Loretta Lynn died yesterday. Her family released this statement: “Our precious mom passed away peacefully this morning, October 4th, in her sleep at home at her beloved ranch in Hurricane Mills.” The world knew her as the “Coal Miner’s Daughter”. It was the title of her signature song . . . her autobiography . . . and a 1980 movie that was based on the book. Loretta’s musical career started in the late ’50s. She did NOT shy away from social issues. Here’s a fact that still surprises us. In 1972, Loretta became the FIRST female to win the CMA Entertainer of Year Award. Her career slowed down in the ’80s and ’90s, but she came roaring back in 2004 with her album, “Van Lear Rose”. It was produced by Jack White, and it won them Grammys for Best Country Album and Best Country Collaboration. Her final album came out last year. In all, Loretta has had 24 Number One singles, and 11 Number One albums. She was 90 years old.
“People” magazine says that Gisele Bundchen has hired a divorce lawyer, and Tom Brady is, quote, “trying to figure out what to do” . . . while also looking for his own attorney. There’s still no official word if their troubles have anything to do with Tom returning to the NFL after a 40-day retirement. But one source says, quote, “They decided together that [Brady] would retire, and then he decided by himself that he’d come back . . . She’s a very ‘pros vs. cons’ person, and she sees very few pros to him playing anymore.” Tom and Gisele have two kids, 12-year-old Benjamin and 9-year-old Vivian. Tom also has a 15-year-old son named John with actress Bridget Moynahan. But at least somebody’s having fun with this. Antonio Brown trolled Tom HARD by posting a photo of himself hugging Gisele. As for Gisele’s future, the Internet has already decided that Pete Davidson’s got next. And the timing is right. It looks like he got his “My girl is a lawyer” tattoo removed.
Angelina Jolie dropped some more abuse allegations against Brad Pitt. They were contained in new court papers filed in the dispute over their French winery. The new accusations allegedly occurred on that plane ride that took place just days before Angelina filed for divorce in 2016. Angelina says Brad, quote, “choked one of the children and struck another in the face.” He also “grabbed Jolie by the head and shook her.” Angelina says Brad poured beer on her, and poured beer and red wine on the kids. At one point during the chaos, Angelina says she jumped on Brad’s back to stop him, and he, quote, “threw himself backwards into the airplane’s seats, injuring Jolie’s back and elbow.” And she says, quote, “Some of the children pleaded with Pitt to stop. They were all frightened. Many were crying.” Federal authorities did investigate this incident, but declined to press charges.
Here’s one mystery solved: Velma from “Scooby-Doo” is a lesbian. Well, at least in a new animated movie called “Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!”. In clips, you can see she has an over-the-top smitten reaction to a villainous costume designer named Coco Diablo. She even blushes and her glasses fog up. Now this isn’t exactly NEW news. It’s never been said if the original writers meant for her to be gay (probably not), but there have been fan theories for ages. Director James Gunn previously said he wanted to make her gay in the live-action movies. And the producer on the “Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated” series confirmed a few years ago that their version was. “Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!” hit streaming yesterday
Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan have been friends since they made “Freaky Friday” two decades ago. And they’ve stayed in touch all this time. But they have a secret code for when one of them texts the other . . . so they know it’s the real deal who’s trying to contact them. And Jamie Lee just gave out a clue that could potentially help you break it. She said, quote, “When she texts me, she’ll say, ‘Hey, Jamie, it’s Lindsay,’ I’ll be like, ‘Prove it. Here’s our proving it: I say, ‘What was the song that we both tried to learn the rap to when sitting in the car for an entire day together?’ If she answers correctly, then I know it’s Lindsay. If it’s somebody fishing, pretending to be Lindsay, they won’t know that answer.” Now, according to the all-knowing gods at Wikipedia, “Freaky Friday” was shot from October to December of 2002. If it’s a hot, new song Lindsay and Jamie Lee were trying to learn, the most obvious guess would be “Lose Yourself” by Eminem, which came out that October. So if you happen to come across Jamie Lee’s digits, and you have enough of a rasp in your voice to do a decent Lindsay, you might want to give this a shot. One last note, though: Jamie Lee’s specific words were, “What was the song that we both tried to learn the rap to.” So it sounds like it could be a pop or R&B song with a rap in it, like TLC’s “Waterfalls” or something. So maybe this is harder than it seems.
Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker have been married since May, but they still don’t live together. Kourtney says, quote, “We’re in the place where we’re figuring out how to blend our households and our kids, and what life looks like now. For the most part we’re getting those things in place. “We do family dinner every Sunday night with all the kids at his house.” Kourtney said they’re not putting any pressure on themselves to combine their homes, but they will eventually. Quote, “We want our kids to feel really comfortable. They have both lived in their homes their whole lives for the most part, and just, they each have their rooms. We are a block away.”

Paris says she’s dying without Diamond Baby, but hasn’t lost her faith that the two will be reunited again. Paris shared that she’s spoken to some incredible mediums and pet communicators who say Diamond Baby is safe where she’s at, so Paris just wants to spread the word to bring her home. An email has been set up for anyone who might find Diamond Baby to reach out at finddiamondbaby@gmail.com. She’s offering a $10,000 reward.
Edie Falco understands why Pete Davidson is so popular with the ladies. She’s playing his mom on the upcoming Peacock series, “Bupkis”, so she got to know him really well. Edie said you fall in love with him the second you meet him because he’s so loveable and genuine. Quote, “There is something so endearingly vulnerable and out there [about him]. He doesn’t play games. He doesn’t try to keep up an image beyond what he cops to. The second you meet him, you just want to hug him.”
Ryan Murphy’s Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is breaking new records. In its second week on the Netflix Top 10 chart, the series has become Netflix’s ninth most popular English-language TV show of all time. Netflix measures overall popularity by counting hours viewed in a title’s first 28 days on the streamer. After 12 days alone, “Monster” has been viewed for 496.1 million hours — and it still has 16 more days to climb even higher on the chart. At least 56 million households have consumed all 10 episodes (approximately 8.8 hours total) of the limited series thus far.
The “Frasier” sequel is officially a go, TheWrap has learned. Kelsey Grammer will return to his signature sitcom character as well as executive produce the series at Paramount+, which just greenlit the multicam comedy. The creative plan for the series follows Frasier Crane’s next chapter in a different city. Former cast are not expected to be series regulars but could end up appearing in guest roles. Additionally, no casting has been set as the writers room has yet to open.
Ice Cube has revealed he submitted two scripts for the fourth film in his comedy franchise Friday, but that both were rejected by the studio. Cube criticized Warner Brothers for not supporting the culture. “I’m trying to get it out of Warner Brothers, they don’t believe in the culture. I had two scripts. I wrote one; it was the ish. They was like, ‘Yo, we don’t want Craig and Day-Day in jail, ’cause Craig and Day-Day went to jail for selling weed before it was legal!” He continued: “Then after they rejected it they had all these movies about going to jail: Orange Is The New Black … Get Hard. So then I wrote another script, and the script was really about … the youngsters in the hood having beef with the OG’s in the hood and Craig has to come back and squash that because Smokey’s son is the new Deebo and he’s wylin! They tripped on it man, they messed around and then John Witherspoon passed. Then Deebo passed … they just effed it up.” A fourth entry in the franchise has been rumored for a while now, tentatively titled Last Friday, but Cube has admitted numerous incidents (LINK), including all the aforementioned cast members passing away, have prevented him from finishing it. We were tryin’ to make that movie for years and we couldn’t get it done. We got the other three and we got our memories.”
With Daniel Craig officially retired as James Bond, speculation continues about who will take his place as 007. One Bond producer says he isn’t in a hurry to pick a replacement, but he did give a few clues. In a conversation with DEADLINE, Wilson said, “We’ve tried looking at younger people in the past. But trying to visualize it doesn’t work. Remember, Bond’s already a veteran. He’s had some experience. He’s a person who has been through the wars, so to speak.” Wilson continued, “He isn’t some kid out of high school that you can bring in and start off. That’s why it works for a thirty-something.”

