#SPORTS! For the first time since 1958 …the motherland….Italy…will miss the World Cup. #MLB Rookies of the Year are…. AND MORE

The Carolina Panthers destroyed the Miami Dolphins 45-21 in Monday Night Football last night at home in Charlotte. Panthers quarterback Cam Newton threw for 254 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another 95 as his team got a franchise-record 548 yards. Dolphins quarterback Jay Cutler had 213 yards passing with two touchdowns.

The Blues lost to the Calgary Flames last night 7-4 as a wild 3rd period gave Calgary the win.  Tied up at 4 with 5 minutes to go in the game, the Flames managed to put up 3 goals and run away with things to pick up the 7-4 win.  Vladimir Tarasenko had a pair of goals and Jaden Schwartz, and Alexander Steen also scored in the loss.  Next up for the Blues is a game against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday.

Former Anaheim Duck and St. Louis Blue Paul Kariya was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame last night.  He joined Dave Andreychuck, Mark Recchi, and Teemu Selanne also made it in.  Kariya will actually be in the building at the Blues vs. Ducks home game at Scottrade on November 29th to drop the puck.

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge and Los Angeles Dodgers first-baseman Cody Bellinger were announced yesterday  as unanimous winners of Major League Baseball’s Rookie of the Year award, Judge in the American League and Bellinger in the National League. Judge led the AL with 52 home runs, the most ever by a rookie, and Bellinger hit 39 homers for the NL’s rookie record. This was the first time both Rookie of the Year awards were given in unanimous votes from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America since 1997, when Nomar Garciaparra of the Boston Red Sox and Scott Rolen of the Philadelphia Phillies won.

One other real quick MLB note….after 20 years in the league, Carlos Beltran has announced his retirement.  Beltran has played on 8 different MLB teams but picked up his first World Series ring with the Houston Astros this year.  Beltran was a 9 times all star, 3x gold glove winner, and won the AL rookie of the year back in 1998. He played with the Cardinals during the 2012-2013 season.

The Mizzou Tigers basketball team beat Wagner 99-55 last night.  Arguably the best college player in the game Michael Porter Jr. sat out with a leg injury but his brother Jontay and the rest of the squad, including big nights from Kassius Robertson and Jeremiah Tilmon stepped things up and got the win.

For the first time since 1958 …the motherland….Italy…will miss the World Cup.  After a 0-0 draw with Sweden yesterday, that sealed their fate.  It’s all over.   This is only the second time in the HISTORY of the World Cup that Italy will miss the tournament.
