We hit a weird milestone this week, but a good one: We’ve now had more vaccinations in the U.S. than COVID-19 cases. On Monday, official stats showed 26.5 million Americans had gotten at least one dose of the vaccine. And 26.3 million had tested positive since the pandemic first started.

HAL HOLBROOK passed away on January 23rd, according to his personal assistant. He was 95 years old. He won five Emmys, and earned an Oscar nomination at the age of 82, for the movie “Into the Wild”. He also played the informant “Deep Throat” in the Watergate movie, “All the President’s Men”. His other credits included the Dirty Harry movie “Magnum Force”, “Wall Street”, “The Star Chamber”, “The Great White Hope”, “The Fog”, “Creepshow”, “The Firm”, and Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln”. Holbrook spent DECADES playing Mark Twain in a one-man show. He even won a Tony for doing it on Broadway in 1966. He finally retired the show in 2017. Holbrook was married three times. His last wife was “Designing Women” star DIXIE CARTER. She died of cancer in 2010.
Is the career of country singer MORGAN WALLEN dying? Recall he was booted from a scheduled performance on SNL for blatantly breaking covid protocal. They forgave him and he apologized then went on and did SNL. He decided to get better too. So he decided to go out and get drunk then come home super loud with his buddies and also drop N bombs. He and some friends had just returned from partying and they were so loud the neighbors noticed, and filmed it. There are three videos. One is a doorbell cam from across the street and that’s mostly shouting and honking horns. The second clip is when the neighbor started recording it, and that’s the one that Morgan may never live down. He’s kind of stumbling toward his house and telling someone to watch over one of their friends, and then he lets loose with two disgusting sentences. He says, quote, “Take care of this [P-word]-ass [M-effer]. Then he adds, “Take care of this [P-word]-ass [N-word].” Then he goes inside. The third video is from Monday morning when he leaves his house with a girl. His statement reads… “I’m embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language. I sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better.”
An R. Kelly associate pleaded guilty Tuesday to trying to buy some silence in R Kellys case. “Me and another person offered Jane Doe money for her to not go forward with her complaint or testimony against Robert Kelly,” Richard Arline Jr., 31, admitted during a virtual hearing in Brooklyn federal court. “I knew what I did was wrong.” In 2020, after Kelly was hit with a racketeering and sex trafficking indictment in Brooklyn, someone texted the accuser: “Rob is trying to get his cousin rich in contact with you because he wants to pay you for silence.” During a May 26, 2020, phone call, Rich offered the woman $500,000 and said Kelly authorized the payment. Unbeknownst to him, the feds were listening in on the call. He faces up to 15 years in prison when he’s sentenced on the bribery conviction. He was charged last year along with 2 others. Oh yea and Kelly still faces a separate indictment in Chicago, charging him with producing child pornography and destroying evidence.
Jenna Bitton, we know her as porn star Jenna Jameson, had a brief relationship with Marilyn Manson in the late 90’s. She is now 46 and says “We didn’t go out long because I cut it off after he would nonchalantly say he fantasized about burning me alive. Once he started speaking to me violently, I was like… ‘Goodbye.’ Also the bruises from him biting me weren’t fun.” In addition to being dropped by his record label for the allegations against him made by actress Evan Rachel Wood and other women, Manson’s upcoming features in Starz’ American Gods and AMC’s Creepshow aren’t happening. Manson has also been dropped by Creative Artists Agency, one of the most powerful talent agencies in the business. He is basically saying it was consensual.
“Black Panther” director RYAN COOGLER is doing a show for Disney+ about Wakanda. There’s no word yet on the details, but it’s part of a new, five-year deal that’ll also see him working on other Marvel shows.
The reboot has happened to so many shows lately. This classic, though they have talked about it many times has never moved forward enough for intrigue. Color me intrigued. Kelsey Grammer himself has tried in the past but he was super picky. So the creative answer was??? A guy who started a Frasier parody account years ago. It’s still in the early talks, but Grammer and team are reportedly pitching a 10-episode return to Paramount+, the studio’s forthcoming streamer. Theres no official go yet BUT both Grammer and David Hyde Pierce are on other shows(Grammer to an ABC comedy co-starring Alec Baldwin and Pierce to the HBO series Julia. So the head creative team will include Joe Cristalli, the latter who runs the much-liked parody account @FrasierContempo. Cristalli, whose previous credits include a staff writer gig on the bygone Colin Hanks show Life in Pieces.
The 78th Annual Golden Globe Awards is going bicoastal with Hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler for the first time since 2015. Fey will broadcast live from The Rainbow Room (at the top of Rockefeller Center) in New York City, while Poehler will host from the Globes’ usual spot inside the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. Still don’t know presenters and nominees will be invited to participate in person, by remote means or via a mixture of both (which is what the Primetime Emmys did last September). Either way I cannot wait to NOT watch it live on Sunday, Feb.28, Nominations are out today.

Green Day tweeted that they’re “fired up to finally be back on stage” for this Saturday’s 10th Annual NFL Honors. This will be the first performance since the pandemic hit and then forced Green Day to cancel their Hella Mega stadium tour. Comedian Steve Harvey, who is a huge fan of the Dookie record, will also appear at the NFL Honors when it airs this Saturday at on CBS. The Hella Mega Tour, which also features Fall Out Boy and Weezer, has also been rescheduled for 2021, kicking off in Seattle July 14th – if all goes well.