Rage Against the Machine announced yesterday that their 2023 tour is canceled. Singer Zack de la Rocha needs more time to heal and recuperate from an injury that happened in July. Zack said in a statement, quote, “I have a severe tear in my left Achilles tendon and only 8% of my tendon was left intact. And even that was severely compromised . . .”It’s not simply a question of being able to perform again, but extends to basic functionality going forward. You have all waited so patiently to see us and that is never lost on me. I never take that for granted. For you I have the ultimate gratitude and respect.” If you bought tickets from Ticketmaster or AXS, you’ll be refunded within 30 days or so.
Coldplay has been forced to cancel several dates in Brazil, because Chris Martin is apparently really sick. The band issued a statement saying he’s suffering from a, quote, “serious lung infection,” and is under strict doctor’s orders to rest for the next three weeks. Aaron Judge hit his 62nd home run of the season last night, breaking Roger Maris’ American league record. Here’s the radio call (LINK) from John Sterling on WFAN, mixed with music from “The Natural”.
Of Note: The ball could be worth hundreds of thousands, or more, but the fan who caught it (LINK), Corey Youmans, may not need the money. He’s a vice president at Fisher Investments, which manages $197 billion worldwide. On his way to the 62 home run record, was Aaron Judge looking at the schedule, counting the games, feeling the pressure? Here’s what he said after last night’s game.
- Aaron Judge is the American League’s single-season home run leader.
- The Yankees’ star hit his 62nd home run on Tuesday night, beating Roger Maris’s long-standing record.
- Judge set the mark in the first inning of the Yankees game against the Texas Rangers. He got the blast with only one more game left in the regular season.
- Aaron has set the American League mark. Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, and Sammy Sosa set higher numbers in the National League.
All-Star closer Ryan Helsley got five pitches into his scheduled appearance Tuesday night at PNC Park before having to field a ball hit back at him and avoid the shards of a bat he split. He placed his right hand on the ground to keep his balance, and at some point in that series of events appeared to jam a finger on his pitching hand. He was unable to continue, and the Cardinals’ initial diagnosis was a jammed middle finger on his right hand. A team official said Helsley was removed out of a sense of “precaution,” and the right-hander would be reevaluated late Tuesday. Rookie Zack Thompson froze the score and bought time for the Cardinals to win in extra innings. Pujols did add two more RBI’s to his tally. Cards beat the Pirates 8-7. The Pirates loss their 100th game for a second consecutive season. Cards again today in Pittsburgh at 305 (LINK)
With a third-place finish the NL East, the Phillies earned a playoff berth and late Tuesday night were assured the sixth seed in the league’s playoffs. That brings them to St. Louis for a best-of-three wild card series that will be played entirely at Busch Stadium. Game times are to be announced, likely today but I did read somewhere that those games start Friday (LINK)
The Blues were missing only Tarasenko, Barbashev and Brown, who are under the weather or banged-up, and Bortuzzo, who had the night off but they still dominated a Minnesota team with something less than a regular-season roster in a 4-2 win last night at Enterprise Center. Opening day for them is coming up on Oct. 15 (LINK)
St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced yesterday that defenseman Scott Perunovich will undergo surgery to repair a fractured left shoulder on Thursday. The injury, suffered in the Blues’ 4-1 win in Chicago on Sept. 27, is unrelated to the torn left labrum that kept him sidelined for the 2020-21 season. Perunovich will be re-evaluated in six months.
Perunovich, 24, was drafted by the Blues in the 2nd round, 45th overall, of the 2018 NHL Draft. Last season, the 5’10, 174-pound defenseman recorded six assists and eight penalty minutes in 19 regular-season games for the Blues. The Hibbing, Minnesota, native also appeared in seven postseason games, collecting four assists
