A Guy Ran from the Cops, Did a Crazy Jump onto a Building, and Got Caught Anyway

The way this starts is dumb, and the end is even dumber:  A 25-year-old guy in Brooklyn got pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt on Wednesday.  And instead of just taking the ticket, he decided to run.

He flung his car door open and hit a cop with it, then took off.  So a bunch of cops started chasing him on foot, but had to just stop and watch after he scaled a huge pole . . . like 30 feet . . . and climbed onto a subway platform.

That’s where it really got dumb, because he decided his best chance to get away was by JUMPING from the platform onto a nearby building.  And it wasn’t an easy jump.  He had to make it 10 or 15 feet to not hit the sidewalk.

Someone got it on video, and people on the ground kept telling him it wasn’t worth it.  But he went for it anyway and actually LANDED it.  Then after all that, he got arrested anyway.

He hurt his leg when he hit the roof, so he couldn’t run anymore.  It’s not clear if he broke it or what, but he’s expected to be okay.

When You Say Turn the A/C “Up,” Do You Mean Cooler or Warmer?

We were surprised how divided people are on this question . . .

If someone asks you to turn the air conditioning UP, what do you think they mean?  Do they want the room cooler, or warmer?

Over 4,000 Americans were polled, and most say it means WARMER.  As in, “turn the TEMPERATURE on the A/C up.”

Of the people who answered, 62% said “up” means warmer and “down” means cooler.  38% said the opposite, that “up” means cooler.

Your answer might depend on where you’re from though.  People in the South and Midwest are the most likely to say turning the A/C “up” means you want it warmer.  It’s a little closer to an even split out West, and especially in the Northeast.

But no matter where you live, if turning the A/C “up” means cooler to you, you’re in the minority.

Hollywood legend James Caan died Wednesday night.  The cause of death has not been revealed.  He was 82. He was in so many great movies, including “The Godfather”“Misery”“Honeymoon in Vegas”“Brian’s Song”“Freebie and the Bean”“Rollerball”“Funny Lady”“Alien Nation”. . .And, of course, “Elf”, where he played Will Ferrell’s dad.  He also did the TV series “Las Vegas” from 2003 to 2007, and kept working right up to the end.  He even has a few movies due for release next year. As Sonny Corleone in “The Godfather”, he improvised what would become a classic phrase, while instructing his brother Michael on how to kill someone. Caan is also famous for movies he turned down . . . including “The French Connection”“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”“Kramer vs. Kramer”“Apocalypse Now”and “Superman”. He even said no to playing Han Solo in “Star Wars”. James once famously lived at the Playboy Mansion for a while, claiming he was trying to get over a divorce.  He even admitted to using his son Scott Caan, who was just a kid at the time, to attract the ladies.

This story is wild… Bevin Prince from “One Tree Hill” lost her husband over the July 4th weekend, after he was struck by lightning. William Friend was boating with friends last Saturday when he was struck by lightning near Masonboro Island in North Carolina.  Deputies performed CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was 33. Bevin and William were married in 2016, and owned a fitness company in North Carolina. Bevin played ..wait for it…Bevin on “One Tree Hill”.

Denise Richards followed in her daughter’s footsteps just recently, and joined OnlyFans. She said that while her first intention was to support her daughter, she also shared another reason why she decided to join the platform. Denise explained that Sami “got a lot of backlash for opening the account. She said that she had heard of OnlyFans but  wasn’t educated on what OnlyFans was. She said that when she started to learn about it, she thought that the creators of the site really took the best of every platform of social media and put it into one site. Denise added, “We all post pictures with ourselves with bathing suits on Instagram and some of the other sites that there’s no difference other than you actually own the content.”

A hand-painted mandolin that Janis Joplin once owned then gifted to Jimi Hendrix just sold for $281,250 at an auction after 29 bids. It’s painted with flowers, their names, and the phrases, “love thy neighbor” and “flowers, beads, bangles forever”. This was the first time it ever hit the auction block.  A private collector acquired it from the Memphis Music Hall of Fame 20 years ago.

In what appears to be a classic Michael Scott-style screw up, NBCUniversal is currently unable to get the trademark on the name “Dunder Mifflin” (the fictional paper company from The Office) because a different company—actually owns it.  NBCUniversal is appealing the rejection it received from the U.S. Patent And Trademark Office and suing Jay Kennette Media Group for allegedly being a “trademark squatter” that has “built a business based on registering trademarks belonging to others” and then either selling those trademarks back to their “rightful” owners or actually selling merchandise related to the trademarks. But one does not become an alleged trademark squatter by owning one trademark, so what else does Jay Kennette Media Group own? Well….it owns “Tree Hill Ravens” (the basketball team from One Tree Hill), “Dillon Football” (as in Dillon, Texas from Friday Night Lights), “Nostromo” (the ship from Alien), “Super Saiyan” (which is one some anime character Goku’s thing when his hair turns yellow), and “Hillman College” (from A Different World), in addition to Dunder Mifflin.