LUCA YUPANQUI has a new album coming out on April 2nd. You say you’ve never heard of Luca Yupanqui? Well, I’m not surprised, since she WASN’T EVEN BORN when she recorded it. The album is called “Sounds of the Unborn”, and Luca’s parents recorded it by using “biosonic MIDI technology” that translated her in utero movements into sound. After recording for five hours, Luca’s parents, quote, “edited and mixed the results of the sessions, respecting the sounds as they were produced, trying to intervene as little as possible, allowing Luca’s message to exist in its raw form.” Luca is an infant now, and she sat in on those mixing sessions. And supposedly, her reaction to the sounds made it clear that she knew what she was hearing, because, quote, “she had already lived it.” (Here’s a clip from a song called V4.3 pt. 2.)

Super Bowl 55 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay may technically be a home game for the Buccaneers, but the NFL isn’t treating it as such. The NFL will not allow the Bucs to fire off their cannons after scoring a touchdown, the team’s traditional celebration. The NFL will permit the team to fire them off during the pregame player introductions, however. It makes sense. The Super Bowl is generally played at a neutral location, with this season being the first time in league history that a host city’s team is playing in the big game. Allowing the Buccaneers to continue with their usual game day traditions would eat away at the already thin veneer of this being played at a neutral site.
The Hawks are investigated an incident on Monday night in which four fans were ejected after exchanging words with LeBron James. Referees briefly stopped the Lakers’ win at State Farm Arena in the fourth quarter after James appeared to argue with fans sitting courtside. One of the ejected fans, Juliana Carlos explained her side of the story late Monday night and alleges James cursed at her and her husband. James acknowledged the back-and-forth with Carlos and other fans postgame. He said he was not bothered by the exchange and he didn’t believe the fans should have been ejected. “I’m happy fans are back in the building,” James told the media. “I miss that interaction, I need that interaction. We as players need that interaction. There was a back-and-forth between two grown men, and we said our piece. …I didn’t think they should have been kicked out.” The four-time Finals MVP scored Los Angeles’ final nine points in a 107-99 win, finishing the night with 21 points on 5-12 from the field.
The Los Angeles Angels suspended pitching coach Mickey Callaway on Tuesday morning, in the wake of accounts of Callaway sending inappropriate photographs and unsolicited messages to at least five women working in sports media over a five-year span. The team announced Callaway’s suspension on Tuesday after being made aware of the accounts late on Monday. The Angels said they will work closely with MLB to conduct a full investigation into Callaway’s conduct. Callaway has denied any wrongdoing, which protects him from being fired without an investigation. The Angels hired Callaway in October 2019. He served as the Mets’ manager from October 2017 until 2019. He was also the Cleveland pitching coach for five seasons. The women who wished to remain anonymous, worked in sports media at the time of their interactions with Callaway. They detail interactions in which they said Callaway sent lewd messages, inappropriately commented on their appearance, and in one instance “thrust his crotch near the face of a reporter as she interviewed him.” According to one source interviewed for the story, Callaway’s mistreatment of women was “the worst-kept secret in sports.”
On Tuesday, EA Sports announced the return of their college football video game. The simple announcement was tweeted by EA saying, “For those who never stopped believing…College football is coming back.” It was formerly called NCAA Football. EA last produced the game in 2013. ESPN points out that EA has a license to use “FBS schools, traditions, uniforms and playbooks.” Over 100 schools are already locked in. EA will move forward without names, images, and likenesses of actual players. The NCAA prohibits players from selling rights while in school. There is no official date for the return of the game.
The NBA reportedly has informed teams that on Friday it will begin implementing its “program of enhanced enforcement of face mask rules during games and will impose penalties on player or staff members who fail to comply.” The report comes after Monday’s game between the Pistons and Nuggets was postponed because of contact tracing within the Pistons organization. It was the 23rd game the NBA has postponed this season. The NBA will require players to wear masks “in all instances where required.” That includes when players are sitting on the bench. Players have been allowed to sit in a “cooldown” area away from the bench after they exit games but are technically required to return to the bench and don masks once that cooldown period concludes. Other efforts to combat the spread of COVID-19 among players, coaches and staff have included “preventing players from having guests in their hotel rooms on the road, as well as limiting interactions between them on the court before and after games.”
The exhibition boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and YouTube star Logan Paul has been put on the backburner. The fight, which was scheduled for Feb. 20, has been postponed. The online platform Fanmio was set to host the event, which would be streamed on pay-per-view. No reason for the postponement was made available. Mayweather, who turns 44 later this month, is 50-0 in his professional boxing career. His last official bout was in “The Money Fight” vs. former UFC two-division champion Conor McGregor in August 2017. After that, he took part in a December 2018 exhibition in Japan. Paul, 25, has twice fought fellow YouTube creator “KSI,” one bout being an official fight. His younger brother, Jake Paul, recently booked his third professional boxing match against retired former MMAer Ben Askren.
