Chaka Khan is backtracking on her comments over Rolling Stone‘s Greatest Singers list and apologizing. The legendary singer took to social media over the weekend and clarified her stance on the list. On the list, Chaka was listed at #29 out of 200 singers but did not top Adele, Beyonce, or Mariah Carey. Barbra Streisand, Cher, and Celine Dion weren’t on the list. In her apology, she also mentioned how she was cornered into answering the question. “Recently, I was asked about a list of the ‘greatest singers of all time,’ and instead of questioning the need for such a list, I was pitted against other artists, and I took the bait,” she shared on Instagram. “As artists, we are unfairly put into ‘boxes’, ‘categories’ or on ‘lists.’ Being an artist or musician is not a competition. It’s a gift for which I am truly grateful.” Chaka went on, saying, “It was not my intention to cause pain or upset anyone. To anyone that felt this way, I sincerely apologize. Thank you for all the love everyone has shown me unconditionally. I have always been about empowering others, and I started a foundation for that very purpose. I will be announcing soon.” “Empowering all artists is most important because we truly are the architects of change…and change begins within the heart,” she concluded. “I love you all, and God bless.” Her comments came while talking to Andrew Goldman for his “The Originals” podcast, where Chaka first learned of the list. When hearing Mariah Carey placed higher at number five, Chaka replied, “That must be payola or some s**t like that.” Adele at 22? Chaka said, “Okay, I quit.” The biggest diss came against Mary J. Blige being ranked at 25. Chaka said, “They are blind as a motherf***ing bat! They need hearing aids…These must be the children of Helen Keller!”
There was a fungus-killing bacteria discovered last month in Germany that was named after Keanu Reeves. Scientists said they named it “keanumycins” because, quote, “The lipopeptides kill so efficiently that we named them after [him] because he, too, is extremely deadly in his roles.” Well during an Ask Me Anything forum on Reddit on Saturday, a user asked Keanu what he thought about it, and he seemed pretty into it. He said, quote, “They should’ve called it John Wick . . . but that’s pretty cool . . . and surreal for me. But thanks, scientist people! Good luck, and thank you for helping us.” (NY Post)
It’s pretty obvious from Chris Rock’s Netflix special over the weekend that he hasn’t forgiven Will Smith. But apparently, Will is trying to make things right. A so-called “source” says, quote, “He’s tried unsuccessfully to make amends in the best way he could with Chris. But beyond that, family is important to him and [Smith] leaned on them.” The source adds that Will feels he has become a better person since then. Quote, “He is better but still remorseful.” (People)
Kanye West made a surprise return to Instagram on Sunday night. His post was a photo taken from Balenciaga’s Winter 2023 fashion show in Paris. Ye wrote, “Write a caption.” West is back on IG but remains suspended from Twitter following a series of posts that were antisemitic. Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain have been on bad terms since suing their former bandmates Ross Valory and Steve Smith, who were still Journey members at the time. After the pair left the group, Schon and Cain turned on each other. The musicians have been fighting over numerous things, including Cain’s decision to perform at Mar-a-Lago and Schon having his access to the band’s corporate American Express account barred. Now, a new report from Billboard claims that the pair went as far as hiring off-duty police officers to guard their dressing rooms while on tour last year. Sources told the publication that Schon hired the authorities first because he was convinced “people were out to get him”.
When Journey were performing in Florida, the sources claim Schon and his wife sent an assistant into Cain’s dressing room, who was then caught by Cain. The keyboardist then hired his own off-duty police to guard his dressing room. It was also claimed that the bandmates spent the tour arguing about whose guard would outrank the other’s if there was a dispute. “That’s just the level of pettiness and control and conspiracy they came to believe in,” a source is quoted as saying.
In less fractious Journey news, in January, former band member Steve Perry dropped his lawsuit against his old bandmates over the trademarks to 20 of the group’s biggest songs. He had filed a lawsuit in September 2022 requesting that Freedom JN LLC, the company that holds the band’s trademarks and is headed up by Cain and Schon, be prevented from using the trademarks on any official apparel or merchandise.
Pink’s aerial stunts aren’t going anywhere. She says they’re fun to do even though they’re really hard and physical. She adds that they also keep her engaged and HUMBLE. She said she wanted to be an Olympic gymnast before she became a singer. And once she saw Cher’s Farewell Tour, which ran from 2002 to 2005, she felt inspired to add acrobatics to her shows. Pink said, quote, “I’m very unique in the fact that I get to think about, ‘Is there something I should be hanging from when I’m singing this? Maybe this requires something being built.’ I don’t necessarily craft a song thinking about that . . . “But once it’s there, I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s going to be so much fun’ . . . Why would I stay on the ground if I don’t have to? It makes me so happy. My cheeks hurt from smiling sometimes at shows.” (People)

Most people hate trying to follow subtitles on TV, especially when they disappear before you can finish them? Well, that’s often because the shows are just TOO WORDY.
WordFinderX determined TV’s wordiest show. Here are the Top 10, along with their words per minute:

- “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”: 174.6

- “Modern Family”: 166.2
- “Central Park”: 163.9
- “Suits”: 161
- “Bob’s Burgers”: 160.6
- “South Park”: 160

Oscar voters don’t always get it right. To be frank, some pretty bad movies have won Best Picture. And these are the 10 worst, according to the AUDIENCE scores on RottenTomatoes.com:
- “The Broadway Melody”, 1929. 20%
- “Cimarron”, 1931. 25%
- “Cavalcade”, 1933. 26%
- “The Great Ziegfeld”, 1936. 50%
- “The Greatest Show on Earth”, 1952. 53%
- “Around the World in 80 Days”, 1956. 57%
- “Tom Jones”, 1963. 58%
- (tie) “Titanic”, 1997. 69%
- (tie) “Rocky”, 1976. 69%
- “The Shape of Water”, 2017. 72%.
I have to admit, I’m shocked to see “Rocky” with such a low audience score. Especially given its 91% critics’ score.
I was also surprised that “Crash” didn’t make the list, because it’s pretty universally considered one of the least-deserving Best Picture winners. But it does have an 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, so it was too “good” to make the Top 10. Still, you’ll find very few people who believe it should have beaten “Brokeback Mountain” in 2006.
