The first part of “Stranger Things” Season 4 is now Netflix’s most watched English language series . . . ever.  It already has 781 MILLION hours viewed, and it’s only been out for 17 days.  The all-time list measures viewership over a show’s first 28 days.  The new season’s already surpassed “Bridgerton” Season 2 (656 million) and “Bridgerton” Season 1 (625 million). This also puts “Stranger Things” at #2 on the OVERALL list for both English and non-English Netflix shows.  Of course, “Squid Game” is still at #1 with 1.65 BILLION hours viewed within its first 28 days.  It’s a Korean-language show. For those who are caught up and impatiently waiting for July 1st to be here for Volume 2 to land, Netflix released some photo teases to hold us over.

Not a lot of people were watching “Squid Game” thinking, “I wish this was real, and it was happening to me.”  But for anyone who WAS thinking that, you CAN have your chance . . . without the killing . . . probably. Netflix is creating a real-life “Squid Game” competition show that they’re hyping as “the biggest reality competition ever.”

It’s called “Squid Game: The Challenge”, and it’ll have 456 players . . . competing in a series of games . . . for the chance to win $4.56 million.  Those numbers are notable because there were also 456 players on the fictional show . . . and the total prize, in South Korean currency, was 45.6 billion “won.”  That’s more than $38 million in U.S. money. Netflix claims the $4.56 million payout for the new show is the largest lump-sum cash prize in TV history.  There aren’t many details on how the show will work, other than that it will be a “massive competition and social experiment.”  If you’re interested in joining, you can apply at SquidGameCasting.com.

Hollywood is no stranger to having two competing movies about basically the same thing. There’ve been dueling asteroid movies (Deep Impact vs. Armageddon), dueling animated ant movies (Antz vs. A Bug’s Life), dueling CGI Jungle Book movies (Disney’s The Jungle Book vs. Netflix’s Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle). Now there’s dueling Pinocchio movies. In September, Disney will release Pinocchio, their latest live-action-plus-CGI redo of their animated classic, with Tom Hanks as Gepetto. In December, Netflix has their own take on the classic tale, directed by Guillermo del Toro. But del Toro’s version will stand out in at least two ways: It’s all animated, and it sounds really, really, really dark. The Oscar-winning filmmaker said that his version of the film would be one of those renegade versions of a classic story, like Maleficent or Pan. But clearly we had no idea how far del Toro would go. Indeed, this version is not set in a fairy tale past but in Italy between World Wars I and II. Gepetto has a dead son; Pinocchio was carved from a tree that grew over his grave. Jiminy Cricket, now named Sebastian, literally lives inside Pinocchio. And del Toro found something even more disturbing than his trip to Pleasure Island, which may be the most traumatic stretch of any classic Disney animated feature. “He is recruited into the village military camp, because the fascist official in town thinks if this puppet cannot die, it would make the perfect soldier.”

In pop music, it’s pretty common for an artist to have someone else (or a whole team) help write their hits.  But in rock?  Ehh, probably a little less common.  Here are a few songs that might surprise you for having an outside writer. Let’s start with “I Don’t Want to Change the World” by Ozzy Osbourne.  Ozzy shares writing credit with his drummer and guitarist . . . but also, Motorhead founder and singer Lemmy Kilmister.  Lemmy also co-wrote “Mama, I’m Coming Home”. There’s also “Fame” by David Bowie.  He co-wrote the song with composer Carlos Alomar and . . . John Lennon.  It’s unclear the extent of Lennon’s lyrical contribution, but Bowie said he provided inspiration and energy. And last, we have “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith.  It was written by songwriter Diane Warren.  If her name sounds familiar, it’s probably because she’s written nine #1 songs and 32 Top 10 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 like “If I Could Turn Back Time” by Cher and “How Do I Live” by LeAnn Rimes.

Speaking of Ozzy — he underwent surgery in Los Angeles on Monday, a surgery that his wife, Sharon, said would “determine the rest of his life.” The Prince of Darkness is having neck surgery related to injuries from his 03 ATV accident.  He has said his neck issues are affecting his ability to walk. Fans noticed that before Ozzy went into the OR, he posted a link to his song “I Love You All”, seemingly thanking fans for their support while he faces some health battles. There hasn’t been an update on Ozzy since he underwent surgery, but here’s wishing a speedy recovery in time for his 40th wedding anniversary to Sharon on July 1st!

