Nominees for the 94th Academy Awards were announced yesterday, and “The Power of the Dog” got the most with 12 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress for Kirsten Dunst, and Best Supporting actor for her real-life husband Jesse Plemons. “Dune” followed with 10, including Best Picture and some technical awards. Beyoncé for the song “Be Alive” from the movie “King Richard”. Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell are first-timers for the theme to the Bond flick “No Time to Die”. Lin-Manuel Miranda is up for Best Original song for “Dos Oruguitas” from the animated film “Encanto”, and if he wins, he’ll have the EGOT.

This year’s SNUBS included Lady Gaga and pretty much everyone involved in “House of Gucci”. . . which only got one nomination for Makeup and Hairstyling.

The Aretha Franklin movie “Respect” got shut out, even though some people expected to see Jennifer Hudson’s name in the mix.

Steven Spielberg didn’t get snubbed.  He’s up for Best Director for “West Side Story”, making him the first director to be nominated across SIX DECADES.  He’s been nominated eight times in all, and won twice.

The Oscars will air on Sunday, March 27th on ABC.  There WILL be a host this year, but he, she, or THEY haven’t been announced yet.

Nelly is apologizing for a video of him receiving oral sex which, somehow, got posted on his social media — and he says the old clip was never meant to see the light of day. The “Hot In Herre” rapper started trending Tuesday on Twitter after his IG story briefly included an uncensored video of a woman performing oral sex. The video was quickly deleted, but not before folks were able to capture screen recordings and repost. Nelly tells TMZ … “I sincerely apologize to the young lady and her family, this is unwanted publicity for her/them. This was an old video that was private and never meant to go public.” As for how it ended up getting on his Instagram account? Well, it sounds like Nelly may have been hacked, because his team tells us they’re investigating a breach and are concerned more of Nelly’s private content may also end up online … including financial information, personal documents and passwords.

D.A.R.E. is coming after the HBO hit Euphoria. In a statement, the drug education organization said the show glorifies “drug use, addiction, anonymous sex [and] violence.” Zendaya stars in the show and is also one of the executive producers. She says the feeling behind Euphoria is to hopefully help people feel a little bit less alone in their experience and their pain, and maybe feel like they’re not the only one going through or dealing with what they’re dealing with.  She also said that her character Rue is an example of hope to overcome addictions.

WENDY WILLIAMS is still battling various ailments, and a revolving door of celebrities have been hosting “The Wendy Williams Show” in her absence.  But the producers are looking for a more permanent solution. Sources say that SHERRI SHEPHERD is about to be named the permanent guest host.  And if Wendy gets better, there’s an open door for her to return.  But if she can’t come back by September, they’ll change the name of the show and Sherri stays for good. Wendy stepped away last year after suffering complications from Graves’ disease and a thyroid condition, following a battle with COVID-19.

A little stroll down Armie Hammer memory lane…Last year, a woman came forward claiming Armie was incredibly abusive to her during their FOUR-YEAR extramarital affair. In one incident in 2017, she claimed that he violently raped her for FOUR HOURS, slamming her head into the wall and whipping her feet to the point that it was painful for her to walk afterward. Another woman claimed that during HER affair with Armie, he often used knives . . . and even carved the letter “A” in her skin near her groin. Other women he allegedly had affairs with said he was into violence and rape fantasies . . . and even expressed an interest in trying CANNIBALISM. Armie said all these encounters were consensual . . . and he went to rehab to seek treatment for drug, alcohol, and sexual issues.  And I guess rehab works because ARMIE HAMMER’s estranged wife Elizabeth Chambers is reportedly giving him another chance.  Or at least she’s considering it. A source says, quote, “Elizabeth’s priority has always been her children and their well-being.  The past year hasn’t been easy, but she and Armie have always had love for each other. “They’re slowly figuring things out as a couple, but being parents to their two kids will always come first.”

The Gumby franchise has been acquired by FOX Entertainment, with the company planning to launch a new animated series, live-action original content, and more to reimagine Gumby. Fox announced the deal on Tuesday, in partnership with the estate of Joseph Clokey, son of Gumby creator Art Clokey.  The deal covers Gumby and all of his friends, including his horse Pokey. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Art Clokey died in 2010 at 88, and his son died in 2018 at 56. The company is also plotting consumer products and NFTs with Gumby and friends.

