Is it possible to drink 33 beers in an evening? – TCPalm
Is it possible to drink 33 beers in an evening? Apparently so, if you’re 48-year-old Michael Monahan. According to an arrest affidavit, that’s what Monahan told St. Lucie County sheriff’s deputies he did after accusations he used foul language and tried to fight outside Body Talk Sports Bar on South U.S. 1. Deputies about 11:40 p.m. July 8 went to the adult entertainment establishment after a report of a man passed out in the parking lot. Investigators found a woman rubbing the back of an apparently unconscious man later identified as Monahan.

Prosecutors in Massachusetts dropped the sexual assault charges against KEVIN SPACEY yesterday. He was facing a felony charge of indecent assault and battery, for allegedly groping a then-18-year-old guy at a bar three years ago. But the case fell apart. There were issues with a cellphone that was part of the evidence . . . and the accuser exercised his Fifth Amendment right and refused to testify, which kept the case from moving forward. The alleged victim’s mother who came forward with the allegations against Spacey back in November 2017, told investigators she was the one who deleted texts related to her son’s “frat boy activities. Kevin isn’t totally in the clear. This was just ONE of the allegations made against him. It all started in October of 2017, when actor Anthony Rapp claimed that Spacey made sexual advances towards him in 1986 when he was 14.
Cuba Gooding Jr is being accused of groping a 30 year old woman at a New York City bar. HIS lawyers are now saying she has shown signs of mental imbalance on social media. Assuming they want to use that against her in court. They are referencing a posts about anxiety and depression and the fact that her “brain was one big fat mess”. Prosecuters are telling him to kick rocks on that. They basically said a victim like this WILL have problems duh. (“An individual feeling violated by another’s touching has understandable harm.”)
Jon Hamm is filming for that new Top Gun: Maverick. And he is gushing about the technology being used. Apparently not much cgi. They are using some “never before seen” technology and shooting the film in 6K. aerial footage is “mind blowing”. He also said the set is practically identical to those used in the 1986 original, an experience that resulted in footage he called “out of this world.” “for the people who love the first movie I think it’s gonna’ be very interesting to watch. It very much takes the story in a different direction. But I think for the new fans it’s gonna be something very cool, too. I’ve seen some of the footage, it is out of this world.” Top Gun: Maverick is set for a June 26, 2020 release.
A new version of “Gossip Girl” is coming to the new streaming service HBO Max, and the creators of the original are on board. The original series ran on the CW from 2007 to 2012, and launched the careers of Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, Leighton Meester, Chace Crawford, and Ed Westwick. There’s no word if any of them are returning, because this time, the focus will be on NEW characters. Here’s how it’s being described . . . quote, “Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. “The series will address just how much social media, and the landscape of New York itself, has changed in the intervening years.” There’s no word when it’ll debut. HBO Max is set to launch in the spring of 2020.

Comic Con starts TODAY in San Diego, and so the “Hollywood Reporter” conducted a poll of 2,200 people on comics, superhero movies, and pop culture. Here are the ones they asked about, and the percentage of people who were fans:

Obviously, most of the interest in comic book characters is because of the recent movies. It’s unclear how much it’s carried over into actual READING, but it probably provided a big boost. 37% say they’re fans of comic books, which seems high for the population in general, but it’s low when you consider that 62% said they were fans of superhero movies, and 58% said they like “movies based on comic books.” Still, more than one-in-three people being into comic books must be bigger than it was 15 years ago. And 13% are serious enough that they’ve participated in cosplay, and dressed up like their favorite characters.

77-year-old PAUL MCCARTNEY just finished a tour, and apparently, he’s not just going to kick up his heels and relax. He’s writing his first STAGE MUSICAL. It’s an adaptation of “It’s a Wonderful Life”, which he’s old enough to have seen in THEATERS. (That may sound like a joke, but it isn’t. Paul was born in 1942. The movie came out in ’46.) He’s working with Lee Hall, the playwright who did “Billy Elliot”. Paul said he’s doing it because it, quote, “seemed interesting and fun.” There aren’t many details yet, but they’re supposedly hoping to have it ready by the end of next year.
METALLICA played a show in Finland on Tuesday night, and ended up performing for one percent of the ENTIRE POPULATION. They drew a crowd of 55,000 . . . and there are only 5.5 million people in all of Finland. The band donated 55,000 euros to a local children’s charity . . . one euro for each member of the audience. As they often do, bassist ROBERT TRUJILLO and guitarist KIRK HAMMETT did their little segment where they tackle a song that means something to the local crowd. On this night they chose a song from the Finnish rock band POPEDA. It’s called “Kuuma Kesä”, which means “Hot Summer”. And Robert sang it IN FINNISH.

