There is a new movie coming to Netflix described thusly…”an incisive examination of modern love and family dynamics and how clashing cultures, societal expectations, and generational differences shape and affect relationships”. Yes that’s a new comedy with Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill co-written by Hill. Murphy is also reportedly working on a Beverly Hills Cop reboot for Netflix.

A fourth “Expendables” movie is officially in the works.  Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Randy Couture, and Dolph Lundgren will all be back. There’s no word on any other potential returning cast members, but they’re adding some new faces, like Megan Fox, 50 Cent, and martial artist Tony Jaa. Production starts this fall.

Jon Stewart’s return to television is happening next month. His Apple TV+ series, The Problem with Jon Stewart, will debut on September 30th.  New episodes will premiere every other Thursday.  A companion podcast will be released weekly.  Stewart’s new show will take one hour to focus on a single issue. Apple TV says the former host of The Daily Show will interview people “who are impacted by the issue — as well as those who have a hand in creating the impact.” The podcast is aimed at expanding the conversation.

Disney’s Jungle Cruise is getting a sequel. Multiple sources report that both Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt will return in their starring roles. The film crossed the $100 million mark in domestic ticket sales last weekend.

SARAH PAULSON wore a fat suit to play LINDA TRIPP in “Impeachment: American Crime Story”.  Which makes sense, because Sarah is pretty slim, and Linda . . . wasn’t. But once trailers for the series started airing, people started criticizing Sarah for doing so, for two reasons.  One, she allegedly “stole” the part from a larger actress.  And two, she contributed to the stigma against overweight people. And now, Sarah says she regrets wearing the fat suit, and probably won’t ever do it again. And while she says the conversations people are having now are legitimate, she adds, quote, “I do think to imagine that the only thing any actor called upon to play this part would have to offer is their physical self is a real reduction of the offering the actor has to make. “I would like to believe that there is something in my being that makes me right to play this part.”

Notorious gambler BEN AFFLECK stars in an ad for the new sports betting app WynnBET . . . and Ben even directed the spot. Also appearing in the commercial . . . another notorious gambler by the name of LUPE RODRIGUEZ . . . also known as J-LO’s mom.  SHAQUILLE O’NEAL and actor MELVIN GREGG from “Nine Perfect Strangers” are in it, too. Legend has it that Lupe once won $2.4 million (LINK) on the slots at the Borgata Casino in Atlantic City.

KORN returned to the stage last Friday in Chicago after JONATHAN DAVIS battled COVID-19 earlier this month.  He is still dealing with the aftermath . . . he had to use an oxygen mask between songs and spent most of the show sitting on a throne (LINK). Jonathan said, quote, “I’m [effing] feeling very weak but I [effing] refuse to [effing] cancel!!!” Guitarist Brian Welch even said that Jonathan is still feeling, quote, “physically weak and having a mental battle,” but that he’s drawing on the energy of the fans.

JUSTIN BIEBER now has the record for most Spotify streams in a single month.  He earned over 83.3 MILLION streams in July. Right behind him was THE WEEKND with 74.5 million and ED SHEERAN with 72.4 million. The record was previously (LINK) held by ARIANA GRANDE for 82 million streams last December.

Metallica is going to lead a “master class” in guitar instruction through the virtual music instruction app Yousician early next year. It sounds like another potential goldmine for Metallica, with Yousician giving the band an upfront fee, licensing royalties and a share of any revenue they bring in. Until then, Metallica’s remastered and expanded black album and their massive charity tribute album, The Metallica Blacklist, both drop on September 10th. Details at Yousician.com

Tito Jackson says there is a plan for more music from Michael. This one has a twist though. First of all Sony has the rites. Tito said the Jackson family has plans to record a new studio album, their first since 1989, and that they hope to record a new track featuring previously unknown material from Micheal

Jon Lester went 6 ½ innings and only gave up 1 hit as the Cardinals beat the Reds 3-1 in Cincinnati yesterday.  Paul Goldschmidt hit his 22nd homer of the year in the win.  Giovanni Gallegos picked up his 3rd save of the year.  Tonight the two teams are back at it.  Miles Mikolas gets the start.  First pitch is scheduled for 5:40PM.

Sticking with the Cardinals…but unfortunately…not some good news…Juan Encarnacion, a former MLB player from the Dominican Republic, allegedly sexually assaulted his daughter, a minor, in May. The prosecution alleges that the 45-year-old entered his daughter’s room while she was asleep and took advantage of her, committing sexual assault. Due to the nature of the accusation, he is not allowed to be released on bail. Encarnacion played 11 seasons in the majors from 1997-2007 for the Tigers, Reds, Marlins, Dodgers and Cardinals.

When Carson Wentz got hurt earlier this year with a foot injury, the Colts said their starting QB culd be out anywhere from 3-12 weeks.  That’s a huge gap.  The latter number was so concerning, people thought they may look into signing Philip Rivers to help out.  But, luckily for the team, Wentz returned in about 4 ½ weeks.  Ready to go.  Taking those 1st snap reps.  And then…he got put on the Covid list and is now in jeopardy of missing the home opener.  Wentz was in close contact with someone who DID test positive so he will be forced to sit out at least 5 days.  The Colts staff believe that he’ll still be on pace to start during Week 1.

The NFL and NFLPA have agreed to updated COVID-19 protocols for the 2021 season. The updated protocols include weekly testing for fully vaccinated players and staff. Vaccinated players can reportedly opt in to taking a voluntary second test each week, while unvaccinated players will reportedly be required to undergo a COVID-19 test every day at the club facility.  Unvaccinated players will not be required to wear masks at outdoor practices or walkthroughs, though masks will still be required indoors. All team medical staff, strength and conditioning coaches and equipment staff will be required to wear masks.

Rajon Rondo will sign with the Lakers after he clears waivers. The one-year deal is reportedly worth $2.6 million. Rondo, 35, agreed to a buyout with the Grizzlies on Saturday and it was believed that Los Angeles would be front-runners to sign the two-time NBA champion. Rondo was a key part of the Lakers’ 2020 championship run but parted ways with the team that same offseason when he signed a deal with the Hawks. He was eventually traded to the Clippers before being dealt to the Grizzlies.

Ronaldo has signed for Manchester United for a second time. The deal is a two-year contract with the option to extend for a further year. Ronaldo said: “Manchester United is a club that has always had a special place in my heart, and I have been overwhelmed by all the messages I have received since the announcement on Friday. I cannot wait to play at Old Trafford in front of a full stadium and see all the fans again.”

While ESPN’s The Last Dance documentary chronicling the Bulls dynasty of the 1990s focused on Michael Jordan, the Dennis Rodman segments were among the most memorable. Fans interested in more details about The Worm will reportedly be in for a treat. Rodman is one of the executive producers for the upcoming movie 48 Hours in Vegas, which is based on his trip to Las Vegas during the 1997-98 season when the Bulls won the championship. While Rodman’s off-court headlines, including the trip to Sin City, always stood out, he was a critical part of Chicago’s second three-peat.
