Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is ending the legal fight over his six-game suspension for alleged domestic violence. However, Elliott’s agents said yesterday (November 15th) that his decision was, quote, “in no way an admission of wrongdoing.” Elliott already missed one game last weekend, and has five games remaining to sit out. Elliott was suspended by Commissioner Roger Goodell in August after the NFL concluded following an investigation that Elliott had several physical confrontations in 2016 with his girlfriend at the time, Tiffany Thompson. Ohio prosecutors didn’t pursue the case, citing conflicting evidence, and Elliott denied the allegations under oath.
The Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals discussed “trade concepts” yesterday for Giancarlo Stanton at the GM Meetings in Orlando. Miami has said that it wants to trade the slugger this offseason. Stanton still has 11 years, $295 million remaining on his contract, but he can opt out after the 2020 season. The average annual value of his contract is $25 million. That’s the figure that counts toward the actual payroll each year. Stanton led the majors with 59 home runs and 132 RBIs during 2017 while the Red Sox ranked last in the American League with 168 home runs. As far as the reports of Stanton not wanting to come to STL or Boston…that’s coming from a baseball scout and not from the Marlins or Stanton. However – no one has said that report is FALSE either. So…that’s saying something.
UCLA basketball coach Steve Alford said yesterday that freshmen players LiAngelo Ball, Jalen Hill and Cody Riley are being suspended indefinitely for shoplifting at three expensive stores in China while the team was there to play a game against Georgia Tech. ((ADUIO)) Ball, Hill and Riley also thanked President Trump for intervening on their behalf with China’s president while Trump was in Asia before returning this week. Earlier yesterday, Trump had tweeted: “Do you think the three UCLA Basketball Players will say thank you President Trump? They were headed for 10 years in jail!
