The opening weekend of West Side Story, the first feature musical from Oscar-winning filmmaker Steven Spielberg made just $10.5M in its opening, a disastrous result when measured against the movie’s $100 million production budget. Disney’s Encanto came in at No.2, earning $9.42M, Ghostbusters: Afterlife at No. 3 at $7.1M, House of Gucci made another $4.06M at No.4, and Eternals rounded out the Top 5. This Friday, Spider-Man: No Way Home hits theaters they are predicting it could make $150M opening weekend.
Anheuser-Busch stopped production of Travis Scott’s Cacti Seltzer released in March of this year. AB said, “After careful evaluation, we have decided to stop all production and brand development of CACTI Agave Spiked Seltzer. We believe brand fans will understand and respect this decision.” Anheuser-Busch did not directly mention Astroworld. A source says that the breakup was mutual, and Scott had agreed with AB to end the partnership on November 30th. Also, Travis Scott is no longer headlining at Coachella in 2022. Scott will reportedly receive a fee for his involuntary Coachella removal. The appearance would have been his first since the Astroworld event was there was a massive crowd rush, resulting in at least 10 people dying and hundreds being injured. The concert is currently under investigation, and 100’s of lawsuits have been filed against Live Nation, Travis Scott, and other performers at Astroworld.
MIKE NESMITH of THE MONKEES died Friday of natural causes. He was 78 years old. He had undergone a quadruple bypass in 2018. He’s already written for Linda Ronstadt when he was cast in The Monkees. Originally, the band didn’t write their own songs or play their own instruments . . . they just sang the songs. But it was Nesmith who urged them to become a real band . . . although he ended up going solo in 1969. Nesmith reunited with the Monkees on-and-off over the years. Earlier this year he toured with Dolenz . . . who is now the LAST MONKEE STANDING. The tour ended less than a month ago . . . on November 14th. Here are some things you may not know about Mike Nesmith. Nesmith also basically created MTV. He started making music videos for his own songs, and that turned into a music video show called “Popclips”. It ran for six episodes on Nickelodeon in 1980. The suits decided to turn the concept into a NETWORK, and thus MTV was born. They actually wanted Nesmith to run it, but he wasn’t interested. He won the first-ever Grammy for Video of the Year in 1981 for his musical show, “Elephant Parts”. It included the song “Rio”. He did his last show, with fellow Monkee Micky Dolenz, only three weeks ago, November 15th, at the Greek Theater. And his mother invented something that transformed secretarial life worldwide. Here he is talking about it with David Letterman in 1983 (LINK)
“Interview with the Vampire” author ANNE RICE died Saturday from complications due to a stroke. She was 80 years old. She published nearly 40 novels and sold around 135 million copies. “Vampire” was turned into a 1994 film starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. As was “Queen of the Damned” and “Exit to Eden”. Her book series “Lives of the Mayfair Witches” is being turned into a series at AMC as we speak. Anne was actually born Howard Allen Frances O’Brien. She was named after her father, and her mom thought a male name would help her get ahead in life (LINK)
James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli has already said that Bond wouldn’t be played by a woman, but said Friday that Bond could identify as non-binary. Gender non-binary means that a person doesn’t identify as male or female, preferring to use the pronouns “they” and “them”. When asked Broccoli replied “Who knows?” I mean, I think it’s open. We just have to find the right actor.” Broccoli added that the search for the new James Bond will begin next year.
Pretty romantic Friday between Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West. Kanye was doing a show Friday and he end his song “Runaway” pleaing for Kim Kardashian West…Kimberly…to come back to him. Meanwhile, Kim Friday at the same time was filing documents to be considered “legaly single” AND have WEST taken off her name legally. AND yes she was there… (LINK)

Were 50 Cent and Madonna a thing once? Last month, MADONNA posted some lingerie photos, as she is known to do. And 50 CENT dragged her for it. He said she was, quote, “Trying to do like a virgin at 63. She shot out, if she don’t get her old ass up.” She posted “I guess your new career is getting attention by trying to humiliate others on social media. The least elevated choice you could make as an artist and an adult.” 50 responded by saying, quote, “Ok I’m sorry I did not intend to hurt your feelings. I don’t benefit from this in any way.” Well, Madonna’s not buying it (LINK)
Was Keanu Reeves a little casual about his answer? Earlier this year there was some controversy over the video game “Cyberpunk 2077”. It seems someone modded the game so players could have sex with Johnny Silverhand . . . a character who was patterned after, and looks just like, KEANU REEVES. Well, Keanu and CARRIE ANNE MOSS sat down recently for an interview to hype the new “Matrix” movie, and the reporter brought it up.

