The movie Amityville Horror you guys have heard of. Do you know what it’s about? In 1974, a man named RONALD DEFEO shot and killed his parents and his four siblings as they slept in their beds.  He claimed that voices in the house told him to do it. George and Kathy Lutz moved into the house a year later, and moved out again in less than a month . . . claiming they witnessed all kinds of hostile paranormal activity. Their book “The Amityville Horror” was a huge success when it came out in 1976.  It was made into a movie with James Brolin and Margot Kidder in 1979 . . . and remade in 2005 with Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George. Ronald had been in prison ever since, but he just died on Friday.  He was 69.

Are we done watching celebrities show how great they are? Sunday’s “Grammys” scored 8.8 million viewers . . . about HALF the number of people who tuned in last year.

WOLFGANG VAN HALEN was asked to play “Eruption” as a tribute to his dad Eddie during the In Memoriam segment of the “Grammys”, but he said no thank and later went to social media to post “I don’t think anyone could have lived up to what my father did for music but himself.” Then he went on to say they didn’t do enough of a tribute… “for 15 seconds in the middle of four full performances for others we had lost.” He added, quote, “What hurt the most was that he wasn’t even mentioned when they talked about artists we lost in the beginning of the show.” And he wants to speak to the Recording Academy about, quote, “the legacy of my father [and] the legacy of the Rock genre moving forward.” At the same time, he doesn’t think his father would have cared about ANY of this.  Quote, “I know Pop would probably just laugh it off and say ‘Ehh who gives a [crap]?’  He was only about the music anyway.  The rest didn’t matter.”

Also, fans of Naya Rivera are upset she was left out of the Grammy’s “In Memoriam” segment.  Even though she’s better known as an actress, she was nominated for two Grammys during her time on “Glee”.

The Academy announced the Oscar nominees yesterday, and Netflix’s “Mank” led the way with 10 nominations.

As far as snubs…Regina King no Best Director nomination for her critically acclaimed film, “One Night In Miami.” The movie was also left out of Best Picture conversation.

Jodie Foster won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in “The Mauritanian.” She didn’t get the same love from the Oscars.

Delroy Lindo had some chatter for “Da 5 Bloods.” Neither Lindo nor the movie got a nomination.

“Da 5 Bloods” director Spike Lee was shut out of the Best Director category. And although Chadwick Boseman got a Best Actor nod for “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” he did not get Best Supporting Actor love for the film.

Tom Hanks couldn’t pull in a nomination for his role in “Greyhound” or “News of the World.”

Jared Leto’s performance in “The Little Things” received SAG Award and Golden Globe nominations for Best Supporting Actor. No such thing for the Oscars.

“The 93rd Academy Awards” will air April 25th on ABC.

There’s no word on a host, but the last two years haven’t had one, so they might go that route again.

So I decided to do a real quick search. On March 2nd of 1998 the film “Titanic” became the first ever movie to earn 1 billion US dollars at the box office. It was massive. It got 14 Oscar nominations and won 11 But none for acting. Kate Winslet, was nominated for her Rose, as was the 87-year-old Gloria Stuart, who played Rose in old age. But neither of them won an Oscar.

Paramount+ and MTV are bring back Behind the Music. They gave us a little teaser trailer. Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Huey Lewis and LL Cool J will be the first in the series, which will stream exclusively on Paramount+. The exact start of the series is TBA  There will be new episodes and the best of the vault remastered and updated with artist interviews. Also coming Yo! MTV Raps and MTV Unplugged, plus From Cradle to Stage, a new unscripted title from director Dave Grohl and his mother, Virginia Hanlon Grohl.

WILL FORTE is starring in a drama for the Peacock streaming service called “Expiration Date”. It’s about a guy who’s consumed by grief and finds an insurance policy that covers suicide.  The only condition is you have to wait a year before you kill yourself.  So he has to figure out how to spend his last year. A nonprofit mental health organization called Inseparable is NOT down with this . . . even though they haven’t seen the show and have no idea how it will deal with the main character’s depression, or mental health in general. A spokesman says, quote, “What a wildly irresponsible and callous concept that will, no doubt, endanger countless viewers.  Glamorizing suicide leads to contagion, that is a fact” . . . “NBCUniversal would do well to rethink such a dangerous idea that could lead to an increase in suicide among viewers.  This show shouldn’t air, period.”

