Last night’s Emmys lasted for more than three hours . . . and a big part of the reason for that was the guy who WOULDN’T SHUT UP. His name is Scott Frank. He won an award for directing “The Queen’s Gambit”. . . and once he stepped up to the mic, he pulled out a TWO-PAGE SPEECH and preceded to drone on for THREE AND A HALF MINUTES. They hit him with the wrap-it-up music THREE TIMES. The first time, he got OFFENDED. The second time he said, “I’m almost done” . . . but it took him more than a minute to finish. JASON SUDEIKIS won Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for “Ted Lasso”, and when he went to shout-out “SNL” boss LORNE MICHAELS, Lorne wasn’t at his seat. So he said, quote, “I want to thank Lorne who went to take a dump now. Perfect.” SETH ROGEN was the first presenter of the night, and he delivered the ultimate roast, saying there shouldn’t even have been a live ceremony in the first place. He said, quote, “They said this was outdoors . . . it’s not! They lied to us. We’re in a hermetically-sealed tent right now. “I would not have come to this. Why is there a roof? It’s more important that we have three chandeliers than that we make sure we don’t kill Eugene Levy tonight. That is what has been decided.” As for the actual awards, “The Crown” won seven last night . . . and a total of 11 when you count the previously-announced wins. “Ted Lasso” won seven (LINK)

ZZ Top has a warning for ya; some people are selling counterfeit merchandise celebrating the memory of the band’s late bassist Dusty Hill, who passed at 72 back in July. The band wrote in a statement Please be aware that neither the band nor Dusty’s family has approved the sale of any merchandise or promotions connected to Dusty. It is sad and unfortunate that many people are trying to ‘cash in’ on Dusty’s untimely death. Please know that no monies generated by these bogus goods are paid to the band or to Dusty’s family.” ZZ Top added that if fans really want to honor Hill’s memory, they’ll stay away from the counterfeit merch.

Po, Dipsy, Tinky-Winky, and Laa-Laa tweeted at Lil Nas X, asking if they can get a feature on his next album. He replied (LINK), quote, “Alright bet! Me and Tinky-Winky on the hook, Dipsy and Po on the verses and we’ll let Laa-Laa do the outro.” In related Lil Nas X news . . . he’s already raised tens of thousands of dollars for different charities . . . and it’s all thanks to his baby registry. One highlight to share – it was a pretty crazy ending in the Baltimore/KC game last night. With only 1:20 left in the game, the Kansas City Chiefs were close to kicking a go-ahead field goal, but fumbled running another play. Here’s the play that sealed the Ravens’ win over KC, 36 to 35.

The San Francisco 49ers didn’t intend to use newly acquired running back Trenton Cannon in any role other than special teams on Sunday. As it turned out, they had no choice but to plug him into the offense. By the end of the game, the Niners had lost their top three running backs to injuries in a span of about five minutes. That came after starter Raheem Mostert was lost to a season-ending left knee injury last week against the Detroit Lions. First, it was starter Elijah Mitchell’s right shoulder, then it was an ankle injury for JaMycal Hasty, and finally it was a concussion for rookie Trey Sermon. After the game, Niners coach Kyle Shanahan said that the hope was Mitchell’s injury was just a stinger and wouldn’t be anything that lingers long term.
Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning has reportedly spoken to two potential buyers of the Denver Broncos regarding a possible management position and a minority stake in the franchise. Manning is “closely watching” the Broncos’ ownership situation. The franchise is widely expected to be up for sale ahead of the 2022 season, though the current ownership situation is currently in flux. Manning played for the Broncos from 2012 to 2015, leading the franchise to a Super Bowl 50 victory over the Carolina Panthers. He told Bob Costas that he would like to be involved in an ownership group but doesn’t have the billions of dollars necessary to be a majority owner.
Longtime NFL running back Frank Gore reportedly turned down offers during the offseason to focus on a potential boxing career. And we’re trying to make a fight happen. If we do that, you’ll see me in the ring.” The Miami native spent the 2020 season with the New York Jets, which marked his third different AFC East team in as many years. He played for his hometown Miami Dolphins in 2018 and the Buffalo Bills in 2019.
