Adam Sandler is the 2023 recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. He will be honored at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. on March 19th. The award recognizes individuals who have had an impact on American society like Twain. Past recipients include Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Jon Stewart, Dave Chappelle, Tina Fey, and Will Ferrell. The Kennedy Center president said, quote, “Adam has entertained audiences for over three decades with his films, music, and his tenure as a fan favorite cast member on ‘SNL’ . . . “[He] has created characters that have made us laugh, cry, and cry from laughing. [I’m] looking forward to a laughter-filled evening as we celebrate his career at a ceremony that is sure to bring together the best in comedy.”
David Spade and Dana Carvey came out with two-part Chris Farley tribute special on their “Fly on the Wall” podcast today. It’s to commemorate the 25th anniversary of his death. It includes a variety of guests, like Chris’ brothers and mom. And, of course, his famous friends like Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Conan O’Brien, Jon Lovitz, and Mike Myers. You can listen to the special today on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Ellen Pompeo has been doing “Grey’s Anatomy” since March of 2005. But her final episode . . . at least as a regular cast member . . . airs in February. So why did she decide to leave the show she’s the MAIN CHARACTER of? On yesterday’s “Drew Barrymore Show”, she said, quote, “Listen, it’s just I gotta mix it up a little bit. I’m 53, my brain is like scrambled eggs . . . I gotta do something new . . . I mean 19 years . . . that’s more than people keep their kids in their house, like people keep their kids in their house until they’re 18 and then they send them off to college. This is like me like going away to college.” But she added, quote, “The show has been incredible to me and I’ve loved a lot of the experience.”
“Good Morning America” hosts Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes will have plenty of time to HANG . . . because ABC is keeping them off the air until they complete an “internal review” of their relationship. The ABC News President sent an email to staff saying this chaos is, quote, “distracting from the incredibly important work our team does here at ABC News.” Supposed “insiders” at ABC say Amy and T.J. welcome the review, because they don’t believe they’ve done anything wrong, and they think they’ll be back on the air when it’s all over.

When he was a child, Nicolas Cage was convinced he was an alien. Cage admitted that he was “shocked” to find out that he had “normal organs and a normal skeleton.” He says QUOTE “I was shocked the day I went to the doctor’s office as a child and I found out that I had normal organs and a normal skeleton because I was certain I was from another planet.” The actor opened up about his childhood and his struggle to connect with others as a socially awkward kid. It’s not the first time we’ve heard from Cage bein Crazy….He has admitted to having a gambling problem, winning a ton of money and donating it to an orphanage….he claims that he did have a two-headed snake at one point in his life. He also admitted to being stalked by a pair of mimes but said his fantasy of exploring a cave in the nude never happened.
You know those yule log videos that are popular around the holidays? There’s a new one available for streaming on HBO Max, but rather than a static shot of some logs burning against an aural backdrop of cheesy Christmas music, this yule log holds a deliciously evil secret: a feature length horror/comedy flick that will bend your mind. The movie originally aired on Adult Swim this week without fanfare, but if you missed it, you can check it out on HBO Max. Just type “Adult Swim yule log” into the search bar and sit back and enjoy an absolutely bat-crap wild movie. People are not sharing what it’s about yet, but apparently it’s WILD.
Loudwire just put out their TOP 50 POP PUNK albums of ALL TIME. You can see the entire list on the blog but I have the TOP 5.
5. Sum 41, ‘All Killer No Filler’ (2001)
In the summer of 2001, a gang of Canadian rap-and-metal-inspired punks brought snot-nosed music to its apex. With this album – a new breed of the genre took hold. Every song kicks ass and makes you want to jump off a high dive, sled down a dirt hill and invade your local gas station with obnoxious B-boy rhymes.
4. Fall Out Boy, ‘From Under the Cork Tree’ (2005)
In 2005 came the turning point of this band’s career that threw them from rough ‘n’ ready punks to big-league players. The two singles from this record truly sealed the deal. Soon after, the mainstream swept them up from the scene. These iconic songs held in the bleeding, beating heart of emos everywhere still ring as significant now as they did then.
3. Descendents, ‘Milo Goes to College’ (1982)
In 1982, pop-punk was born with this album. Sprouting from Southern California’s hardcore scene, this band became unlikely romantic heroes inside a scene of brutes and wastoids. At 22 minutes in length, the band created an unpolished masterwork, which every single pop-punk band in history has, in some way, ripped off.
-
Blink-182, ‘Enema of the State’ (1999)
This album proves exactly why its creators were featured in teen sex comedy smash American Piearound the time of its release. It’s got smash-hit singles as well as more tender moments, but the deep cuts here are brilliant too. - Green Day, ‘Dookie’ (1994)
A brilliant ode to slacking around, wanking off and being a 20-something waste of space this is the definitive pop-punk album. This album inspired legions of bands to follow in their footsteps, from scene titans Paramore and Fall Out Boy through to relative newcomers like Neck Deep. Simply put, this album rules.
