There was a HUGE tribute show Saturday night in London for Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, featuring tons of guest musicians. The most important of them all was, obviously, Taylor’s son Shane . . . who sat in his dad’s seat for “My Hero”. Another emotional highlight was Dave Grohl ending the show with a solo version of “Everlong”. Other performers included Liam Gallagher, Joe Walsh and the reunited James Gang, Nile Rodgers, Josh Homme, Kesha, AC/DC’s Brian Johnson, Lars Ulrich, Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor. . .Justin Hawkins from The Darkness, Police drummer Stewart Copeland, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson from Rush, the Pretenders and Dave Chappelle and Jason Sudeikis gave onstage introductions.

Wolfgang Van Halen played two Van Halen songs:  “On Fire” and “Hot for Teacher”, with Justin Hawkins on vocals.

Lars from Metallica did some AC/DC with Brian Johnson 

Members of Queen of the Stone Age, and Jane’s Addiction did some Bowie songs 

And members of Queen (joined by the lead singer of The Struts and Taylors son Rufus) played We Will Rock You 

David Lee Roth shared a previously unreleased version of the Van Halen classic “Panama” on his YouTube channel.  No details about the complete track are given, so it’s unknown when, or with who, it was recorded.  Here’s a sample.

The Creative Arts Emmys went down over the weekend.  That’s where they give out a bunch of statues they don’t want to bother with during the actual Emmy ceremony. And now four people are just one award shy of the EGOT:  Eminem, Adele, Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr. Eminem got an Emmy for the Super Bowl Halftime Show, which won Outstanding Variety Special (Live). Adele’s “One Night Only” concert special won Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded). Paul and Ringo won Emmys as producers of the Peter Jackson special “The Beatles: Get Back”. All four of these artists are only missing a Tony . . . and until they get one, they’ll have to be satisfied with an EGO. Other EGO recipients include Cher, Common, Ron Howard, Randy Newman, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, Martin Scorsese, composer John Williams, Kate Winslet and Barbra Streisand. The EGOT is when you win an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony.  It was coined by “Miami Vice” superstar Philip Michael Thomas.  Back in 1984, he said he hoped to achieve it within the next five years. To date, he hasn’t earned A SINGLE LETTER.  But there’s always next year.

Two-time Oscar winner Jane Fonda announced Friday that she’s been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The 84-year-old legend posted on Instagram, “So, my dear friends, I have something personal I want to share. I’ve been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and have started chemo treatments. This is a very treatable cancer. 80% of people survive, so I feel very lucky.” She added “Almost every family in America has had to deal with cancer at one time or another and far too many don’t have access to the quality health care I am receiving and this is not right.”

Kevin Hart has broken a record – a record he doesn’t want to claim. His Netflix buddy comedy, ‘Me Time’, with Mark Wahlberg has a Rotten Tomatoes critic score of only 7%, making it his lowest-rated film ever. It’s also Wahlberg’s lowest score.  Wahlberg’s other critics scores aren’t much higher, either. His film ‘The Happening’ has a 17% and he’s got a 9% for starring ‘Little Fockers’.

We finally got it…Chris Rock finally had something substantive to say about Will Smith slapping him at the Oscars.  Chris was in Liverpool with Dave Chappelle for the start of their U.K. standup tour.  And Dave asked him, quote, “Did that [stuff] hurt?” And Chris said, quote, “[Gosh darn] right . . . the mother[effer] hit me over a [B.S.] joke, the nicest joke I ever told.” Then Chappelle said, quote, “Will did the impression of a perfect person for 30 years, and he ripped his mask off and showed us he was as ugly as the rest of us.  Whatever the consequences are . . . I hope he doesn’t put his mask back on again, and lets his real face breathe.  I see myself in both men.” During a show in London a few nights later, Chris took aim at Will for the apology video he posted in July.  He said, quote, “[Eff] your hostage video.”

Perhaps we will see Colin Farrell entering the Best Actor race at the Academy Awards next year if the response to his newest movie is any indication. The actor stars in the new film The Banshees of Inisherin (LINK) which screened at the Venice Film Festival. Farrell and his fellow cast and crew were met with tremendous applause when the film was over, with journalists present reporting that the screening sparked a 13-minute standing ovation. This is said to be the biggest response yet for any film at the festival, though Brendan Fraser’s The Whale had also garnered a very amazing response and a lengthy ovation as well (LINK).

You know that viral “It’s Corn” song?  If you don’t you’ve been living under a rock.  But, no matter.  Kevin Bacon did an acoustic version, tapping the guitar strings WITH an ear of corn.  Then he takes a bite at the end.

