#SPORTS! ESPYs, Upsets at Wimbleon, Serena Williams Tried to Deposit $1 Million in Bank Drive Thru AND MORE!

Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic were both knocked out in the quarterfinals at Wimbledon yesterday in surprise upsets. Murray, the top seed at the tournament and the defending champion, fell to 24th-seeded American Sam Querrey. Second-seeded Djokovic’s Wimbledon also came to an end when he dropped out of his quarterfinal match because of an elbow injury. Third-seeded Roger Federer and Number 7 Marin Cilic won their quarterfinals matches to advance to the semis.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor threw verbal punches at a press conference streamed live on Wednesday from Toronto, in advance of the fight on August 26.  Despite 40-year-old Mayweather’s undefeated run and legendary status, 28-year-old McGregor fired on him pretty damn hard.  He also used the platform as an opportunity to mock Mayweather’s money problems. And of course, he made fun of the fact that Mayweather had a problem reading a few years back… The crowd also appeared to favor McGregor as they chanted, “Pay your taxes! Pay your taxes!” at Mayweather.  Meanwhile, Mayweather showed off a backpack full of thousands of dollars in cash and draped an Irish flag over his shoulders to insult McGregor. Mayweather  got some jabs in too. He said QUOTE “We’re not talking about being at the top one year, two years, three years, four years. Twenty-one years!”

SERENA WILLIAMS sat down for a new interview where she talks about how making a ton of money has never really mattered to her.  She only cares about winning.  And this actually makes us believe it . . .The first time she ever got a check for more than $1 MILLION . . . she tried to deposit it at her bank’s DRIVE-THRU.   It’s not clear if she tried to jam the check in an ATM.  But this would’ve been years ago, so it was probably one of those vacuum tube things.  She says the check was so big, they wouldn’t let her do it.  She had to park and go inside.

The USMNT’s Gold Cup match Wednesday night looked easy on paper, even with mostly C  players getting starts. But the team’s group stage battle against Martinique quickly went from boring to absolutely ridiculous, and the US BARELY got a 3-2 win.  A 0-0 tie at half on a saw a second half with a wild finish of goals and barely-missed chances from both sides. The US went up 1-0 and then Martinique retaliated with two goals in 10 minutes. Less than a minute later, the US tied things up.  The U.S. haven’t quite clinched advancement into the knockout round, but it should be all good.  Their final group-stage game comes Sunday against the currently winless Nicaragua.