“Punky Brewster” superstar SOLEIL MOON FRYE has a new documentary on Hulu called “Kid 90”.  It’s all about her life as a teenager in the ’90s, and it includes journal entries from that time, and camcorder video she took. In the film, Soleil reveals that her first consensual sex partner was CHARLIE SHEEN. Here is Charlie’s comment on that.  She even calls him her “Mr. Big” . . . a nod to Carrie Bradshaw’s love interest in “Sex and the City”. It was 1994, and she was 18 at the time.  She’s 44 now.  Charlie would have been 29.

An industry that took a billion dollar loss in 2020 was the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. We all weren’t leaving our homes. Brad Paisley is going to help with an online event. Brad will be throwing a virtual concert on March 31st to raise money for more than 240 Zoos and Aquariums. Yesterday the Blues were SUPPOSED to take on the Kings in LA.  However – because the Kings were trying to fly out of Colorado and the blizzard there kept them snowed in, the game last night has been postponed.  So, the Kings and Blues will meet on Wednesday.  Some other exciting news for the Blues?  Tyler Bozak returns to the team on Wednesday.  Bozak has been out since January 26th when he was knocked out of action from Mark Stone from Vegas.

The Cardinals won yesterday 4-2 against the Nationals.  They are back on the field tomorrow as they take on the Astros.  First pitch is scheduled for 5:05PM and no word on who will start for the Cardinals or the Astros.

Rob Gronkowski is coming back in 2021 — the superstar tight end has re-signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a deal worth up to $10 million!  Gronk wasted no time with free agency kicking off this week … agreeing to a 1-year, $10 million dollar deal on Monday. Rob was solid in 2020 — his first season back since leaving the game in 2018 — putting up more than 600 yards and 7 TDs.

Veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has reached agreement with the Washington Football Team on a one-year deal worth $10 million that could grow to $12 million with incentives. Fitzpatrick is expected to head to camp as the starter, with competition from Taylor Heinicke and Kyle Allen. Washington knew it would struggle to add a long-term solution at quarterback this offseason, but it also realizes it can contend for another NFC East title. Fitzpatrick provides the team with someone who can play at a solid level for a less-expensive contract, allowing WFT to build the rest of its roster on offense.

The Saints will bring back quarterback Jameis Winston in 2021 on a one-year deal worth up to $12 million. Winston attempted just 11 regular-season passes for the Saints last season, though he did throw a touchdown in New Orleans’s divisional round loss to the Buccaneers. He played the first five years of his career with Tampa, throwing 121 touchdowns and 88 interceptions in 70 starts. Winston led the NFL in passing yards and interceptions in 2019, his last season with the Bucs.

Drew Brees isn’t saying goodbye to football just yet. After announcing his retirement from the NFL over the weekend, the 42-year-old quarterback revealed that he has his next gig already lined up: he’s joining NBC Sports as a football analyst. He said: “I’m part of the team now. A new team. I’m excited about that journey, I’m excited to stay very closely connected with the game of football.” Brees, who shares four children with his wife, Brittany, has been with the New Orleans Saints for 15 years. Before that, he played for the San Diego Chargers, the team that originally drafted him out of Purdue in 2001.Multiple referees have been sent home from the NCAA men’s basketball tournament’s controlled environment in Indianapolis due to a positive COVID-19 test and contact tracing, the NCAA said in a statement Monday night. Per the NCAA, one official tested positive on Monday and had interacted with five other officials. All six were sent home. Four of the refs have been replaced from a pool of reserves; two won’t be replaced.

The UFC will be running its first show in front of a full crowd in more than a year. And the promotion will do so with a huge main event. Kamaru Usman will defend his UFC welterweight title in a rematch against Jorge Masvidal in the headliner of UFC 261 on April 24 in Jacksonville, Florida.  White said the event will have a full crowd of about 15,000 fans — the first time the UFC has done a card with no capacity limit since the start of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020.

The Louisville Cardinals aren’t holding their breath waiting for the call for their team to replace another unable to play in the NCAA Tournament because of COVID issues. Mindful that a school simply needs five healthy players to remain eligible for the 68-team field, the Cardinals, the first alternate, don’t feel like they will be getting a call. Meanwhile, fellow potential replacement squads Colorado State, SLU and Mississippi are preparing to play in the 16-team NIT that begins Wednesday in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

And finally — The NCAA women’s basketball tournament bracket was released Monday, just two hours after the news that UConn coach Geno Auriemma tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, is in isolation and will not be able to rejoin the Huskies until at least March 24. The first round of the NCAA tournament begins March 21 in San Antonio, and No. 1 seed UConn is scheduled to play No. 16 High Point on that day. Provided the Huskies advance, their second-round game would be March 23, so UConn would have to get to at least the Sweet 16 without their head coach.  The other number 1 seeds?  Stanford, NC State, and South Carolina.
