Venom: Let There Be Carnage easily scored the best domestic opening at the box office with $90.1M, the biggest three-day launch of the pandemic era, fueling the biggest weekend overall since COVID-19 shut down theaters in March of 2020. It was released exclusively in theaters versus going simultaneously on premium VOD or a streaming service. It alsocame in $25 million to $30 million ahead of expectations.

Updates to a few stories from last week and beyond…Remember when Scarlett Johansson got made at Disney for as she said taking money out of her pocket by releasing simulataniously in theatrs and streaming? Then I said they were cool right? I jokingly said apparently someone wrote a check…Apparently that check went from Disney to Scarlett written for $40 million dollars with sorry in the memo line.

Johansson:…I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney. I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team. I look forward to continuing our collaboration in years to come.

And here’s Disney’s Alan Bergman,…I’m very pleased that we have been able to come to a mutual agreement with Scarlett Johansson regarding Black Widow. We appreciate her contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look forward to working together on a number of upcoming projects, including Disney’s Tower of Terror.

And…Remember Bam Margera (LINK) was picked up by cops and brought to rehab? Accord to him says he was photographed with a drink in his hand at a Florida casino, and it was part of a domino effect that ended with cops giving him a ride to a rehab facility. He had spent 140 days in a facility in Arizona for his manic bipolar disorder before being transferred to an outpatient facility in Florida where he was taking daily outpatient classes and staying with a friend and relative, and his wife and son were coming to visit him … but when their flight was delayed, he started killing time at a casino.  He says fans posted pictures of him with what appeared to be a drink in his hand, and he believes a panicked loved one saw the images and alerted law enforcement. That person also claimed Bam threatened to jump off a bridge … something Bam says was a misunderstanding. Im not sure but I don’t think he ever said if that was indeed booze in his up. Bam says he’s back in rehab for about 2 months … and all he wants is to work on himself so he can see his son and get back to filming.

David Lee Roth says he is retiring. Roth’s last five shows will take place at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay in Vegas on New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day and January 5th, 7th and 8th.

The new season of “Saturday Night Live” kicked off this weekend with Owen Wilson-Kacey Musgraves and had just 3.5 million viewers, which was the same for the last two episodes of Season 46 last May but less than half of what Chris Rock did for the Season 46 premiere. Rock’s show came in at around 7.5 million. Of course the election made “SNL” hot, and there was huge demand for political comedy. The Rock show was also the first one back in the studio after the pandemic had made “SNL” virtual. But the ratings last season dropped after the election was over,  leveled off to a regular “SNL” rating, then, after Nick Jonas hosted on February 27th, around 500,000 fans left and never came back. Why? Who knows? You want ratings… Kim Kardashian hosts next week.  Colin Jost and Michal Che, “Weekend Update” guys paid tribute to that segment’s best anchor ever, NORM MACDONALD. “Squid Game”, that Korean series that’s burning up Netflix.  And there’s an episode where the contestants have to cut shapes out of these little candy discs called dalgona, which is really hard because they’re so brittle.  And if you watch the show, you know that contestants who can’t complete a task DIE. Well, a candy maker in Seoul named An Yong-hui made those candies . . . and now, thanks to the show, he can’t keep up with the demand.  According to one report, he can barely go home anymore because people are lined up outside his shop when it opens.  And he’s selling more than 500 of them a day, when he used to sell less than 200 (LINK)

What is this sound? DAVE GROHL drumming with his teeth. Before he could afford a drum kit, he’d learn rhythms in his mouth and would use the pillows on his bed to represent drums and cymbals. This talent didn’t go over well with his dentist though. Dave said, quote, “I started doing it when I was a kid . . . I was at the dentist and he’s looking at my teeth . . . he says, ‘Do you chew a lot of ice?’ . . . I said, ‘I don’t think so, why?'” Turns out, the dentist saw an unusual amount of deterioration.  Dave said, quote, “I’m like, ‘Oh, wait!  I can play drums with my teeth!’ . . . I made him put his ear close to my mouth . . . and then he kicked me out.”

The video cost so much because fo tight deadlines and quick turnaround time required by the label…And the director said “…And Michael’s crazy. They gave me something like five weeks from the day they came to me to this hard premiere date…So we had to build all huge sets and do all these huge effects…It takes two weeks minimum to figure, write it down, prep it and budget it. Then it took 10 days to shoot it. That left us two and a half weeks to edit it and do the visual effects. So they, not me, had to throw money at it to get it done. And two million dollars of that was Michael and Janet’s perks and security and campers and trailers and assistants…So two million of that didn’t even go on the screen,”

The Cardinlas now officially know their fate.  They will be facing the LA Dodgers in Game 163 in LA.  The Card wrapped up their series with the Cubs yesterday with a 3-2 loss in a shortened game because of weather.  It was also Mike Shannon’s last regular season game with Cardinals.  The Cardinals have already announced that they will send Adam Wainwright to the mound.  The Dodgers will counter with Max Scherzer.  First pitch on Monday is scheduled for 7:10PM.

The Postseason is set for Major League baseball.  Things start tomorrow with the Yankees taking on the Red Sox in the Wild Card game.  Then on Wednesday it’s the Dodgers and the Cards in LA.  The winner of the Yankees/Red Sox will take on the Rays as the White Sox take on the Astros.  In the NL, the winner of the Wild Card takes on the Giants as the Braves take on the Brewers.

The St. Louis Blues lost to the Blackhawks 5-1 in preseason action over the weekend…they now will take on the Stars tomorrow at 7PM in Dallas.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid became the first coach in NFL history ever to win 100 games with two different franchises. The Chiefs earned a 42-30 win on Sunday over the Philadelphia Eagles, the other team Reid won 100 games for. Reid has been considered one of the most innovative offensive coaches in the NFL. Under Reid’s leadership, Kansas City has finished no lower than 2nd in the AFC West since he became head coach in 2013. Reid won his first Super Bowl in 2019 when the Chiefs topped the San Francisco 49ers.

Tom Brady is the GOAT.  Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady set the NFL career passing record Sunday night against the Patriots, surpassing Drew Brees who previously held the record. Brady became the league’s all-time passing yards leader when he found wide receiver Mike Evans with just over six minutes to go in the first quarter on a 28-yard completion. The quarterback, who is in his 22nd season in the NFL, entered Sunday night’s contest just 67 yards shy of Brees’s record. Brees, who is an analyst with NBC, was in attendance for Sunday Night Football when Brady broke his record.  Brady already owns the NFL’s all-time regular-season record for touchdown passes, entering Sunday’s game in New England with 591 compared to second-place Brees’s 571. Brady is also the league’s all-time leader in playoff passing yards and playoff passing touchdowns.

49ers rookie Trey Lance replaced Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback on Sunday as San Francisco hosted Seattle in an NFC West battle. Garoppolo sustained a calf injury in the first half, leading to Lance starting the opening series of the third quarter. Garoppolo threw for 165 yards and one touchdown before exiting the game. Lance tossed his second career touchdown pass during his third series on Sunday. He found wideout Deebo Samuel open on the right sideline, and Samuel sprinted forward unabated to the end zone before scoring a 76-yard touchdown. Lance would add another touchdown throw to Samuel in the fourth quarter, and also ran for a two-point conversion that cut the deficit to 28–21. But Seattle would hold on for the win.

Mizzou hosted Tennessee over the weekend and they were looking to bounce back from a 41-34 loss to Boston College last week.  And instead, they got their asses kicked.  Final score 62-24.  Yikes.  Mizzou hosts North Texas this weekend.  Illinois DID pick up the win against Charlotte.  24-14 final.  They take on Wisconsin this weekend.
