I always thought I would make a good late night talk show host. I am glad I didn’t chase that dream now. Because they all have Covid. JAMES CORDEN announced yesterday afternoon that he tested positive for Covid-19. Quote, “I’m fully vaccinated, boosted and because of this am fortunate enough to say I feel completely fine . . . Stay safe everyone.” James also said “The Late Late Show” will be off the air for the next few days.  A return date has not been announced.  He is now the third late night show host to catch it in recent weeks.  First was JIMMY FALLON, then SETH MEYERS (LINK)

BETTY WHITE is being honored as the “Amazing Woman of the Month” by the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore, and all troops across the country are invited to earn a Betty White patch. She was announced back in December as the icon for January, but since her passing, there have been more than 1,300 sign ups. The program will allow them to build a pretend TV, create a game show, advocate for animals, and learn TO get along with others. The Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore will also host a Celebration of Life Zoom call for participants.  Sign-ups are still open and it costs $10. Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, Eleanor Roosevelt, and former Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

We’ve had three movie Spider-Men so far:  TOBEY MAGUIRE, ANDREW GARFIELD, and TOM HOLLAND.  So which one of them made the most money PLAYING Spider-Man? You’d think it would be Holland, since he’s played him in some of the most successful movies of all time, including the last two “Avengers” movies and “Spider-Man: No Way Home”.  But that might not be the case. One website did some VERY unofficial calculations, and they claim it’s Tobey by a MILE.  Here’s how they broke it down: Tom Holland made a reported $250,000 for his first appearance as “Spider-Man”, in “Captain America: Civil War”.  For “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, he got $1.5 million in salary and bonuses. He was RUMORED to have made $4 million for “Spider-Man: Far From Home”.  But there’s no word what he made . . . or might still be making . . . for “No Way Home”.  The website also doesn’t say what he made for the “Avengers” movies. Andrew Garfield easily gets the short end of the stick.  He reportedly made $500,000 for his first Spider-Man movie, and $1 million for the second.  There was never a third.  Also, it’s not clear if he earned any bonuses on top of his salary. It seems likely that Tobey Maguire is the all-time champ, though.  Right out of the gate, he made $4 million for 2002’s “Spider-Man”.  For the sequel, he got a SALARY of $17.5 million, plus five percent of the profits. And for “Spider-Man 3”, his salary was $15 million, but his percentage was 7.5%.  If these numbers are legit, Tobey made $36.5 million in salary alone, plus whatever his cut of the profits was (LINK)

One of the cool things about “Cobra Kai” is the music.  There’s been Motley Crue . . .Poison . . . Ratt . . . even DEE SNIDER has done a cameo.  But you know who hasn’t been on the soundtrack?  AC/DC. Series creator Jon Hurwitz said AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” has been written into the script multiple times.  Only problem is . . . they’ve never been able to afford it. Quote, “A lot of times we write things into the script, but sometimes we’ll write something into the script that we can’t afford.  Our fantasy is having the music budget to have nonstop AC/DC and Bon Jovi and Guns N’ Roses.”  (LINK)

DRE is scheduled to do the Super Bowl Halftime Show with Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary J. Blige.  But if the show gets canceled due to COVID, he’s out MILLIONS of dollars. Dre is reportedly putting up most of the money for the show himself.  And he DOES have event cancellation insurance.  But there’s a catch. Ever since the SARS outbreak of the early 2000s, insurance companies have been building “communicable disease exceptions” into their policies. So basically, the ONE THING that could lead to the cancellation of the show at this point is the ONE THING he’s not insured for. Not that he doesn’t have millions to spare, but he did just shell out $100 million in his divorce settlement.  So he probably wouldn’t be happy with another huge loss. If cases continue to rise, crowds could be scaled back or even eliminated, but the game will go on. The other possibility, the NFL has made it clear it wants fans in the stands, and if that can’t happen at L.A.’s SoFi Stadium, the game could be moved to say, Dallas. The Super Bowl is set for February 13th (LINK

It’s been a while since we’ve talked about TAYLOR SWIFT dominating the country charts, but here we go.  Her albums have now spent 99 weeks at #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, and that’s the most in history. She passed SHANIA TWAIN whose albums have spent 97 weeks at the top of that chart. A reason this happened now is because Taylor came BACK to the country charts with her re-recordings of “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” and “Red (Taylor’s Version)”. Taylor’s “1989”, “Reputation”, “Lover”, and “Folklore”, and “Evermore” are considered pop albums.

