Charles Martinet — who has voiced Mario in dozens of video games — is stepping away from the role. While he won’t be recording any more games, Nintendo announced Martinet will be an “ambassador” for Mario and the games in which he stars. The XFL announced that St. Louis Battlehawks defensive back Elijah Hamilton has signed with the Green Bay Packers and running back Brian Hill has agreed to terms with the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League.
The duo becomes the 13th and 14th players from the Battlehawks roster to be signed, with an overall total of 61 contracts now signed by XFL players this offseason.
Hamilton played in nine games for the Battlehawks and made 13 total tackles, including two for a loss.
The leading rusher for St. Louis, Hill appeared in eight games and carried the ball 88 times for 416 yards and touchdown. He also made 24 catches for an additional 204 yards and a touchdown.
To date, 179 invitations have been sent to XFL players for camps or to hold individual workouts with NFL teams since the conclusion of the XFL regular season.
The St. Louis Battlehawks retain the rights to Hamilton and Hill should either player return to the XFL.
The PGA Tour said Monday that it has not seen an uptick in spectators attempting to distract golfers — potentially for betting purposes — since legal sports gambling began spreading around the nation.
