NICK CANNON shared the devastating news of the passing of his youngest son, Zen, during “The Nick Cannon Show” yesterday.  Zen was only 5-months-old when he died from brain cancer. Nick said he took Zen to the doctor when he was 2-months-old, for what he thought was a sinus issue.  He said he noticed his head was bigger than normal, but didn’t think anything of it because that was common among his children. Unfortunately, Zen had to get emergency brain surgery to have a shunt put in to drain fluid.  But things took a turn for the worse during Thanksgiving, when he was discovered to have a fast-growing cancerous brain tumor (LINK)

In 2019, LIL UZI VERT was walking through the King of Prussia Mall in Philly when a Temple University student named Raheel Ahmad asked him to pay for his college.  Uzi asked the kid how much it cost, and he told him $90,000.  Well, Uzi said he COULD pay that, but only if Raheel FINISHED college.  And he said Raheel would have to show him proof. Well, Raheel announced on Monday that he has graduated from Temple, with a 3.5 GPA.  And he said that he plans to put his degree to work on college tuition reform. He also invited Lil Uzi Vert to his graduation AND grad party.  No word back yet from the man himself.

Last night it once again took a little extra hockey to find a winner…but this time…the Blues came out on top.  Vlady Tarasenko tied things up at one in the second period, but the Panthers jumped right back on top.  Brayden Schenn tied things up before the end of the 2nd, and Brandon Saad put the Blues up 3-2 early in the 3rd.  With just over 5 mins to go, the Panthers tied things up and we headed to overtime.  However, just 53 seconds into the OT, Pavel Buchnevich scored and gave the Blues the 4-3 win.  The team is off tonight and host the Red Wings on Thursday at 7PM.

There is a video that you have to see on the blog right now.  Its from the Ducks game and it’s possibly the goal of the year – and its not even because of the goal – its because of the assist.  If you haven’t heard of the Michigan Goal or The Lacrosse Goal in hockey, you need to check that out first.  It’s basically a player “scooping” the puck up and putting it in the net.  It’s impressive.  But last night, Trevor Zegras lifted the puck up from behind the net, lofted the puck over the crossbar, and Sonny Milano alley-ooped it and scored.  It’s incredible and the video is on the blog (LINK)

Sports Illustrated has started giving out their yearly awards….here are some quick highlights.  Caeleb Dressel and Suni Lee are both Olympic medalists and now can add Sports Illustrated‘s Athlete of the Year award to their collection.  Both gold medalists were honored for rising to the top of their respective sports—Lee in gymnastics and Dressel in swimming.  I know it sounds a bit confusing but Tom Brady was awarded Sports PERSON of the year.  The award is given annually to an athlete, coach or team who best represents the spirit of sportsmanship, character and performance. Brady previously received the honor as a New England Patriot in 2005 following his third Super Bowl title. As far as PLAY OF THE YEAR — South Dakota was trailing rival South Dakota State by three points with one second to play. Receiver Jeremiah Webb snagged a tipped ball in the end zone after a 60-yard Hail Mary to give the Coyotes a massive win over their bitter rivals.  There is video of the play on the blog.

After President Joe Biden’s administration announced its diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Beijing Olympics, China said the move “seriously violates the principle of political neutrality of sports established by the Olympic Charter and runs counter to the Olympic motto ‘more united.”  A rep from China said that the country would respond with “resolute countermeasures.” He did not provide details.  He wrapped things up by saying: “The U.S. will pay a price for its practices. You may stay tuned for follow-ups.”

NBA players who are not fully vaccinated will not be able to play games in Toronto beginning Jan. 15, per a mandate by the Canadian government.  A memo sent out by the league said: “Any player who is not fully vaccinated and does not have a medical contraindication to receiving a COVID-19 vaccine will be unable to enter Canada to play in games in Toronto.” The league said 97% of its players are vaccinated (about 15 players are not). Of that number, 60% have received a booster.

Former NFL defensive end Aldon Smith (LINK) was arrested Monday on a felony charge of DUI causing injury. Smith’s bail is set at $50,000. The 32-year-old played for the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders and Dallas Cowboys. He also signed a contract with the Seattle Seahawks in April but was released in August because of an “off-the-field matter.” Smith’s legal history includes multiple DUI arrests as well as domestic violence-related charges in 2018.  If the name sounds familiar…he played college football at Mizzou

After four decades of covering Major League Baseball, longtime writer and ESPN analyst Tim Kurkjian is the 2022 winner of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America’s Career Excellence Award. The award, which is the highest award for the Baseball Writers of America, is given out annually “for contributions to baseball writing.” Kurkjian, who turns 65 on Friday, will be recognized at Hall of Fame ceremonies this summer. Kurkjian began his writing career in Texas where he covered the Texas Rangers for the Dallas Morning News in 1981. He moved on to become a mainstay at Sports Illustrated in 1989 and remained there for a long time before ending up at ESPN where he still currently works.

Last week we talked about how the best player in women’s college basketball Paige Bueckers just signed the first ever NIL deal with Gatorade.  Not just for female college athletes, but for all college athletes.  Well, the very next game, she suffered a non-contact injury, and we have the results.  She fractured her left knee and will be out 6-8 weeks.

The Mizzou Tigers got back to action last night as they beat Eastern Illinois 72-44.  They next play 8th Kansas on Saturday.  SLU has lost their second in a row after Belmont got the 64-59 win last night.  They play Boston College on Saturday.  Illinois is off until Saturday when they take on 11th ranked Arizona.