The estate of former members of The Jimi Hendrix Experience want to get paid. The heirs of Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell The Jimi Hendrix Experience owes them payment for over 3 billion in streams, which generates millions of dollars a year, which the family feels entitled to and wants Sony Music to cut the check. The report stated that Hendrix’s representatives said they signed away their rights to the music in the mid-’70s after Jimi died.

On Tuesday, Disney debuted the new trailer for the Pixar animated film Lightyear, a space adventure about the character Buzz Lightyear, who inspired the toy in the Toy Story series. The film introduces the “real-life” (or human) space ranger that inspired the toy line seen in the Pixar franchise. The animated sci-fi feature stars Chris Evans as the voice of Buzz. In the trailer, Buzz heads out on an intergalactic space adventure, accompanied by a talking robot cat named Sox, and takes on the evil Emperor Zurg. Lightyear opens in theatres on June 17, 2022.

On Monday, Nick Cannon revealed that he received a vending machine full of Trojan Magnum condoms. Kevin Hart admitted on Instagram that he was the one who sent the gag gift. Kevin wrote, “I see u got my gift @nickcannon ….GOTCHA B**CH!!!!!! Now u don’t have an excuse because the condoms are free #PrankWars.” Hart is referring to Cannon’s ability to make babies. His eighth child is on the way.  The two continue to go back and forth, pranking each other. Last year, Cannon gave Hart a llama for his birthday. Hart responded by putting Cannon’s phone number on billboards across the country.

The YouTuber MRBEAST just came out with his own chocolate bar brand and to celebrate, he’s doing a sweepstakes that’s very “Willy Wonka”-inspired. MrBeast said, quote, “10 random bars will have a mystery ticket in them and I will fly those 10 people out to compete for a chocolate factory in a video!” But wait there’s more . . . each bar contains a QR code that can be redeemed to win other prizes like a Tesla . . . Sea-Doo jet skis . . . headphones . . . a gaming computer . . . and even cash. The candy bars come in three flavors:  original chocolate, almond chocolate, and quinoa crunch.  They are sold online in packs of 10 for $30 and an 18-pack variety for $50.  Or in-store at Wal-Mart or using the GoPuff delivery service. They are made with organic ingredients and without any artificial flavors because, quote, “Boomer chocolate ingredient lists are lowkey trash.”

A U.K. zoo has hired a MARVIN GAYE impersonator to perform hits like “Let’s Get It On” to get their MONKEYS in the mood.  He’s even performing INSIDE the enclosure.

The park director said, quote, “We thought it could be a creative way to encourage our females to show a little affection to males that might not have been so lucky in love.” Well, I guess the zoo will find out in the summertime if Marvin’s music helped the cause.  A monkey’s pregnancy length varies by species, but is typically four-and-a-half to six months long.

I think it’s kind of exciting to talk about upcoming professional soccer matches being scheduled here in St. Louis.  St. Louis’ MLS NEXT Pro team released the 2022 preseason schedule. The first match was yesterday. STL CITY 2 was in Tampa and they lost 2-0 to Philadelphia Unions 2.  They take on FC Cincinnati on Friday. The team will play their first home preseason match against Memphis 901 at Creve Coeur Soccer Complex on Saturday, Feb. 19. All preseason local games will be free to the public.

Its Super Bowl week so you get a bunch of those questions to upcoming free-agents or guys on the verge of retiring like, “If you could pick your dream spot, where would it be?”  Well – Rob Gronkowski has been in the NFL for 11 seasons and in each of those 11 seasons, Tom Brady was his quarterback. With Brady now retired, there’s been a lot of speculation about whether Gronk will join him.  During a question-and-answer session on Tuesday, Gronk was asked what quarterback he would like to play with next season and he didn’t hesitate at all when he gave his answer.  Gronk’s answer? It’s Joe Burrow, man. I watched him in college. I just love the way he presents himself out on the football field. In the pocket he’s just so calm and he just slings it out on the field.” The Bengals have a good tight end right now, but he’s going to be a free agent, which means the team might be in the market for someone to replace him.

