RONAN FARROW’s new book “Catch and Kill” comes out next week.  It’s about his investigation of Harvey Weinstein and how his then-employer, NBC News, tried to put a stop to it. It also includes a pretty serious allegation about Matt Lauer.  In the book, Farrow talks to Brooke Nevils, the former NBC employee whose complaint about Lauer got him FIRED in 2017. Remember, the exact nature of her complaint has never been revealed . . . until now:  She says Lauer raped her in a hotel room during the 2014 Sochi Olympics.  After this news dropped yesterday, NBC issued a statement saying, quote, “Matt Lauer’s conduct was appalling, horrific and reprehensible, as we said at the time. “That’s why he was fired within 24 hours of us first learning of the complaint.  Our hearts break again for our colleague.” Lauer fought back hard, issuing a statement saying Nevils is LYING.  He claims that they not only had CONSENSUAL sex in that hotel room, but it was part of an ongoing affair. He also denied the infamous story about him having a button at his desk that locked his office door from the inside.  In the book, Nevils admits that she did continue to have sex with Lauer.  She says, quote, “This is what I blame myself most for.  It was completely transactional.  It was not a relationship.” And on the show yesterday, SAVANNAH GUTHRIE and HODA KOTB also gave Nevils their support.  Matt’s ex-wife is refusing to comment, not surprisingly.

Kevin Hart returned to work for the first time since fracturing his spine in three places in a car crash last month.  He has started doing marketing campaigning for the. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Danny DeVito and Danny Glover…all reportedly reduced their work schedules to accommodate Hart’s circumstances.  Hart was in his car with two others when it crashed on L.A.’s infamous Mulholland Drive in September, and he’s currently being sued by them over the crash.

A “John Wick” spin-off is in the works.  It’s called “Ballerina”, and it’s about a young female assassin who wants revenge against the people who killed her family. The movie is on “a fast track,” and it’ll be directed by Len Wiseman, who did the first two “Underworld” movies . . . “Live Free or Die Hard” . . . and the 2012 version of “Total Recall”. It isn’t clear if KEANU REEVES will make a cameo, but he will executive produce.  Keanu is also working on a FOURTH “John Wick” movie, but it won’t be out until 2021.

Last night’s episode of The Masked Singer the final four contestants for Season Two were introduced and quickly squared off, with The Eagle taking on the Flower, and the Penguin competing with the Fox. The Eagle and Penguin both came up short with their first performances, and then met in the Smackdown showdown. The Eagle did a version of “These Boots Are Made For Walking” and here is the Penguin’s version of Meet Me in the Middle. Before the reveal, the judges were unable to guess The Eagle’s real identity, who turned out to be… TV doctor Dr. Drew Pinsky. Dr Drew joins the prevuisly unmasked Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, Johnny Weir and Laila Ali, while the three other newcomers move on to next week.

What show is this from where to characters are talking about Mom being an addict? A few months ago, “Sesame Street” introduced a new Muppet who’s in foster care.  Now they’ve revealed that the reason she’s in foster care is that her mom is an addict.  Here is Karli and her good friend Saliha, whose parents are also addicts, talking about it.  “Sesame Street” says that they’re trying to help raise awareness and offer resources to help.

Saturday is “National Album Day,” which is something that actually exists apparently. For anyone under the age of 25, “albums” are collections of songs . . . kind of like playlists . . . except the songs are all released at the same time, usually by a single artist. Anyway, a British study has been released claiming that there’s a strong link between listening to full albums and positive mental well-being. It quotes a recent survey where 82.9% of people said listening to albums helped them relax . . . 76.4% said listening to albums can make them feel better if they’re feeling down . . .74.3% said listening to their favorite albums is a source of comfort . . . and 64.7% said they listen to their favorite albums when they feel like they need a lift. Overall, people said that eating a favorite food was the most helpful way to boost their mood.  Reading was next, followed by listening to an album, exercising, watching a movie, watching TV, gardening, and taking a nap.

For the second time in four years, the green cardigan that KURT COBAIN wore for NIRVANA’s “MTV Unplugged” episode is going up for auction. It’s expected to sell for around $300,000, with a starting bid of $50K.  The current owner, an anonymous businessman, kept it stored in acid-free tissue in a safe.  This person bought it at auction in 2015 for $137,500. If you have a ton of money to blow on something like this, you might be wondering what physical condition it’s in. Well, I don’t know if this will gross you out or excite you, but it’s NEVER BEEN WASHED! The auction house says, quote, “It’s very important that we don’t wash it.  The stains are still there.  There’s even cigarettes burns that you can see on the sweater. He didn’t elaborate on the stains, which is probably for the best.

