I don’t know if there’s a ROBIN WILLIAMS movie in the works, but id sign up an actor named JAMIE COSTA right now. Jamie looks like a young Robin Williams, and he does a SPOT-ON impression. And he just released a video called “Robin Test Footage Scene” that makes a huge case for him. In the clip, he’s playing a “Mork and Mindy”-era Robin, getting his makeup done for the show, when an actress playing PAM DAWBER comes in to tell him that JOHN BELUSHI just died. Remember Williams was with Belushi the night he died. It’s dramatic. Not much comedy, and it shows that Jamie is more than just an impressionist.

So last night the NHL season kicked off. The Penguins and Lightning had the first game and Pittsburgh came out swinging. They picked up a 6-2 win over Tampa. Over in the the late game, the Golden Knights welcomed the Kraken into the league with an AWESOME pre-game open and a great game. The Golden Knights ended up getting the 4-3 win.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said the league has only four unvaccinated players as it opens up the 2021-22 season. Bettman said NHL officials and all the personnel who come into contact with the players are vaccinated. There are still COVID-19 cases involving players who are fully vaccinated. The expansion Seattle Kraken were missing a number of players due to COVID-19 protocols for their first game and Avalanche star Nathan MacKinnon will miss their season opener against the Blackhawks on Wednesday night due to an infection.
Yesterday we saw two more teams punch their way into their Championship series. In the AL we have the ALCS all set. The Red Sox won two nights ago and last night the Astros eliminated the White Sox 10-1. That series ended at 3-1. Over in the NL – the Braves eliminated the Brewers with their 6-5 win and they will take on the winner of the Dodgers/Giants series which continues tomorrow night. The deciding Game 5 will be played in SF at 8 after the Dodgers picked up a 7-2 win last night.
The Buccaneers are removing Jon Gruden from the team’s Ring of Honor. “The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have advocated for purposeful change in the areas of race relations, gender equality, diversity and inclusion for many years. While we acknowledge Jon Gruden’s contributions on the field, his actions go against our core values as an organization. Therefore, he will no longer continue to be a member of the Buccaneers Ring of Honor.” The announcement comes one day after the release of numerous offensive emails Gruden sent between 2010 to 2018. The Raiders head coach resigned from his position Monday evening.
After staying away for two weeks to start the NBA preseason, 76ers All-Star guard Ben Simmons reported to the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Monday night — much to the surprise of an organization that had expected him later in the week. As the Sixers neared the tip of a 115-104 preseason victory over the Brooklyn Nets, Simmons — fresh off a flight from Los Angeles — entered the arena to take a COVID-19 test and start the process of returning to a franchise from which he has requested a trade. The Sixers are desperate to restart communication with the three-time All-Star who hasn’t had a direct conversation with the front office or coach Doc Rivers since a late August meeting in which he reiterated his desire for a trade. Under the terms of the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement, Simmons lost roughly $360,000 for each of the two preseasons game he missed. The 76ers are believed to have fined Simmons for missed practices: $2,500 for the first, $5,000 for the second, $7,500 for the third and for every practice after.
Tiger Woods is on the comeback trail after a devastating car accident in California earlier this year. A source said Tiger has made a remarkable recovery in the past few months. It’s like every day he can do more, he can handle more, the pain is less and he’s feeling better. Back in February, Tiger’s doctors said he “suffered significant orthopedic injuries to his right lower extremity” after his vehicle crashed. Many thought it was the end for Tiger. According to the source, Tiger has said he will return. He even has a date in mind but he isn’t sharing that with anyone. Woods was on the course last weekend as an observer. He was watching his 12-year-old son Charlie compete in a junior golf tournament.
Earlier this week it was a different type of pressure for former NBA player JR Smith. He wasn’t at the free throw line…he was lining up tee shots as a 36-year-old freshman walk-on playing his first college golf tournament for North Carolina A&T. He shot a 12-over-par 83 in Round 1 and then a 7-over 78 in Round 2. In round three he didn’t hit a single birdie and finished at 8-over. He placed 81st out of 84 golfers.
And finally…the US Men’s National Team is in action for another World Cup Qualifier against Costa Rica. The US looks to bounce back from a loss to Panama. Tonight the game kicks off at 6PM.
