50 percent capacity starting Saturday because of new rules announced by Ontario that prevent more than half capacity for indoor venues with more than 1,000 people.
The Chiefs and Chargers met in Thursday Night Football in L.A last night. It was a back and forth contest with us having to wait to overtime to get a winner. The pair connected on a touchdown to tie the game, and connected again in OT to win it…but Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the Chiefs picked up the 34-28 winner in OT.
According to NFL Research (LINK), the Los Angeles Chargers QB passed Andrew Luck in the record book during Thursday’s game against the Chiefs. Herbert set the mark for the most passing yards in a quarterback’s first two seasons after already becoming the first quarterback to throw for 30 or more touchdowns in each of his first two seasons.
A scary moment from the game…Chargers tight end Donald Parham was in stable condition and being evaluated for a head injury after being removed on a stretcher in Thursday night’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Parham appeared to lose consciousness and was helped off the field on a stretcher early in the first quarter. He was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he was undergoing further tests and imaging. Parham, in his second year with Los Angeles, got his hands on a 5-yard pass from Justin Herbert (LINK) in the back of the end zone on fourth-and-goal, but he dropped the ball when the back of his head slammed into the ground. A camera zoomed on his face showed his eyes closed and his mouth open.
So some things to note about this upcoming week and its slate of games. The Rams now have 25 players on the COVID list. Its something like 70% of their starters are out. Odell Beckham Jr and Von Miller were the latest to be added to the list. The Washington Football Team has 21 players on the list. Crazy. So keep that in mind while making your picks. Cleveland Browns quarterback Case Keenum has also now tested positive for COVID-19. Starting quarterback Baker Mayfield already tested positive for the virus earlier this week and remains on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Nick Mullens, who was just added to the active roster Thursday, is now in line to start at quarterback for the Browns. Mullens started 16 games for the San Francisco 49ers from 2018 to ’20, but has yet to throw a pass for the Browns. Should be interesting. There are also some Saturday games as well so get your pick in right now.
Isaiah Thomas had a brief stint with the Lakers in 2018, getting traded to the team after an injury-filled half-season with LeBron James’s Cavaliers. Now, the former Celtics All-Star point guard will team back up with LeBron as the Lakers look to find some rhythm as we near the midway point of the season. On Monday, Thomas signed with the Nuggets’ G League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Gold. He had a huge game Wednesday, scoring 42 points along with eight assists and six rebounds in his G League debut. That was enough to catch the Lakers’ attention. Reports are that Thomas is signing a 10-day deal with L.A.
The NBA and NBA Players Association have reportedly agreed to new COVID-19 protocols for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays following a rise in the number of players placed in the league’s protocols this month. The use of masks will reportedly increase, and all players and Tier 1 personnel will undergo daily testing from Dec. 26 to Jan. 8. No one will be tested on off days, while “fully boosted or recently recovered players are exempt from testing.” As of Wednesday morning, 60 players had entered the league’s health and safety protocols this season, including 43 over the past two weeks.
Jake Paul said a $500,000 knockout incentive has been added to Tyron Woodley’s contract for their boxing rematch on Saturday night in Tampa. The YouTube star, who won the first meeting in August by split decision, announced the potential bonus for the former UFC fighter during a press conference Thursday: Paul moved his career record to 4-0 with the initial triumph over Woodley. That said, it was a far more competitive bout than his first three outings, all of which were early-round knockout wins over a YouTuber, former NBA player Nate Robinson and former MMA fighter Ben Askren. The rematch with Woodley comes after Tommy Fury withdrew from the card last week because of a “severe chest infection and broken rib.”
And finally – over the weekend there is some college basketball to check out. Mizzou will host Utah at 3:30PM tomorrow. The Billikens will host Auburn at 8PM. And Illinois will host St Francis at 12PM tomorrow
