Skid Row singer Johnny Solinger, who took over for Sebastian Bach in 1999, died (link) on Saturday. John Preston Solinger was an American singer-songwriter best known as the lead vocalist of Skid Row from 1999 to 2015. At the time of his split, Solinger was the band’s longest-serving vocalist, surpassing Sebastian Bach, who was in the band for nine years (Here’s a clip of “I Remember You Two”. It’s a punk version of their classic “I Remember You”.)
The man responsible for bringing real car chases, drug busts, and police activity to prime time has died. John Langley created the tv show Cops. He passed away on Saturday from a heart attack. He was 78-years-old. The reality show debuted on Fox in 1989 and remained on U.S. television with original episodes until 2020.
‘Fast & Furious 9′ Breaks Pandemic Records at the Box Office! The film opened to a massive $70 million across over 4,000 North American venues, making the biggest start for a film at the U.S. box office amid the pandemic era. The previous record was held by A Quiet Place Part II, opening to $48.3 million in its first weekend outing. The film also opened bigger than the 2019 spinoff Hobbs & Shaw, which generated $60 million in its opening weekend.
To celebrate the movie’s release, someone at TheWrap.com ranked the “Fast and Furious” movies from BEST to WORST. Here’s the list:
- “Fast Five”, 2011.
- “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift”, 2006.
- “Fast & Furious 6”, 2013.
- “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw”, 2019.
- “2 Fast 2 Furious”, 2003.
- “Furious 7”, 2015.
- “The Fast and the Furious”, 2001.
- “F9”, 2021.
- “The Fate of the Furious”, 2017.
- “Fast & Furious”, 2009
So there’s already talks of an all female “Fast and Furious” spin-off and now, Vin Diesel wants to do a musical version of the movie. Says he’s been dying to do a musical his whole life and almost did a Guys and Dolls with Steven Spielberg, but we ended up not doing that.”
BTW…Dune (link) will move from an Oct. 1 release to Oct. 22, available day-and-date on HBO Max and in theaters (also in 3D and Imax formats). Insiders say that the movie was prompted by the desire to give the film more distance from Bond film No Time to Die, which opens Oct. 8. The sci-fi adventure film will take over the date previously held by Clint Eastwood’s latest, Cry Macho, which will move to Sept. 17. Also a part of the shuffle is Sopranos prequel The Many Saints of Newark, which will move back a week to Oct. 1
SAMUEL L. JACKSON has only ever been nominated for ONE Oscar. It was Best Supporting Actor for “Pulp Fiction” in 1994, and he didn’t win. But it sounds like the Academy has finally realized how badly they’ve wronged him, because he’s getting an HONORARY Oscar next year. The Academy says, quote, “Sam Jackson is a cultural icon whose dynamic work has resonated across genres and generations and audiences worldwide.” Which doesn’t explain why they’ve virtually IGNORED him for 30 years. Three other people get honorary statues this year: Danny Glover, Liv Ullmann, and Elaine May.

Well, COURTNEY LOVE pointed out (link) on Instagram that the image is VERY similar to the cover of the classic HOLE album “Live Through This (link)“. Dm me for deets! I look forward to reading your note!” During a discussion (link) with her followers on Facebook, Courtney called it “rude” that Olivia would recreate the image without her permission, adding, quote, “manners is manners.” She added, quote, “I’ve informed [Rodrigo] I await her flowers and note. I sure hope it’s long. Does Disney teach kids reading and writing? God knows. Let’s see. Yes this is rude. Rage inducing? Honey if I had a dollar for every [time] this happens? I’d be real rich!”

On Friday the Cards lost a closer one to the Pirates 5-4…Saturday they picked up the 3-1 win. Yesterday, the team attempted to go back to back in the win column….and unfortunately…the Pirates got the 7-2 win. The loss was the 4th in a row for Johan Oviedo. Up next is a series against the Diamondbacks where Wade LeBlanc will get the start. LeBlanc was signed by the Cardinals on the 17th of this month after being released by the Rangers organization. First pitch tonight is scheduled for 7:15PM.
