A minor league baseball team in Iowa did a fireworks show on Sunday.  Then one of the guys who ran it was driving home when leftover supplies in his car caught fire (link).  He made it out, but his car burned up.  Firefighters noted his vanity plate said “PYROBOB.”

A guy with an active warrant in Missouri got arrested after he was caught shooting fireworks at a Taco Bell (link).

An ice cream man (link) in northern California was caught selling fireworks out of his truck instead of selling ice cream.

Last week, a huge stash of illegal fireworks caused a bomb squad truck to EXPLODE in L.A.  Now the guy who owned all the stuff is facing federal charges.  It turns out he was storing 32,000 pounds of fireworks (link) in his backyard.

Four people in Toledo, Ohio were injured when a whole U-Haul full of fireworks (video) went up Sunday night.  One report we saw said teenagers started a fire in the back of the U-Haul on purpose

Director Richard Donner (LINK) — one of the most famed and prolific directors of all time, known for flicks like “Superman,” “Lethal Weapon,” “The Goonies” and countless others — has reportedly died. He turned 91 in April. No word on when exactly he passed, or under what circumstances. Donner got his first big directing break with the cult classic horror film “The Omen” (the original one), that led to his next major studio film, “Superman” (also the original) … and then ‘Goonies,’ and ALL of the “Lethal Weapon” movies, starring Mel Gibson (LINK) and Danny Glover (LINK). “Scrooged,” “The Toy,” “Maverick,” “Ladyhawke,” “Assassins,” “16 Blocks,” “Timeline” and more. His EP credits are even more impressive.  Films like “The Lost Boys,” “Free Willy,” “X-Men” … this list goes on. Crazy that just last year, he announced a desire to direct the 5th installment of “Lethal Weapon,” which seemed to be moving along.

GWEN STEFANI and BLAKE SHELTON got married Saturday at Blake’s estate in Oklahoma . . . where he built an actual chapel for the occasion. There’s no word how many people were there, but it seems like the guest list was pretty small.  The ceremony was officiated (LINK) by CARSON DALY, the host of “The Voice”. Their first dance was to PETER GABRIEL’s “In Your Eyes”. They got together in 2015, after meeting when they were both doing “The Voice”.  Blake proposed last October.

Mary Jane and Peter Parker are together in real life guys. Its like movie magic.  ZENDAYA and TOM HOLLAND are a couple! They were photographed in L.A. last Friday having a quick makeout session in Tom’s Audi. They were also seen hanging out with Zendaya’s mom in Silver Lake . . . so I guess you could say things are getting pretty serious. Their third movie together, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” comes out December 17th.

Bruce Springsteen’s 29-year-old daughter is heading to Tokyo for the Olympics as part of the U.S. equestrian team’s jump squad. Jessica Springsteen and her horse, Don Juan van de Donkehoeve, qualified for one of four spots on the jump squad. Springsteen was an Olympic alternate in 2012.  This will be her first Olympics after just missing a spot on the 2016 team. The boss’ daughter is ranked #3 on the US Equestrian Rider List. The US equestrian team will compete in Tokyo beginning August 3rd.

MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY released a typically Matthew McConaughey-esque video (LINK), wishing America a happy 245th birthday

New Orleans wasn’t going to have a 4th of July fireworks display this year due to lack of funds.  But when WILL SMITH found out, he couldn’t let It stand.  Will donated $100,000 so the city could have its fireworks. It wasn’t just a random gesture.  Will is in New Orleans filming a runaway slave thriller called “Emancipation”.  It was originally supposed to film in Georgia, but director ANTOINE FUQUA moved it after Georgia passed a law that will allegedly lead to voter suppression.

MARK ZUCKERBERG tried to be just like the rest of us by riding a hydrofoil surfboard, which probably cost around $20,000 . . . while holding an American flag . . . to the tune of John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads”.  You know, like we all did this weekend. Twitter was NOT interested (LINK).  Even JOHN CUSACK got into the act, Tweeting (LINK), quote, “The flag as a symbol of the right for oligarchs not to pay tax.”

HENRY WINKLER’s 4th of July Tweet may have been a little off the rails. He said, quote, “We are So divided as a country . . . only a cataclysmic event that makes us depend on one another again can bring us back together.” Besides the fact that we shouldn’t be WISHING for a cataclysmic event in the first place . . . chances are that most people on the planet think we’re STILL recovering from one. Someone even reminded Henry that, quote, “We just had a cataclysmic event.  It didn’t work.” He replied (LINK), quote, “The Pandemic pushed the world inside creating a world apart.” So apparently, Henry is out there in the world right now, hoping for an event even more cataclysmic than a worldwide pandemic?  NOT COOL.

PETE DAVIDSON is currently in the painful process of removing ALL of his tattoos.  He was told it’ll take two more years . . . leaving him tattoo-less just in time for his 30th birthday. He also added that it’s a bit embarrassing because of some questionable designs he chose when he was younger, and it takes each session about a month to heal. Pete teamed up with smartwater for their first ever “Rehydration Day”, which was yesterday encouraging people to rehydrate after the holiday weekend. In the campaign commerciaL (LINK), he joked that his bad decisions could have been caused by dehydration.

