The Los Angeles Zoo received over $75,000 in donations on Monday in recognition of BETTY WHITE’s 100th birthday. Betty had served as an honorary zookeeper and was a donor and board member. The donations were part of the #BettyWhiteChallenge . . . where people gave to local animal shelters, rescues, or other animal-related organizations in honor of Betty and her lifelong work as an animal advocate. Some of the donations came from big companies: Disney donated $25,000 . . . Pink’s Hot Dogs donated $3,000 . . . and Madame Tussauds Hollywood donated their proceeds from a Betty event. The L.A. Zoo has set up a memorial garden of white roses for Betty, along with a self-guided tour of her favorite spots. You can donate to her tribute fund through the end of the month (LINK)
More bad news for ALEC BALDWIN: He’s being sued by the family of RYLEE MCCOLLUM, one of the Marines killed last August during the Afghanistan pullout. It all started when Alec reached out to McCollum’s sister. Through her, he donated $5,000 to McCollum’s widow. But then he saw a picture of the sister at the Washington Monument on January 6th of last year. Alec accused her of being one of the rioters. She claims she was just there to legally protest, adding that she didn’t participate, and didn’t even go to the Capitol. She told Alec she’d been interviewed by the FBI and cleared. Alec wasn’t buying it. He reposted the photo, after which his social media followers started harassing the family. They’re suing him for defamation, negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and more . . . and they want at least $25 million in damages (LINK)
Tell me your thoughts on this thing that happened on Wheel of Fortune. Charlene Rubush lost during a final round and this is how it went down. So she missed out on taking home a $40,000 Audi Q3. Audi actually tweeted that she was still a winner in their eyes. They tracked her down to gift her with the car anyway. And, yes they covered the entire cost … including taxes!!!
Who’s gonna watch the new Hulu series “Pam & Tommy”. Tommy Lee talks to his penis about whether or not he is falling in love with Pamela. The director says it was awkward. “You’ve got four puppeteers working with an animatronic penis. And then, how much is too much, and do you start to lose his emotional torment of what’s going on? Hopefully it works.” The idea came from Tommy’s book “Tommyland”. “Pam & Tommy” debuts on Hulu on February 2nd (LINK)
CARDI B is giving back to the Bronx by partnering with the N.Y.C. Mayor’s Fund to help cover the funeral costs of the victims of a recent fire. On January 9th, 19 people ages 2 to 50 died when an apartment building caught fire. Cardi said, quote, “I’m extremely proud to be from the Bronx and I have lots of family and friends who live and work there still. I cannot begin to imagine the pain and anguish that the families of the victims are experiencing . . .”I hope that not having to worry about the costs associated with burying their loved ones will help as they move forward and heal . . . I send my prayers and condolences to everyone affected by this horrific tragedy.” Mayor Eric Adams said yesterday, quote, “We are grateful for Cardi B, a real superstar on and off the mic, for granting some critical financial relief to families of the victims. The city will be forever thankful to her.” (LINK)
The band I SET MY FRIENDS ON FIRE were more than upset when they saw the When We Were Young Festival lineup and didn’t see themselves on it . . . so they took matters into their own hands. They said, quote, “Fine. See you at the parking lot stage . . . Whatever you guys are paying MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, we’ll do it for half . . . We are going to meme ourselves onto this one way or another.” The band then decided to purchase the domain name WhenWeWereYoungFest.com. Yes, believe it or not, it was available. The band also snagged the Instagram account. And they say Live Nation can have both if they add them to the lineup. The official When We Were Young address is WhenWeWereYoungFestival.com . . . and now organizers are probably kicking themselves for not also grabbing the shortened version. The site confusion is already working as planned, because THE MAINE . . . one of the bands on the bill . . . tweeted out the wrong link (LINK)
Someone famous is trying to start a band….he needs a bass a guitar a drummer. He will sing. Here are some clues…Upon his release, he rekindled the interest in songwriting he had as a young adult and anonymously posted music online. Then, in October of 2020, a federal court ruled that he would be permitted to publicly release and market various forms of art under his own name, including music. He quickly created his own record label — Emporia Records — and a YouTube channel. To date, he has released 26 original songs that embrace a folk/rockabilly type vibe. Another hint…he tried to kill President Reagan back in 1981. John Hinkley Jr wants to hang and write with you. Against Me! frontwoman Laura Jane Grace (LINK) left a response on Hinckley’s Twitter post. “I think you should let me play bass in your band. I’m pretty good and very focused on music,” she said, presumably with a heavy sense of sarcasm.

Lusia Harris, who was the only woman ever officially drafted into the NBA in 1977, died unexpectedly Tuesday. Harris never played a game in the NBA, turning down the opportunity after the New Orleans Jazz selected her in the seventh round of the 1977 NBA draft. It was later revealed she was pregnant at the time. When she was told she had been drafted by the Jazz, she responded: “Drafted by a men’s team?” The three-time All-American at Delta State also was the first woman ever to score a basket at the Olympics, helping the United States win a silver medal at the inaugural women’s tournament in 1976 at the Montreal Games. Harris was the first Black woman inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame in 1992 and was inducted in the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999. She was 66 years old.
Clearly, there is something off with this NFL player. Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Malik McDowell was completely naked while he was being arrested on Monday, Jan. 17 in Florida. He was charged with indecent exposure in public, resisting arrest with violence, and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer. In a video…you can see the 6-foot-6, 290-pound football player naked on the ground as officers tried to arrest him. Cops say McDowell was seen walking around naked near a children’s learning center when they found him. Officers confronted him, and McDowell then attacked the one cop. His attorney said he may have been slipped something or given something that he was unaware of and which could explain the bizarre behavior. The Browns released a statement on Tuesday, saying, “We are aware of the very concerning incident and arrest involving Malik McDowell and are in the process of gathering more information.”

The NCAA announced a new policy yesterday in which eligibility requirements for transgender athletes will be determined by each sport’s national governing body. The new requirements go into effect immediately. The previous policy, adopted in 2010, was uniform across all sports and was based on hormone therapy requirements. The new policy comes at a time when transgender athletes continue to be a focus of national debate. Since 2020, 10 states have enacted laws restricting participation for transgender athletes in school sports, many of which affect collegiate participation at the competitive, club and intramural levels. This winter, University of Pennsylvania swimmer Lia Thomas, who is transgender, recorded the top times in the country in the 200-yard and 500-yard women’s freestyle. Under the NCAA’s new policy, Thomas would need to be in compliance with USA Swimming’s criteria in order to participate at the NCAA championships in March.