Courtney Love’s Hole was one of the most culturally significant alternative rock bands of the ’90s, and their output has remained mostly contained within that decade. Their first three albums were released in the ’90s, although they reunited for a fourth album, Nobody’s Daughter, in 2010. While that reunion only lasted a couple years, it looks like another comeback could be on the horizon: Love has shared a new photo of a rehearsal with the band. The picture shows Love performing with drummer Patty Schemel, who was in Hole from 1992 to 1998, and bassist and backup vocalist Melissa Auf der Maur, who was with the band from 1994 to 1999. Between 1992 and 1999, Hole released their most successful albums, 1994’s Live Through This and 1998’s Celebrity Skin.Love captioned the photo, “Whose rusty af? Ladies !!! #hole #rehearsal # tonight #hollywoodIt’s been over 40 years since Journey’s groundbreaking album “Infinity” introduced Steve Perry as their new lead singer . . . and launched one of the biggest bands in rock history.  They’ve sold over 75 million albums worldwide and were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.  Thanks mostly to Steve Perry’s most famous lyric which is what? …”Whoa Whoas”.

Yesterday it was the deciding Game 5 in the NLDS between the Braves and the Cardinals…and….the Cardinals came out ready to play.  Yes, 10 runs in the first.  It’s the most runs in the first inning by a team in a playoff game.  Wild.  The Braves did end up hitting a home run but the Cardinals end up putting three more on Atlanta and walked away with a 13-1 win.  After the game they had to wait to see who won between the Dodgers and the Nationals as to who they would take on in the NLCS.

And – during that game…the collapse of Clayton Kershaw once again hurt LA.  After being up 3-1 in the 8th, Kershaw on the mound, the Nationals hit two homers and tied things up.  And, after tying the game 3-3 and forcing extras….during the top of the 10th, the Nationals loaded the bases…and then this…. And that was the final.  7-3.  So the Cardinals will host the Washington Nationals in the NLCS.  The series will start at Busch on Friday.  First pitch is scheduled for 7PM.  No starter for either team has been announced yet.

Also after the Cards game…Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann announced that he’s retiring after a 15-year career. The 35-year-old said he’d made the decision about a month and a half ago, telling reporters, “This is it for me. I’m going to go home and be a dad and play with those kids.” The seven-time All-Star played nine seasons with the Braves, then three with the Yankees and two with the Astros, with whom he won the World Series in 2017, before returning to the Braves for this season.

The Astros and Rays will wrap up THEIR ALDS series tonight.  The winner will move on to take on the Yankees.  The game will be in Houston and first pitch is scheduled for 6:07PM.

The St. Louis Blues are in action tonight against the Ottawa Senators.  The Blues coming off of a 3-2 win against the Leafs on Monday.  Puck drop tonight is scheduled for 6:30PM.

The PGA Tour Champions is returning to the St. Louis area next year for the first time in nearly 20 years. The tour announced a four-year deal Tuesday with St. Louis-based Ascension. The Ascension Charity Classic will be held Oct. 2-4 at Norwood Hills Country Club, which hosted the 1948 PGA Championship won by Ben Hogan and the Greater St. Louis Classic on the PGA Tour in 1972 and 1973. The PGA Tour Champions was last in the area from 1996 to 2001 at Boone Valley, west of St. Louis. Bellerive hosted the PGA Championship in 2018 and a FedEx Cup playoff event in 2008.

The Philadelphia Eagles have an October gauntlet no NFL team wants, playing three consecutive games on the road that completes the first half of their schedule. Philadelphia is the only NFL team to play three consecutive road games this season, thanks to the NFL banking on the Phillies reaching the playoffs.  Howard Katz (the league’s senior vice president of broadcasting and operations) said the power of Bryce Harper caused the NFL to rethink their priorities when it comes to the schedule. That really worked in the league’s favor, as the Phillies finished a disappointing 81-81 and fourth place in the NL East. The Phillies missed the playoffs for the eighth consecutive year while the Eagles play three teams on the road that have a combined record of 10-5. The Eagles aren’t the only team over the past several years to have this scheduling disadvantage. The  Ravens,  Rams and  Saints played three consecutive road games last year. The Oakland Raiders technically don’t play three consecutive road games but played last week in London, have a bye in Week 6, then play back-to-back road games at Green Bay and at Houston. They also played Week 3 in Minneapolis and Week 4 at Indianapolis, giving them 48 days between games played in Oakland (the Raiders were the “home” team in London).

Just found this funny…. A reporter released ticket prices for various entertainment options available to sports and non-sports things in the Miami area this weekend.  And for example..a trip to Zoo Miami will set someone back $23.  That is $7 more than it costs to get into Hard  Rock Stadium to see the winless Miami Dolphins take on the winless Washington Redskins.

The NBA on Wednesday canceled scheduled media sessions in China this week for the Nets and Lakers, as well as at least two other planned events in the country, amid the ongoing fallout from Rockets general manager Daryl Morey posting a since-deleted tweet last Friday that showed support for anti-government protesters in Hong Kong. However, Commissioner Adam Silver told the Nets and Lakers that their two planned pre-season games against each other in China this week, one today and one Saturday, are still expected to be played.