Major League Baseball announced the top-three vote-getters at each position from each league. The players will advance to the second round of voting, which ends on July 1. The All-Star starters will be announced later that night, while the rest of the MLB All-Stars will be named on July 4. Two St. Louis Cardinals are in the running for a starting spot on the 2021 MLB All-Star game roster. At Catcher, Yadier Molina currently sits in second place, as does 3rd basemen Nolan Arenado.
Mariners lefthander Hector Santiago became the first pitcher ejected for pitch doctoring since MLB began enforcing its rules against foreign substances. After Santiago was removed with one out and the bases loaded in the fifth inning of Seattle’s game against the White Sox, umpire Phil Cuzzi performed the necessary check for sticky stuff. He found a substance on Santiago’s glove, met with Mariners manager Scott Servais and passed the glove to an MLB authenticator, who put it in a plastic bag. Under the guidelines – Santiago will now be subject to a 10-day suspension if he is ruled to have possessed or applied a foreign substance during the game. MLB began enforcing its rules prohibiting the use of foreign substances last Monday after the public outcry about pitch doctoring became too loud to ignore.
The Stanley Cup Final begins tonight in Tampa. The Lightning attempt to go back-to-back as the Canadiens attempt to win their first Cups since 1993. Puck drop tonight is scheduled for 7PM.
Over in the NBA…we have a chance to see the Suns move on to the NBA finals as they are up against the Clippers 3-1. Game 5 tips off tonight in Phoenix at 8PM. Rumor is that Kawai Leonard maybe back in the starting lineup tonight. Over in the East – the Bucks beat the Hawks last night 113-102. Trey Young sprained his ankle pretty badly yesterday and it could be bad news for the Hawks. Game 4 of that series is tomorrow night in Atlanta.
Trail Blazers star point guard Damian Lillard could request to move on from the team as he becomes more and more pissed with the team. Portland’s process of hiring its new head coach and concerns over the team’s inability to build a championship-contending team could push Lillard out the door. The Trail Blazers have reportedly hired Clippers assistant Chauncey Billups as their new head coach and are expected to announce the move this week. However, none of the candidates were suggestions of Lillard’s.
University of Memphis coach Penny Hardaway has emerged as a serious candidate to be the next head coach of the Magic. Hardaway, who has already interviewed with the team, was a star in Orlando from 93 to 99. In his six seasons there, he was a four-time All-Star, named All-NBA First Team twice and All-NBA Third Team once. He played in the NBA for 14 seasons before retiring in 2007. Hardaway has coached the University of Memphis Tigers since 2018 and has built a reputation for player development, growing a strong network in the basketball community. The Magic parted ways with coach Steve Clifford earlier this month after finishing the 2020-21 season 21–51.
Six and a half hours in, Harris English was tired. After 80 holes in 80-degree heat, he was struggling to focus. Darkness was an issue and he lost count of how many holes he had played. English, who shot a 5-under 65 to finish at 13 under and then rattled off seven pars in the playoff before holing a 16-foot birdie putt for the win. Both him and Kramer Hickok birdied the final hole in regulation to force the playoff, which is second only to the 11-hole sudden death in the 1949 Motor City Open. Four other events have reached an eighth sudden-death hole. It was the second win this year and the fourth career victory for English, who finished third at the U.S. Open last week — and fourth in the pandemic-delayed U.S. Open in September.
Simone Biles … Next stop: Tokyo. And one more shot at history. And gold. Perhaps lots of it. The reigning world and Olympic champion will headline the U.S. women’s gymnastics team in Japan next month, clinching one of the automatic berths at the Olympic trials on Sunday night. Biles heads to Japan as the face of her sport. She has become more than just a gymnastics star since her coronation in Rio in 2016. Sunisa Lee, Jordan Chiles and Grace McCallum will join Biles on the four-woman Olympic team. MyKayla Skinner, an alternate in 2016, was awarded the “plus-1” specialist spot. Jade Carey earned a nominative spot through the World Cup circuit, meaning she will compete as an individual. Kayla DiCello, Kara Eaker, Leanne Wong and Emma Malabuyo will serve as the alternates.