Former “NCIS” star Pauley Perrette revealed on Friday that she suffered a, quote, “massive stroke” a year ago. She added that despite her “traumatic life,” she’s, quote, “still so grateful, still so full of faith, and STILL HERE!” She went on to list all the times she’s CHEATED DEATH.  Quote, “Beside my hair dye allergy, food allergies, [I’m a] domestic violence and rape survivor, and I was assaulted by a crazy homeless person and almost died . . . but I’m still here.” Pauley played Abby Sciuto on “NCIS” for 15 seasons.  She left the show in 2018 due to issues with Mark Harmon, and she hinted at, quote, “multiple physical assaults.”

The Weeknd had to cancel his concert in L.A. on Saturday after he lost his voice (LINK) three and a half songs in. Here he is apologizing to the audience.  (He says he’ll reschedule another date.) Even though a few people boo, he was honest, and made the announcement himself.

Lynyrd Skynyrd is retiring from touring.  Singer Johnny Van Zant told a Florida newspaper, quote, “We’re still looking at hanging it up in the next year or so.” Mainly it’s because the band’s last remaining original member, guitarist Gary Rossington, isn’t doing too well.  He’s only able to join the band for a few shows at a time. But Johnny said musicians never truly retire, so he will probably still do something, even if it’s just writing music.

NIRVANA has won a lawsuit brought by SPENCER ELDEN, the naked baby on the cover of the classic 1991 album, “Nevermind,” claiming it was child pornography. A judge has ruled that Spencer waited too long to file the suit, citing a 10-year statute of limitations. The band’s attorneys also argued that ELDEN profited from the photo, having previously sold autographed copies of the cover and even recreated the photo for pay as an adult. When ROLLING STONE first interviewed him in 2003, ELDEN admitted he was “probably gonna get some money from it.”

Dish Network is currently taking applications to pay someone $1,300 to watch 13 Stephen King movies by Halloween. (Interested?  Head to USDish.com.)  To hype the gig, they used Google Trends to determine the most searched Stephen King movie in each state.  Here are the results:

Jack Flaherty made just his 4th appearance the season yesterday. The rest of the season has been covered by shoulder troubles. He struck out six, walked one, hit a batter and allowed only one run in five innings, which was his longest outing so far this season in the majors. The Cardinals ending up losing the game to the Nationals 6-0 but the Brewers won. The Cardinals winning streaks tho have them still ahead of Milwaukee by 7.5 games.

So they lost on Labor day but Sunday was a bit different. Albert Pujols came to the plate as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning and smacked the second pitch he saw from a Chicago Cubs left-hander for a two-run homer 429 feet into the left-field bleachers. That’s Pujols’ 16th homer of the season and his 695th of his career. Here is how that sounded. That game ended 2-0 for a Cards sweep of the Cubs. Cards play the Nationals tonight at Busch with a start of 645

Evander Holyfield’s legendary rematch with Mike Tyson, where Tyson bit part of his ear off in one of the most memorable sports moments ever. Now, Holyfield’s gloves are hitting the auction block, and could get around $100K! That second fight against Tyson happened on June 28, 1997. The two fought at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The red gloves worn by Holyfield were made by Everlast, and have “Holyfield #1” in black marker on each cuff logo. In their first fight, Holyfield beat Tyson in a 7-round TKO. During the second fight, Holyfield was frustrating Tyson which led him to bite his ear. Tyson has since explained the reason he bit Holyfield’s ear … saying he was upset Evander was “headbutting the s*** out of [him]” and “ringing my f***ing bell.” Bidding ends later this month (LINK)

Phil Mickelson has made himself one of the biggest enemies of the PGA Tour over the past several months, and the six-time major champion appears to still be enjoying that role. Mickelson played in the LIV Golf event at The International in Bolton, Mass., over the weekend. The tournament featured a thrilling finish, with Dustin Johnson draining a long eagle putt on the first playoff hole to beat Anirban Lahiri and Joaquin Niemann. Mickelson finished tied for 40th and still won $134,000. After the tournament, Mickelson spoke with the media about how LIV has been good for fans and good for all professional golfers. He then took a job at the PGA Tour and said they “magically found” a pile of new money. The PGA Tour recently announced sweeping changes that will go into effect next season. Many of them give PGA Tour golfers opportunities to earn far more money than they have in the past. That is obviously a direct response to so many players chasing the money and leaving for LIV. Mickelson’s point, which is a fair one, is that the PGA Tour probably would have just kept a lot of that money if LIV never came along. Several of the top names in golf have left the PGA Tour to sign with LIV. Money is clearly the biggest draw, though there have been other reasons cited (LINK) as well.

Dustin Johnson won the most dramatic LIV Golf League event to date with a banked-in 30-foot eagle putt on the first hole of a three-man playoff on Sunday. The victory at LIV Boston is D.J.’s first in the LIV Golf League, and it helped his team, the Four Aces, to a third consecutive team win. D.J. claims the $4 million first prize. He putted in what can safely be called the best putt in LIV Golf history for an eagle three and the win over Lahiri and Niemann. See the Putt and the full team standings (LINK)
