He IS back in the public eye for his role as a real life possible girlfriend beater. Article says he and his girlfriend got into an argument while at the Hyatt in Oklahoma City. Nominees for the 79th annual “Golden Globes” were announced yesterday, but does anyone care? At this point they’re not even going to be televised, after NBC broke ties with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Allegations of bribery and grift . . . along with the fact that until recently the HFPA didn’t even have a single black member . . . kicked off a serious fall from grace for the “Globes”. Yesterday’s press conference didn’t up their cred any. SNOOP DOGG helped read off the nominees. Not sure if Snoop was high on his own supply or what. If you care, “The Power of the Dog” and “Belfast” led film nominees, with seven each . . . and “Succession” earned the most nominations for a TV series with five. The awards will be given out January 9th . . . but there’s no word yet how.
The films being added to the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry for this year have been announced. These films…“Films help reflect our cultural history and creativity — and show us new ways of looking at ourselves. Some of the more recognizable ones are Return of the Jedi, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Selena. 25 total films. Richard Pryor: Live in Concert, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Cooley High and WALL-E are some more. The librarian each year names 25 motion pictures at least 10 years old that are “culturally, historically or aesthetically” significant. There are now 825 films in the registry (LINK)
OZ is campaigning for a Pennsylvania seat in the U.S. Senate . . . and he’s already complaining that he’s being treated unfairly. He’s mad at the “Philadelphia Inquirer” because they’ve decided NOT to call him “Dr. Oz” when covering his campaign. Instead, they’ll just call him by his name, which is MEHMET OZ. So of course, MEHMET went on Fox News to complain (LINK) that they’re trying to “silence” and “cancel” him, and says they hate that he’s “empowering” the people and taking on the establishment. The “Inquirer” hasn’t officially responded, but one of their writers pointed out that Oz isn’t the only person in the race with an MD. There’s also a candidate named Val Arkoosh, whom the paper identifies as . . . VAL ARKOOSH, not “Dr. Arkoosh”. He added, quote, “Oz wants special treatment and brand promotion, not fairness.” Meanwhile . . . now that MEHMET is a political candidate, his show is ending. It’ll be replaced by a show called “The Good Dish”, hosted by his daughter DAPHNE.
MERYL STREEP was supposed to do a nude scene in the new movie “Don’t Look Up”, but her co-star LEONARDO DICAPRIO wouldn’t let it happen. Director Adam McKay says Meryl was okay with it, but Leo wasn’t because he, quote, “views Meryl as film royalty . . . a special figure in the history of film.” So they went with a body double. And by the way . . . she was only supposed to be seen from behind (LINK)