There’s a big problem standing between Ozzy and his desire to tour in 2023; his difficulties walking months after spinal surgery. Ozzy told ‘Yahoo Entertainment’ “It is so tough because, I mean, I want to be out there. I want to be doing it. This surgery this guy did. You have no idea. The thing is my head is all right, my creativity is OK, my singing OK but I just can’t walk much now.” Ozzy, who is also dealing with Parkinson’s Disease, has around 12 European shows scheduled for next year. While sad, he’s grateful for his surgery, adding “That surgeon told me if I didn’t have the surgery there would be a good chance I would be paralyzed from the neck down.”
Attorneys had their opening statements in the trial where Tory Lanez is accused of shooting Megan Thee Stallion. On Monday, the prosecution said Lanez fired five shots in July 2020, hitting Megan in both feet. Allegedly Lanez was upset after Meg called him a “beautiful artist.” The prosecution pointed to text messages from Lanez to Meg apologizing for what he did and claiming he was drunk when he did it. The defense said that Tory couldn’t have been the triggerman because his DNA was not on the weapon, and he was wearing swim trunks at the time, so there was no place for him to carry a gun. Lanez’s attorney seems to be laying the groundwork for Meg’s former best friend, Kelsey Nicole Harris as the person who fired the gun.

Argentina is in the big dance. With their 3-0 win over Croatia yesterday – they now wait their fate and see who will be joining them after the game this afternoon. Messi scored a penalty kick to make it 1-0. Then a breakthrough from Alvarez made things 2-0. Alvarez made it 3-0 and sealed the deal with a goal just under the 70th minute. They will take on either France or Morocco – that game kicks off today at 1PM.
While the Blues are off today and traveling to Edmonton for a game tomorrow night, Alexander Ovechkin was setting records in Chicago. He went into the game against the Blackhawks sitting at 797 goals in his career. Welp – he’s not waiting for 800 anymore. After a hat-trick … and a 7-3 win on top of it – Ovechkin now is only the third player in NHL history to score 800. The only two in front of him? Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe.
The NBA will award the best player in the league by acknowledging the NO DOUBT G.O.A.T. On Tuesday, the NBA announced the MVP award would be named after Michael Jordan. A new trophy was revealed, showing Jordan rising for a dunk. Other NBA legends’ names will be associated with post-season awards as well. The Hakeem Olajuwon Trophy will be for Defensive Player of the Year and The Wilt Chamberlain Trophy goes to the Rookie of the Year.
The spawns of LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony brought out all the stars on Monday night … because a tons of A-listers hit up a H.S. gym in L.A. — all to catch a glimpse of the NBA stars’ sons go at it. Sierra Canyon, led by Bronny and Bryce James, hosted Kiyan Anthony‘s school, Christ The King, in a nationally televised basketball showcase — and, as expected, the matchup lived up to expectations … both on and off the court. LBJ, Melo, La La Anthony, Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Scottie Pippen and more all had front-row seats for the action … and the kids didn’t disappoint. Bronny and Bryce pulled off the big win, 62-51 … with the older James having a great game, logging 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Kiyan, meanwhile, had eight points in the loss.
Are the St. Louis Cardinals planning to spend some more this offseason? If you’re into theories and possibilities, the contract just signed by Willson Contreras could give a hint on what is to come this offseason in the Gateway City. The 30-year-old Contreras just inked a five-year, $87.5 million deal with the Cardinals. He will make AT LEAST $17 million each year….except for next year…where he is only on paper making $10 million. With Contreras earning $10 million next season, but that number jumping up considerably for the 2024 season and beyond, could that money be used by the franchise in 2022 in other ways? Reports have indicated that the Cardinals may be “the mystery team” that is involved in the bidding for starting pitcher Carlos Rodon, the best of the remaining free agent starters. St. Louis is reportedly looking for help in the rotation, meaning that some extra money this season could go toward filling that need as well. Also – don’t sleep on the Cardinals going after Dansby Swanson as well.
Shortstop Carlos Correa and the San Francisco Giants are in agreement on a 13-year, $350 million contract, a record-long deal that is the richest ever for the position and gives the team a franchise-type player around which it plans to build. Correa, 28, found a market that PAID OUT shortstops…like $300 million on Trea Turner and $280 million on Xander Bogaerts – were far more to his liking, and he wound up with the second-biggest deal, behind Aaron Judge’s nine-year, $360 million contract with the New York Yankees.