Speaking of NFLers on new teams, before he signed with the Rams in November, Odell Beckham Jr had almost signed with two other teams.  And now we are hear which teams those were. He said he was VERY close to signing with the Saints.   He said if Jameis Winston was healthy, he might have done it.  The other team was the New England Patriots.  He said that Bill Belichick called him personally.  He said if it was 3 years ago and Tom Brady was on the team, he would have done it instantly.

Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer will not be criminally charged by Los Angeles prosecutors. The ruling concludes a five-month review of the case, which stems from sexual assault allegations made against Bauer by a San Diego woman who sought a restraining order against him in June. The District Attorney’s Office considered and rejected charges of assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury and sodomy of an unconscious person during the first sexual encounter between Bauer and the woman on April 22, and domestic violence during the second sexual encounter on May 16.  Bauer, who spent the final three months of the 2021 regular season on administrative leave, still faces a chance for discipline from Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred, who has the ability to hand out suspensions under the domestic violence policy that was previously agreed to jointly with the MLB Players Association.

Next weekend it’s the NBA All-Star weekend and on Saturday it’s the NBA Skills challenge. We now know who will be in the 3 Point contest.  I want to see how many of these players you know/have heard of.  Desmond Bane, Luke Kennard, Zach Lavine, CJ McCollum, Patty Mills, Karl-Anthony Towns, Fred VanVleet, and Trae Young.   As far as the dunk competition is concerned.  The participants there are Obi Toppin, Jalen Green, Cole Anthony, and Juan Toscano-Anderson.

The United States finally won its first GOLD medal at the Winter Olympics early this morning.  36-year-old Lindsey Jacobellis won it in snowboard cross.  It’s her fifth Olympics and FIRST gold.  She also won a silver way back in 2006.  She’s the first American to win gold this year.  We went the first five days without one. We also added a few more medals yesterday:  Cross-country skier Jessie Diggins took bronze in the women’s sprint, which was a big deal.  It’s the first individual medal we’ve ever won in women’s cross-country skiing.  Freestyle skier Colby Stevenson also picked up a silver medal in men’s big air. And Mikaela Shiffrin lost out on her best chance at a medal when she missed a gate in the women’s slalom.  She crashed out in the giant slalom a few days ago too. Last we checked, the U.S. was sitting on seven medals, including a gold, five silvers and a bronze.  So we’re climbing the standings in total medals.  Here’s the latest leaderboard we saw.

  1.  Russia:  10. . . 2 gold, 3 silver, 5 bronze.
  2. Norway:  9. . . 4 gold, 1 silver, 4 bronze.
  3. Austria:  8. . . 2 gold, 4 silver, 2 bronze.
  4. Sweden:  7. . . 4 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze.
  5. The Netherlands:  7. . . 3 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze.

Olympic history is filled with examples of athletes trying to get an edge, but few could have predicted so much controversy at the 2022 Winter Olympics because of baggy clothing. Five athletes were disqualified for the ski jumping mixed team competition in Beijing because of loose-fitting clothing. Not using the correct apparel could give competitors a significant advantage in ski jumping, especially if it catches the wind. Someone using a wingsuit would probably set world records if allowed. The latest disqualifications were still unprecedented at this level, especially after the same outfits were already cleared a day earlier.

College basketball likely will have a new No. 1 team next week. In front of a record crowd at Bud Walton Arena on Tuesday night in Fayetteville, host Arkansas beat No. 1 Auburn 80-76 in overtime, snapping the Tigers’ 19-game winning streak. It was top-ranked Auburn’s first loss since a double-overtime defeat to UConn on Nov. 24.

Mizzou lost to Vanderbilt last night.  Their record is now 9-14 and they take on Mississippi on Saturday.  SLU rolled through La Salle last night and they are now 17-6.  They take on St Bonaventure on Friday night.  And 13th ranked Illinois couldn’t upset 3rd ranked Purdue.  The Fighting Illini are now 17-6 and take on Northwestern on Sunday.
