Tough loss for the Blues last night at Scottrade Center. The Ducks went up 3-0 by the middle of the 2nd period after two power play goals in the 2nd and the Blues just couldn’t come back. Kyle Brodziak tried his best scoring two goals in the third, but again, too little too late. The Blues take on the Kings tomorrow night for their annual Hockey Fights Cancer celebration. Puck drops at 7PM.
Yesterday…the MLS announced it’s four finalists for the 2 remaining expansion spots. And…after a ton of promotion, marketing, and a strong final push to get a team here in STL even after the failed stadium proposal….the finalists are….Sacramento, Cincinnati, Nashville….and Detroit. Yup, STL is OUT as far as a 2020 MLS team is concerned. The MLS made it very clear that 2 of those 4 cities will be up for the next expansion teams, however, two MORE teams will be awarded to other cities at a later date (that could be 2021 or 2091)…and those cities are Charlotte, Indy, Phoenix, Raleigh/Durham, San Antonion, San Diego, Tampa, and St. Louis!
Tonight on Thursday Night Football it’s the Cowboys and the Redskins in Dallas. The 4-5 Redskins look to continue their win streak after beating the Giants last week and the Cowboys look to rebound after getting destroyed by the Chargers on Thanksgiving. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30PM.
ESPN is reporting that the NFL and a group of players reached an agreement late last to partner on a plan to address social justice issues that are important to African-American communities. Under the agreement, the NFL will commit $89 million over seven years to national and local projects dealing with criminal justice reform, law enforcement-community relations and education. Players on each team will be matching contributions for the projects on the local level. Malcolm Jenkins and Anquan Boldin led about 40 players in negotiating with the NFL about the controversial protests during the national anthem against racial injustice and police brutality. The agreement doesn’t include language calling for players who’ve continued the protests to stop, but the NFL hopes their commitment in this agreement will end them.
Former NFL coach and current ESPN analyst Herm Edwards is in line to become Arizona State’s next football coach, pending approval of the university president. The AP, citing a person with direct knowledge of the plan, reported Wednesday night that Edwards’ deal and an official announcement from Arizona State are still being finalized. We may hear something as early as this morning.