Tyler O’Neill continued his tear yesterday as he went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and Paul Goldschmidt went deep in the 6-5 win over the Pirates. John Brebbia picked up the win. Tonight, the Cards and Reds start a series in Cincinnati. Dakota Hudson gets the start. First pitch is scheduled for 6:10PM.
Los Angeles Angels pitcher Noe Ramirez was suspended for three games and fined an undisclosed amount by Major League Baseball yesterday for throwing a pitch towards Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick’s head on Tuesday. Los Angeles manager Brad Ausmuswas also suspended for one game and fined. Ramirez hit Marisnick between the shoulder blades in the sixth inning of the Angels 7-2 win over the Astros. Marisnick was playing his first game against Los Angeles since he ran over catcher Jonathan Lucroy in a violent collision at home plate while trying to score during a July 7th game, leaving Lucroy with a concussion and broken nose. Marisnick was suspended two games for the collision. Ramirez said he will appeal his suspension.
According to the Sports Business Journal, we are one step closer to living in a world in which advertising on jerseys is going to be more the norm than the exception. That’s because MLB is reportedly considering following the NBA’s lead and adding advertising patches to player uniforms. The report states that we’re still a few years away from seeing the patches, because their allowance would need to be negotiated into the next CBA in 2022.
The NHL expansion team coming from Seattle has made a hire. They announced earlier this week that they have hired former NHLer and Hockey Hall of Fame inductee Ron Francis as their GM. Francis played for the Whalers, Penguins, Hurricanes, and Maple Leafs during his career. He won 2 Stanley Cups with the Penguins in the early 90s. The Seattle team will begin play in the 2021-2022 season.
The holdout was a short one. It wasn’t even really a holdout. Rookie quarterback Drew Lock, the 42nd pick in the draft, has agreed to terms with the Denver Broncos. Lock got the standard deal for his slot. The contract is guaranteed for the first two years. There were rumors that Lock was looking for a “quarterback premium,” in the form of more guarantees or any other terms, but someone close to him said that was not true. That said, Lock will receive workout bonuses for 2021 and 2022. The Broncos hadn’t paid workout bonuses in year three and four for a second-round pick in six years. Lock is expected to be the backup to starter Joe Flacco in 2019. If Flacco is injured, however, Lock needs to be ready to go.
Former baseball infielder Elijah “Pumpsie” Green, the first black player on the Boston Red Sox, which was the last major league team to integrate, died yesterday. He was 85. Green entered his first game for Boston in July 1959, integrating the team more than 12 years after Jackie Robinson became Major League Baseball’s first black player with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Green played parts of four seasons with the Red Sox before finishing his career with one year with the New York Mets.
So STL is getting an XFL team….and some people have some questions. Oliver Luck, the commissioner of the league, tried to answer some of those questions. Here are some things you can expect:
• A running game clock, meaning that the clock won’t stop after incomplete passes or runs out of bounds.
• A shorter play clock between plays. In the NFL its 40 seconds. In the XFL, that could be as short as 25 seconds.
• A three-point conversion. After a touchdown, offenses will have the option of trying a scrimmage play from the 10-yard line. If the play succeeds, it will be worth three points.
• Multiple forward passes behind the line of scrimmage.
• Eliminating kneel downs and increasing the potential for late-game comebacks. The kneel down itself won’t be outlawed; it just won’t make any practical sense to try it if, during the final two minutes of each half, the game clock stops after every play.
• Overtime shootouts. Each team’s offense and defense line up at opposite ends of the field and alternate attempting five two-point conversions. Yes, that’s 44 players on the field at the same time.
When will the XFL announce team names and colors?
The XFL will launch reveal its team identities this month, Luck said. It will unveil its jersey designs later in the summer, possibly in August.
will the XFL start building its rosters?
The first phase will be signing players who attended showcases; in terms of talent level, those players likely will represent the bottom half of XFL rosters. The second phase will be signing unclaimed players that NFL teams cut in August; those players likely will represent the top half of rosters. All of those players — about 600 to 700 total — will be placed into a pool for a draft, the third phase. The XFL is planning to hold its draft during the second week of October. Because the league is trying to fill entire rosters, its first draft will be a relatively long process and could span three days. Plans are fluid, but the XFL is considering live streaming the draft on its website.
networks will be broadcasting XFL games?
ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, FOX, FS1 and FS2. On most Saturdays, ABC will air a game at 2 p.m. and FOX will air a game at 5 p.m. Sunday times and channels vary a bit more, but there still will be an afternoon broadcast (usually 3 or 4 p.m.) and an early evening broadcast (usually 6 or 7 p.m.). The championship game is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, April 26 and will air on ESPN.
