The Cardinals’ lost their 16th one-run game of the season, 4-3, in the opener of a three-game series in front the Busch Stadium packed house Monday night. They had the tying run in scoring position in the eighth and ninth innings. They also had the go-ahead run in scoring position in the eighth. Cards came into the series having lost the final two games of their weekend series with the Cincinnati Reds as part of a stretch that included nine losses in their previous 12 games. Goldschmidt and Dejong both “went yard” and that means DeJong now is tied with Randal Grichuk for the seventh-most career homers at Busch Stadium III. Then, the Cardinals lost a series-clinching second game of a three-game series with the Giants 11-3 at Busch Stadium last night. It’s the fourth straight loss at home for the Cardinals who are now 27-41. That came with its share of boo birds halfway through the game. They’ve now lost 11 of their last 14, and they entered the day in last place in the National League Central Division. The teams wrap up their series on this afternoon. The Cardinals have a scheduled day off on tomorrow before they go on the road for 11 days, including their trip to London, where they’ll play the Chicago Cubs in England’s London Stadium as part of the MLB London Series on June 24-25.
