On a British talk show, Deana said she likes John, but she’s “absolutely” offended that he rewrote the lyrics.  She said, quote, “It’s absurd.  I think what he’s done is, he’s stealing the thunder from Frank Loesser’s song and from my Dad.  He should write his own song if he doesn’t like this one.  But don’t change the lyrics.  It’s a classic, perfect song.”

In a new interview for Variety’s recovery issue, Jamie Lee Curtis admits she once “did cocaine and freebased” with her dad and fellow actor, Tony Curtis. Jamie Lee, who came clean with her own Vicodin addiction last year, said her dad got sober “for a short period of time,” but that “it didn’t last long.” One of her siblings, Nicholas, also died of a heroin overdose when he was 21, which helps explain why Jamie Lee has been sober for nearly 20 years. BTW in the issue as well is Danny Trejo talking up his sobriety. Trejo went from a 24 year old heroin addict, to a sober, prolific actor. A Las Vegas casino is suing Evander Kane, claiming the San Jose Sharks forward failed to pay back $500,000 in gambling markers given to him in April. The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas filed the lawsuit against Kane on Monday, saying he took out eight separate credits that totaled $500,000 in mid-April. Markers are special credits that allow gamblers, if qualified, to more easily receive access to large amounts of money on the spot. Kane and the Sharks were in Las Vegas when he allegedly used the markers, as San Jose played the Golden Knights in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. The 28-year-old Kane is in the second year of a seven-year, $49 million deal he inked with the Sharks. The Sharks did not comment.

Los Angeles Chargers owner Dean Spanos strongly denied a report that the NFL team could potentially relocate to London, saying, “It’s total f***ing bulls**t. We’re not going to London. We’re not going anywhere. We’re playing in Los Angeles. This is our home. Period.” Spanos’ denial came after The Athletic reported Monday that the Chargers and the NFL could look at moving the team to London, partly because of concerns about the Los Angeles market.

The Carolina Panthers have put quarterback Cam Newton on injured reserved, which means he will be out for the rest of the regular season, with the possibility of returning if the Panthers make the playoffs. Panthers general manager said in a statement yesterday that Newton still has pain in his foot and needs to continue to rehab from the mid-foot sprain. Newton has missed the last six games, replaced by Kyle Allen, while trying to recover from the injury he initially suffered during the preseason.  Many people are saying you may never see Cam Newton throw a pass in a Carolina jersey again.  Also speaking of QBs, Nick Foles is returning to action in Jacksonville – and it looks like that’s the end of the Gardner Minshew II era.  The team has announced that Nick Foles WILL be the starting quarterback.

Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins was suspended for 25 games yesterday by the NBA after testing positive for a growth hormone. The 22-year-old, who is Atlanta’s second-leading scorer and leading rebounder, apologized in a statement, saying he was, quote, “incredibly frustrated and disappointed in myself for putting all of us in this position.” However, he said he plans to appeal, contending that he took a supplement that, unknown to him, had been, quote, “contaminated with an illegal component.”

The first College Football Playoff ranking was released Tuesday, and there wasn’t much surprise at the top, as undefeated Ohio State held the top spot. SEC rivals LSU and Alabama, who meet this weekend, occupy the second and third spots respectively. However, there was a little bit of a surprise at #4, as Penn State leapfrogged defending national champion Clemson to claim the last playoff spot. For Ohio State, it was the first time in the CFP era that they’ve held the #1 ranking. Georgia, Oregon, Utah, Oklahoma and Florida round out the top 10.

SLU started off their season 1-0 last night as they beat Florida Gulf Coast 89-67.  The Billikens are back home on Saturday as they take on Valparaiso.  Mizzou kicks off their season tonight as they host Incarnate Word.  Tip off is scheduled for 7PM.

You don’t need to know much about football to know that the most basic objective of the game is to move the ball from one end of the field to the other. Only twice in the NFL’s 99-year history have teams lost yards in a game. The worst offenders were the Seattle Seahawks, 40 years ago today, in a game against the Los Angeles Rams played at the Kingdome. The Seahawks netted -7 yards that game. The negative yardage was the result of a total -30 passing yards and 23 running yards in the positive direction. The Hawks had the ball for a total of 35 plays, meaning the team averaged -7 inches per play. The game ended with a final score of 24-0.
