A Rock “Resurgence of Guitars” Is Going to Be Ushered in By . . . U2? If you’re at the gym working out . . . and you’re craving real GUITAR . . . do you turn on “Beautiful Day” by U2 and CRANK IT UP? The guitar isn’t as prevalent in mainstream music as it used to be . . . but U2 guitarist The Edge says he wants to kick-start a “resurgence of guitars.” He tells “MOJO” magazine that he believes the “pendulum is going to start swinging in the other direction” . . . and that guitars will start becoming more popular than synths, samples, and computer-generated sounds. He says there’s been “a drift away from the instrument” in recent years, but that Fender is selling more guitars than ever before . . . and they’re ready for it. Bono recently said that the next U2 album will be a “noisy, uncompromising, unreasonable guitar album.”  And The Edge adds . . . quote, “We are turning the amps on . . . the rock that we all grew up with as 16- and 17-year-olds . . . that kind of power is something we’d love to connect back into.”

MORGAN WALLEN TOPS ALBUM CHART… Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time” earned 209,500 equivalent album units to top the Billboard 200 albums chart for the third straight week since its release. SZA’s “SOS” jumped into second place after earning 72,000 equivalent album units. Taylor Swift’s “Midnights leaped into third place with 61,000  equivalent album units earned. Miley Cyrus’ “Endless Summer Vacation” slipped into fourth place after earning 49,000 equivalent album units. U2’s “Songs of Surrender” debuted in fifth place with 46,500 equivalent album units earned.  

Metallica Bassist Robert Trujillo Recorded Backup Vocals on a Song for the First Time

Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo recorded backup vocals for the first time, ever.  It’s for a song called “You Must Burn” off their upcoming album, “72 Seasons”. In an interview on their So What! blog, Robert said, quote, “When I joined Metallica [in 2003], I’d never sung in my whole life, so the fact that I can now support a backup vocal is pretty cool . . . “I’m very proud of that.  So we’re getting better.  We’re learning and still growing in this band . . . The respect level is much higher.” Technically he DID record some backup vocals for “Hardwired… to Self-Destruct”, but it didn’t make the final cut. “72 Seasons” comes out April 14th. They’ll be here in St. Louis on Friday, November 3rd and Sunday, November 5th. Godsmack and Staind announced a co-headlining tour. They’re coming to the Hollywood Casino Ampitheatre on Tuesday, July 18th. In fact, we’re the first show on the tour. Tickets go on sale this Friday.  

Queen and Adam Lambert Announce North American Tour

Queen and Adam Lambert have announced a 2023 North American Tour! The ‘Rhapsody’ Tour kicks off in Baltimore on October 4th with stops in major cities like Boston, New York, Atlanta, L.A…. AND… the closest they’re coming is Chicago on October 30th. Brian May said “Our last tour featured our most ambitious production ever. So we decided to rip it apart and get even more ambitious. Watch out world.” Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 31st at Ticketmaster.com.

Eric Clapton has announced a 2023 tour, taking Jimmy Vaughn with him as opener. Eric Clapton plays Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania first on September 8th with shows in St. Paul, Toronto, Denver and…. St. Louis. He’ll be at Enterprise Center on September 12th. Tickets go on sale this Friday at EricClapton.com/Tour.

Nick Mason Calls Waters’ Re-Recorded ‘Dark Side of The Moon’ ‘Brilliant’

Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason thinks Roger Waters’ re-recorded version of ‘Dark Side of The Moon’ is “brilliant”. He said “He actually sent me a copy of what he was working on and I [wrote] to him and said, ‘Annoyingly, it’s absolutely brilliant!’ It was and is. It’s not anything that would be a spoiler for the original at all, it’s an interesting add-on to the thing.” Nick Mason has also supported Roger Waters, who is fighting to get his shows in Germany back on the books.  They were cancelled due to Waters’ alleged antisemitism.  Mason was one of the many artists who signed a petition to help Waters.  

Monsters of Rock Cruise Announce Full Lineup

The ‘Monsters of Rock’ Cruise has announced its lineup when the cruise sets sail from Port Canaveral, Florida on April 29th. Tesla, Extreme, Queensryche and Quiet Riot’s Stephen Pearcy are just a few of the over 40 acts across two stages cruising to the Dominican Republic and private isle of Labadee the first week of May. Comedians Jim Florentine and Don Jamieson will also be on board. Learn more at MonstersOfRockCruise.com.

Federal Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Over Childish Gambino’s “This Is America”

This is America, where we are lawsuit happy, but one against Childish Gambino has been dismissed.  A suit claimed Childish Gambino’s 2018 “This Is America” took parts from Kid Wes’ “Made in America.” A federal judge threw the case out last week. The judge said the two songs were “not substantially similar,” and the choruses were “entirely different.”

UPDATE: Jonathan Majors Charged with Multiple Counts of Assault After Arrest

If you’ve seen the new Creed movie, Jonathan Majors is the bad guy. In the Marvel Universe, he’s Kang the Conqueror. Dude is HOT right now. But he’s also in trouble. Yesterday, he was officially charged with multiple misdemeanor counts of assault and harassment. He was arrested over the weekend in New York City. He’s been charged with three counts of assault in the third degree, aggravated harassment in the second degree, three counts of attempted assault in the third degree and harassment in the second degree, after he was arrested for an alleged domestic dispute on Saturday. The charging documents say that he hit a woman in the face with an open hand and grabbed her hand and neck, quote, “causing bruising and substantial pain.” His lawyer said he’s completely innocent and HE’S probably the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows. His lawyer also says that there’s video footage from the car where this all took place and witnesses that say that none of this happened.

Liv Tyler is coming back to Marvel. Fifteen years after her appearance in The Incredible Hulk, Liv Tyler will return as Betty Ross in Captain America: New World Order. Her character is the daughter of Marvel’s General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Harrison Ford will take over the role of Thunderbolt after the death of William Hurt. Captain America: New World Order is scheduled for a May 2024 release.

Newly available Tom Brady is starting to get his feet wet in the dating game after 13 years of marriage. He split from Gisele Bündchen last October. A source told Page Six that the former quarterback “is dating around.” “He’s shopping,” says the source. “He is out and about.” In February, Tom Brady said he was uninterested in dating and focused on his kids.

Saturday Night Live has released its lineup of April hosts and musical guests. The Jonas Brothers, Nick, Joe, and Kevin were just announced to be upcoming musical guests on Saturday Night Live on April 8th, with host Molly Shannon. The Jonas Brothers’ last performance on the show was in 2019. The Jonas Brothers’ upcoming performance comes just one day after their next single, “Waffle House,” is released, so guessing they’ll perform that. The show had already announced that Lil Yachty would perform on this weekend’s April 1st show alongside host Quinta Brunson. Then, on April 15, Oscar nominee Ana De Armas will be joined by Karol G.
