Well, we now know who the winner between the Blues and Wild’s playoff series will meet in Round 2. The Nashville Predators completed the 4 game sweep of the Chicago Blackhawks last night with a 4-1 win in Nashville. Now, they wait to see who wins the series between St. Louis & Minnesota. That series picks up tomorrow in Minnesota with the Blues up 3-1. Puck drop is at 2PM.
Another team advanced yesterday as the Penguins got a 5-2 win over the Blue Jackets. Also, two more overtime games last night. First, the Rangers got a win and now lead their series 3-2 over the Canadiens, and then the Oilers got the game winner to take a 3-2 series lead over the Sharks in the late game. Here is how both of those goals sounded. Today, only two games on the schedule…the Capitals take on the Maple Leafs with their series tied at 2 games apiece…and the Bruins try to avoid elimination against the Senators.
Homeruns from both Matt Carpenter and Jed Gyorko weren’t enough as the Cards lost to the Brewers 7-5 in Milwaukee last night. Carlos Martinez is yet to get a win yet this year and allowed 5 runs in 5 innings. Adam Wainwright gets the start tonight as the two teams plays again at Miller Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10PM.
Starting in the seventh inning Sunday against the Cubs and continuing on through the following day’s game against the Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Josh Harrison came to the plate four times. And in each of those instances he was hit by a pitch, marking the first time since at least 1974 that a player has been hit by a pitch in four consecutive at-bats. Weirder still, Harrison was plunked in basically the same place—in the left leg, below the knee—each and every time.
Officials said yesterday that Aaron Hernandez left three notes next to a Bible before hanging himself with his bedsheet. Investigators wouldn't say what the notes said, but stated they were satisfied that the 27-year-old former NFL star's death WAS a suicide. Hernandez's family will donate his brain to sports concussion researchers.
Remember a few weeks ago we talked about how a female college hockey player learned that the school she committed to had cancelled their women’s hockey program during a school tour? Well, she wasn’t the only one to get some harsh news that day. The entire University of North Dakota women’s hockey team was not told by their coach, or by a member of the administration , they were told by….Twitter. The captain of the team said she learned about the cancellation of the program from random people tweeting her saying they were sorry that the program had been cut. The school says they planned on telling the team in the evening but the news spread so fast they couldn’t do it in time. The swimming and diving teams at the school were also cut.
So, a few weeks back we talked about the suspected terror attack on Germany soccer team Dortmund’s team bus. There were two bombs that went off and a third found that didn’t go off that caused a ton of damage and actually injured one player. EVERYONE assumed it was a terrorist attack on the team. Well, yesterday a 28 year old German man was arrested for the crime. He said that he did it in hopes that the team stock would drop massively after the attack, and that he would clean up financially over it. He was charged with attempted murder, causing an explosion, and aggravated battery. He more than likely will spend the rest of his life in prison.
Speaking of soccer, the STL FC is back at Toyota Stadium this weekend. They play Charlotte Independence at 7:30PM at Soccer Park. You can listen to the game on 550AM if you can’t make it.