The Blues had back to back games this weekend and Enterprise Center. After picking up a 4-1 win against the Canadiens on Saturday, the team needed a little extra hockey to get the result on Sunday. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the result they wanted. With under a minute left in the OT period, the Ducks were given a penalty shot and, they scored. Some more bad news for the Blues, they lost both Jordan Kyrou and Brayden Schenn to injuries. So an already short, banged up squad gets even shorter. Their next game is tomorrow in Dallas against the Stars at 7:30PM.
Speaking of the Stars…St. Louis native Ben Bishop is calling it a career. For the first time in over 400 days, Ben Bishop started a game for the Stars AHL team. And – it wasn’t great. He let in 8 goals on just over 30 shots. And – the very next day the team announced he had degenerative knee disease and his NHL career is pretty much over. No OFFICIAL word from Bishop – but…it looks like it’s over.
We will go over our picks in just as second here…but some other NFL news…
Tom Brady isn’t slowing down in his age-44 season, and he added another record to his collection on Sunday. Brady set the record for the most pass completions in NFL history, earning career completion No. 7,143 with a 20-yard pass to Mike Evans. Brady passed Drew Brees with the second-quarter completion, who isn’t planning to come out of retirement and chase the record anytime soon. Ben Roethlisberger is second among active quarterbacks with 5,347 completions entering Week 14.
Some injuries to be aware of going into next week…Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson exited Sunday’s game against the Browns in the first quarter due to an ankle injury. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen entered his postgame news conference with a walking boot on his lower left leg after the team’s 33-27 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. Allen said he isn’t “quite sure” what the injury is, but that there will be further tests on it Monday. The Bills called it a foot injury. It appears that Aaron Rodgers still owns the Chicago Bears but unfortunately for the Green Bay Packers quarterback, he also still has a problem with his fractured pinky toe. “It feels worse,” Rodgers said after Sunday’s 45-30 win at Lambeau Field. “I don’t know what kind of setback that I had tonight but we’ll look at it tomorrow. Definitely took a step back tonight.”
The Broncos honored former wide receiver Demaryius Thomas on Sunday by lining up with 10 players for their first offensive snap against the Lions. Detroit declined the penalty on Sunday before the Broncos once again lined up for 1st-and-10. Thomas was found dead in his home by Roswell, Ga. police on Thursday evening. His family says they believe his death was caused by a seizure, something he had suffered from “for over a year.” (VIDEOS)
While pressure and high expectations seem to follow the Cowboys everywhere they go, the team brought its own hot seat to Washington D.C. on Sunday—literally. The Cowboys had custom-built, heated benches with their logos on them sent to FedEx Field ahead of Sunday’s game, which had gameday temperatures in the high-40s. It’s all because the Cowboys heard from the Seahawks that the heated benches at FedEx Field often went out during Seattle’s game on Nov. 30. That news prompted the Cowboys to reach out to a Cleveland-based company to have the benches made, since heated benches aren’t necessary at AT&T Stadium.
At just 24 years old, Max Verstappen can add the title of World Champion to his name. The Red Bull driver managed to hold off rival Lewis Hamilton during the season-finale Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, in which Verstappen finished first after a controversial final lap. This very track historically has been a Mercedes power ground, as the team snagged every pole and win from 2014 through ’19 until Verstappen shocked the Formula One world by taking the pole and victory last season. Now, he’s F1 World Champion.
UFC President Dana White was just as surprised as the rest of the fighting world after Julianna Pena defeated Amanda Nunes by a second-round rear-naked choke at UFC 269 on Saturday night, ending Nunes’ 12-fight winning streak. “Julianna is a person who always believed in herself and believed that she could win this fight if she got it. You heard it at the press conference, you heard it in the months leading up to this fight—and she did it. She did it tonight. That’s one of the things that makes this sport so incredible.” As for a rematch, White said that was in Nunes’ hands. “Yes,” he said when asked if she deserved a second shot at Pena. “It’s a big rematch if she wants it.” And then there was two-time Olympic gold medalist Kayla Harrison, who was in the crowd for the fight. White said in his press conferences that there were talks to bring her to UFC, hinting that a matchup with Nunes would have been in the cards, at least before Pena’s upset.
And finally – Mizzou lost to 8th ranked Kansas in basketball over the weekend. It was ugly. 102-65. They next take on Utah on Saturday, SLU picked their first win after back-to-back loses against Boston College. Their next game is Saturday against Auburn. And Illinois lost to 11th ranked Arizona on Saturday. Their next game is Saturday against St. Francis.
