Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins died in Bogota, Columbia shortly before the band was set to headline a festival on Friday night.  He was 50 years old. An ambulance was reportedly sent to Hawkins’ hotel room after the city’s emergency care center received a call about someone having chest pains.  EMS couldn’t revive Hawkins and he was declared dead at the hotel. The band announced his passing late Friday night, writing “The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children, and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.” Hawkins was born in Texas in 1972 but moved to Laguna Beach, California in 1976.  He would score his first pro drumming gig with Sass Jordan. Hawkins was 23 in 1995 and in Alanis Morrisette’s band, recording and touring with her album, Jagged Little Pill, when Dave Grohl first noticed the drummer.  Hawkins would eventually join Foo Fighters in 1997. Grohl wrote about meeting Hawkins for the first time in his memoir, The Storyteller.  He wrote “Tearing through the room like an F5 tornado of hyperactive joy was Taylor Hawkins, my brother from another mother, my best friend, a man for whom I would take a bullet. Hawkins’ last live performance  with Foo Fighters was at Lollapalooza Argentina on March 22nd.

A preliminary toxicology report released Sunday by Columbia’s attorney general showed he had ten different substances in his system when he died Friday. Those substances included marijuana, opioids, tricyclic antidepressants (drugs to ease depression symptoms) and benzodiazepines. Stuff for anxiety and depression. The Daily Mail reports that an autopsy revealed that Hawkins’s heart weighed twice the size of an average man’s when he passed.  An exact cause of death hasn’t been announced at this time.

Well the Oscars finally got exciting…All it took was Will Smith assaulting Chris Rock on stage. Amazon is coming out with a first-ever James Bond series.  But it’s a competition series called “007’s Road to a Million”. They’ll compete in physical obstacles and answer hidden questions in order to advance to the next challenge.  The grand prize is actually $1.3 million, which is 1 million British pounds.  Production is supposed to start later this year (LINK)

It’s the last stop of our tour, and it’s the last show for Genesis. It’s difficult for us to believe that, uh, you still came out to see us! Yes, after tonight we’ve all got to get real jobs. ” After 23 songs, Collins announced that former Genesis frontman Peter Gabriel was in the audience,  joking: “Maybe he’s the one shouting for ‘Supper’s Ready’ — I don’t know!”

Sports Report 1

Albert Pujols is going back to where it all started — to the organization with which he carved out a Hall of Fame career, and to the city that still adores him. On Sunday night, Pujols and Cardinals agreed to terms on a one-year contract for the 2022 season. Once he completes his physical, Pujols will officially return to the Cardinals organization. The deal is worth $2.5 million, sources said, and will grant Pujols a part-time role in which he will seemingly start at designated hitter against lefties and otherwise serve as a late-game pinch-hitter.

The Blues are in action tonight at Enterprise Center.  Things haven’t been going very good for the Blues as of late.  They lost 5-2 to the Flyers on Thursday and then 7-2 against the Hurricanes on Saturday…it’s been ugly.  Things at Enterprise Center get started at 6:30PM.

The Final Four is officially set in the NCAA Tournament.  Over the weekend 2nd Villnova got the win over 5th ranked Houston.  Duke made easy work of Arkansas.  And yesterday – 1st ranked Kansas destroyed 10th ranked Miami as the Cinderella run for Saint Peters came to a close as the 15th seed lost to the 8th seed North Carolina Tar Heels.  On Saturday – No. 2 Villanova takes on No. 1 Kansas and No 8 UNC takes on No 2 Duke in the late game.  The Championship game is one week from tonight.

The United States men’s national team couldn’t confirm its place in the World Cup after Costa Rica’s win at El Salvador earlier in the day, but its 5-1 win over Panama in put it on the brink of qualifying for Qatar 2022. Christian Pulisic scored his first career hat trick with the national team, and additional goals from Paul Arriola and Jesus Ferreira saw the Americans cruise. U.S. would need to suffer a six-goal defeat at Costa Rica on Wednesday to be denied automatic qualification and sent to a playoff with the winners of Oceania.

In the past 2 weeks we have seen a TON of movement in the NFL.  Quite possibly the craziest NFL off-season to date.  From Brady’s return, DeShaun Watson finding a home, Matt Ryan going to Indy…and of course…all the coaching changes as well.  Mike Tomlin commented on the Steelers‘ hiring of Brian Flores for the first time following the addition of the ex-Dolphins coach to Pittsburgh’s defensive staff. Flores, who had filed a lawsuit seeking class action status against the NFL and three teams alleging discrimination in their hiring practices on Feb. 1, was brought aboard as a senior defensive assistant and linebackers coach with the Steelers. “I wanted to stay close to Brian when his legal issues started…I just didn’t want him to feel like he was on an island. It doesn’t require a lot of time to come to the realization that you could use a Brian Flores on your staff. I was so excited that he shared the same level of enthusiasm about being a part of us as we were about potentially acquiring him. It’s been really good.”

Ross Chastain took first in the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix from Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas on Sunday. The overtime win marked Chastain’s first on the NASCAR Cup Series. Alex Bowman, Christopher Bell, Chase Elliott and Tyler Reddick rounded out the top five.

I know its rare we report on college baseball…but this was just too crazy to not mention…Sunday afternoon, Yale catcher Jake Gehri set a new Ivy League record with four home runs in a single conference game. Gehri went 4-for-5 with two grand slams, a two-run homer, and a solo homer in the game. He drove in 11 runs total