Sports Report 1

Tonight the Blues are at Enterprise Center as they take on the Washington Capitals.  Now, there is some not so great news for the team….Vladimir Tarasenko, Scott Perunovich, and Jake Walman have all entered COVID protocols.  So were looking at least a couple of games without those three.  So if you are keeping track, that means that Craig Berube has had a total of ONE game with a group of fully healthy forwards.  Puck drop is scheduled for 7PM.

Antonio Brown is officially off of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The football team cut brown from the roster on Thursday.  Brown left the field in the middle of Tampa’s game against the New York Jets last Sunday.  In a statement, the Bucs said, “While Antonio did receive treatment on his ankle and was listed on the injury report the week leading up to last Sunday’s game, he was cleared to play by our medical team prior to the start of the game and at no point during the game did he indicate to our medical personnel that he could not play.” Brown released a statement and text messages between himself and the team showing that he felt his ankle wasn’t in the best condition for him to play.

Just a couple weeks ago, the Jacksonville Jaguars gave former head coach Urban Meyer the boot. The Jaguars are currently sitting in last place in the AFC South and have an overall record of 2-14.  And even with the #1 overall draft pick in Trevor Lawrence at quarterback it’s been a disappointing season. Since Urban’s firing, Jags owner Shad Khan has voiced his continued support for their GM. Jags fans have never loved him as a GM, and want him gone.  Fans are planning to get his attention and show their displeasure with the organization by dressing up as clown’s for Sunday’s game, which they’ve dubbed a “clown party.” Jags quarterback Trevor Lawrence was asked on Wednesday about his thoughts on fans attending in clown suits to take aim at owner Shad Khan. Lawrence said he understood why fans were planning the event, noting “I get the frustration.” The Jaguars are taking on the 9-7 Indianapolis Colts this Sunday.

Former Washington and Denver running back Clinton Portis has been sentenced to six months in federal prison and six months of home confinement for his part in defrauding a health care benefit program for retired NFL veterans. Portis, 40, pleaded guilty to fraud in September following charges that he obtained nearly $100,000 after filing false claims for medical equipment that was not provided. Portis was part of a ring of former players who filed false reimbursement claims totaling about $2.9 million. In 2006, the NFL established the Gene Upshaw NFL Player Health Reimbursement Account Plan, designed to help retired players pay for medical expenses. The account provides up to $350,000 in benefits per player. Fifteen former players have pleaded guilty to charges.

The USFL on Thursday announced the hiring of its first four head coaches — Todd Haley, Kevin Sumlin, Mike Riley and Bart Andrus — with play scheduled to start this spring. The league will have eight teams, with 10-game regular-season schedules running from April 16 through mid-June. Haley, a former NFL head coach with the Kansas City Chiefs, will coach the Tampa Bay Bandits. Sumlin will head to Houston to coach the Gamblers. Riley, the former head coach of the Chargers from 1999 to 2001, has been hired by the New Jersey Generals. Andrus will lead the Philadelphia Stars. The league said the remaining four head coaches — for the Michigan Panthers, Pittsburgh Maulers, Birmingham Stallions and New Orleans Breakers — would be announced at a later date.

The first time that Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19, the NBA didn’t even have health and safety protocols. It shut down the league instead. This time, the Jazz center might miss just a few days. Gobert has tested positive for COVID-19 and was placed on the virus-related protocols list — something that didn’t even exist when he tested positive for the virus on March 11, 2020, the night that professional sports pretty much shut down. He has been ruled out for Utah’s game tonight in Toronto. It is not clear how long he will be sidelined; typically, even with shorter return-to-play rules in place now than what had been the case earlier this season, most players who enter the protocols are out for at least a week.

The New York Times is buying sports news site The Athletic for $550 million, the latest move in its strategy to expand its audience of paying subscribers as the newspaper print ads business fades. The Times, unlike many local news outlets, has thrived in the past several years. It gained millions of subscribers during the Trump presidency and the pandemic. It’s one of the Times’ largest-ever acquisitions. The company spent $1.1 billion on the Boston Globe in 1993 and $410 million for About.com in 2005, both of which it later sold for less.

Thirteen-time NBA All-Star Dwyane Wade announced that he is joining the ownership group of MLS’s Real Salt Lake. Wade becomes the latest current or former NBA player involved in MLS ownership, joining the likes of James Harden (Houston Dynamo), Steve Nash (Vancouver Whitecaps), Kevin Durant (Philadelphia Union) and Magic Johnson (LAFC).