Martha Stewart’s dating pool is BONE DRY right now.  But she’s got a plan to land her some action:  Just outlive her friends and get with their men.  On Chelsea Handler’s podcast, Martha admitted she’s getting NOTHING these days. She said, quote, “I had two mad crushes in the last month which is really good for me, but turns out one of them is married to the mother of some friends of mine.  He’s so attractive.”  So what does Martha plan on doing with her future and her romantic interests?  ((AUDIO))

We’ve seen Johnny Depp and Amber Heard go head to head in the courtroom.  But now we get to see them duke it out IN THE RING.  There’s a wrestling promotion called MicroMania, and they specialize in matches involving little people. During a show Wednesday night at the Whiskey A Go-Go in L.A., they had a match between mini-Amber and mini-Johnny . . . who had a miniature version of his attorney Camille Vasquez in his corner. Johnny came to the ring to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” theme, while Amber’s walk-out music was “Crazy Bitch” by Buckcherry.  And even though Amber resorted to using FECES as a weapon, Johnny was victorious in the end . . . with a little help from his lawyer.  The video is ridiculous and on today’s blog.  ((LINK: https://www.tmz.com/2022/07/07/mini-johnny-depp-mini-amber-heard-wrestling-whisky-a-go-go/))

It’s taken decades, but the Backstreet Boys announced they’re releasing their first Christmas album.  It’s called “A Very Backstreet Christmas” and it comes out October 14th. Howie said, quote, “We’ve been wanting to do a Christmas album for nearly 30 years now . . . We had such a fun experience putting our BSB twist on some of our favorite Christmas classics.” The album has 13 songs, including classics like “White Christmas” and “Silent Night” and three originals.  Target will have an exclusive version with two additional songs:  “Feliz Navidad” and “It’s Christmas Time Again”.

Someone got a protection order against RICKY MARTIN, but he says he did nothing wrong.  The details are a little fuzzy, but here’s what we know: According to a newspaper in Puerto Rico, the accuser claims he was in a relationship with Ricky for seven months, but they had a messy breakup.  Since then, Ricky has supposedly been harassing the guy, and he “fears for his safety.” Ricky issued a statement on Sunday, saying the protection order is, quote, “based on completely false allegations.”  But he wouldn’t say anything else about them. However, Ricky’s brother Eric said the accuser is an estranged nephew with mental health problems.

Beyoncé is making a statement with her new album, and not just through the music.  Sources say she’s been really careful about who she works with, in the wake of the #MeToo movement. She even refused to collaborate with two high-profile artists because they’re facing sexual misconduct allegations. She’s particularly sensitive about it because a producer she worked with on her 2013 hit “Drunk In Love” was arrested two years ago and charged with 15 counts of sexual assault. He denies it, but it was still, quote, “devastating” to Beyoncé when she found out.  A source says she’s running #MeToo checks on all producers and artists before working with them. The new album comes out July 29th.

Chris Brown wants you to say something nice about him.  After a top-five chart debut for his Breezy album, Brown is blaming the media for not talking about his music but always talking about his misgivings.  Brown posted on Instagram, “July 8th [Breezy] deluxe album, not that [it] matters… SEEMS LIKE YALL ONLY INVEST IN THE NEGATIVE STORIES ABOUT ME. CHRIS GETS IN TROUBLE (THE WHOLE WORLD IS ON it). Chris drops album…[cricket emojis].” Breezy moved 72,000 album-equivalent units in its first week out. The album rose to number four on the Billboard 200 chart

Journey’s first album in 11 Years is out today.  Obviously it features their classic rock sound, but check out the new love ballad that they’re so good at.  It’s called “Still Believe In Love”.  The album is called “Freedom”.

Olivia Rodrigo has been inviting some special guests onstage during her current tour.  Last night in London, Natalie Imbruglia came out and they sang her 1997 song “Torn”.  It turned into a big singalong with the crowd.

And finally – a little local love for country singer Alexandra Kay.   If you don’t know who she is – she is a country singer that pretty much got her fame on TikTok.  Last fall she was just another artist, until Tim McGraw saw the video of her making ice coffee while singing “Don’t Take the Girl”.  Not only did he share the clip, he invited her to be one of the openers on his 2022 tour. When something works, try it again.  Last month she posted a video of herself doing a medley of Creed songs.  That got singer Scott Stapp’s attention, and he did his own split screen “duet” reaction post.  Scott lives near Nashville, so they worked it out for him to join her onstage last Friday at the Opry Plaza Party.  They did a medley of Creed hits and he said, quote, “I have tremendous respect and admiration for her.  I wanted to sing with her before she gets too busy selling out arenas.”