The crap between Ice Cube and Warner Brothers over the Friday franchise continues.  Ice Cube wants Warner Bros., to surrender its rights to the ‘Friday’ property and to two other movies he made there — ‘All About the Benjamins’ and ‘The Players Club.’ Warner Bros. replied, calling the demand ‘extortionate’ and saying it won’t release rights to the valuable franchise or any other Ice Cube movies.” Cube and Warner started developing the fourth movie in the franchise, Last Friday, back in 2012. Sources said that Warner had a problem with the script’s first draft because it was set in prison. Warner didn’t think prison was funny.  In letters written to Warner Brothers, Ice Cube and his team allegedly accused the studio of discrimination by not properly funding any of his movies. Warner disputes those claims.

Ever wonder what it would sound like if Drowning Pool’s “Bodies (Hit the Floor)” was turned into a kid’s song?  Wonder no more (LINK).

In case you missed it, last week Tom Petty’s estate released a new song.  Check out “105 Degrees (LINK)“.

The Cards took on the Giants yesterday and picked up the big 5-3 win.  This after a pretty crappy series against the Rockies started off July much like June ended.  However – the Cards look to  continue the wins with another game against San Francisco tonight.  Adam Wainwright takes the mound and first pitch is scheduled for 8:45PM.

Also over the weekend – it was announced that joining Nolan Arenado at the 2021 All-Star Game….Alex Reyes has received all-star honors as well.  It’s Reyes first all star honors.

The Montreal Canadiens survive another day.  It took an extra period of hockey but the Canadiens scored in OT last night to get the 3-2 win in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final.  The Lightning still last the series 3 games to 1 and look to close things out tomorrow night in Tampa.

Game 1 of the NBA finals is tonight.  The Phoenix Suns host the Milwaukee Bucks at 8PM.  As far as Giannis – he’s back on the court doing some light practice but he is officially listed as doubtful for tonight’s game.  Tip-off is scheduled for 8PM.

Capital One’s The Match kicks off tonight at 4PM in Big Sky Montana.  The Match puts Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady against Bryson DeChambeau and Aaron Rodgers.  It’s a fun little match for charity.  Charles Barkely, Larry Fitzgerald and others will be on the broadcast team.  People are saying Bryson and Rodgers are the favorites simply because Rodgers is a MUCH better golfer than Brady.  It’s a modified alternate shot format with on-course wagers being encouraged.  Also – there is a one-club challenge hole, a closest to the pin, and a long drive competition on a par-5 that is 777 yards.

A medical examiner in Michigan said an autopsy has determined that Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Matiss Kivlenieks died of chest trauma from an errant fireworks mortar blast and not a fall, as authorities previously reported. Police in Michigan said the mortar-style firework tilted slightly and started to fire toward people nearby Sunday night. The 24-year-old Kivlenieks was in a hot tub and tried to get clear with several other people. The initial autopsy determined Kivlenieks died from a percussive injury caused by the powerful blast from the fireworks, which triggered major damage to his heart and lungs. Meier said the fire department and EMTs arrived at a private home at 10:13 p.m. local time on Sunday. Responders took 4 minutes and 38 seconds to arrive after receiving a 911 call. Kivlenieks was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Shohei Ohtani plans to be both a pitcher and a hitter in his first All-Star Game next week. Joe Maddon said Monday that he has spoken with American League manager Kevin Cash and given his encouragement to showcase all his skills on July 13 at Coors Field. Maddon said Ohtani wants to play both ways in Denver and that Cash is on board with the plan. The current Rays manager just hasn’t figured out when Ohtani will pitch. This past weekend, Ohtani — who leads the majors in homers — became the first player in major league history to be selected for an All-Star Game as both a hitter and a pitcher. The fans elected him to the game at the plate, and he received the honor as a pitcher in the final team announcement Sunday.

Jaguars quarterback and No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence signed his four-year rookie contract Monday. Under the NFL’s rookie slotting system, Lawrence’s deal was projected to be worth $36.8 million and included a $24.1 million signing bonus.  Also some things of note about his deal…Lawrence’s signing bonus will be paid within 15 days. There is no offset language in the contract, meaning that he would still receive the full amount of guaranteed money remaining in his contract even if he were to be released and sign with another team. The majority of Lawrence’s compensation will come in his roster bonuses in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Lawrence will earn his roster bonus even if he is on the active non-football injury list. He is expected to start this season as he went 34-2 at Clemson (LINK), recording the third-best winning percentage by a starting quarterback in college football since 1978

Jessica Springsteen, the daughter of legendary musician Bruce Springsteen, is heading to Tokyo. The 29-year-old was named to the U.S. Olympic equestrian team as one of the four riders set to compete. One rider will be designated as a traveling reserve.  Springsteen and her horse Don Juan van de Donkehoeve were selected along with teammates Kent Farrington, Laura Kraut and McLain Ward. Brian Moggre and Lucy Deslauriers will be reserves.  This will be her first Olympics after failing to be named to the 2016 team when her horse dealt with leg issues for several months.