For Post Malone, ’90s rock was a big part of his life and during a recent visit on Stern he decided to cover a Pearl Jam song. “Better Man” initially appeared on 1994’s Vitalogy.  ((video — https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwRmd2rTWXA))

Metallica is offering video classes to teach you how to play just like them. How can you play like the guys in Metallica? As James Hetfield puts it, “The best way to play like us is to play with us.” And thus kicks off the band’s new collaboration with Yousician, the visual music learning component developing step-by-step tutorials showcasing some of your favorite bands and songs.  Metallica is offering a three-lesson course that’s ready-made for beginners. By partaking, you can learn to play like the band, learning riffs and rhythms straight from James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett. Meanwhile all four band members will also provide some of their insight on the songs themselves.

Tyler Perry was interviewed, and the talk wandered into Perry’s visible presence after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Academy Awards. Tyler said, “My only problem with it is this. If I talk about it, then it becomes overshadowing of everything else we talked about. That will be the headline for sure.” He answered the reports about him comforting Smith after the incident. Perry said, “There is a difference between comforting and de-escalating. I was there, close up. I left early to go and check on Chris because it was wrong in no uncertain terms and I made sure I said that to Will.” Perry said that Smith “was devastated. He couldn’t believe what happened. He couldn’t believe he did it. And I’m looking at this man, in his eyes going, ‘What are you doing? This is your night… And to get all this way to winning an Oscar. It was one of the crowning moments of his career that he wanted so desperately.” Tyler added that being friends with Rock and Smith made the situation “very difficult.” Perry said Rock “was a pure champion the way he handled it.” Perry finished his conversation about the incident saying, “I feel very uncomfortable. I don’t feel it is my story to tell.”

Trying to create something original within a major franchise controlled by a megacorporation is tough.  Crazy tough.  Neither Marvel nor Lucasfilm are known for being hands-off with their properties, but nonetheless Taika Waititi has somehow managed to succeed under these conditions. Luckily, Lucasfilm is in the market to “create a whole new saga,” and Waititi is just the man for the job.  Waititi said, “Look, I think for the Star Wars universe to expand, it has to expand.”  He said: “I don’t think that I’m any use in the Star Wars universe making a film where everyone’s like, ‘Oh great, well that’s the blueprints to the Millennium Falcon, ah that’s Chewbacca’s grandmother,’” he said. “That all stands alone, that’s great, though I would like to take something new and create some new characters and just expand the world, otherwise it feels like it’s a very small story.”

Kanye West jumped back on Instagram to start some drama. In his first post in three months, he criticized Adidas for their Adilette ’22 slide’s similarity to the Yeezy slide.  West wrote, “I’m not standing for this blatant copying no more. To all sneaker culture To every ball player rapper or even if you work at the store. This is for everyone who wants to express themselves but feel they can’t cause they’ll lose their contract or be called crazy…Bravery is not being afraid Bravery is overcoming your fear for your truth.” He continued, “This shoe is a fake Yeezy made by adidas themselves.”  The post has since been deleted.  Kanye and Adidas have been in business together for years. Could this incident be the final straw?

JOAN JETT is fed up with people sexually assaulting dolphins and she wants it to stop.  Okay yeah,  that sounds a little weirder than it is.  She’s actually calling on SeaWorld to stop forcibly breeding dolphins and beluga whales. She issued a statement saying, quote, “In the park’s breeding program, unwilling female dolphins are taken from the water and sometimes even drugged so they can’t fight back while SeaWorld staff thrust tubes filled with semen into their uteruses.” She says some of the dolphins and whales have to endure this repeatedly, only for the babies to die or be taken away . . . and she calls it, quote, “disrespectful to these forms of intelligent life.”

Imagine getting your Saturday night dinner date on the house, thanks to Shaquille O’Neal.  According to Page Six, Shaq was on a date with a “mystery woman” at a club in New York, last weekend.  After the meal, Shaq bought the entire serving staff dinner.  Then, he picked up the tab for everyone else dining in the restaurant.

“Modern Family” star Jesse Tyler Ferguson confirmed the script for the show’s spinoff is completed. The beloved actor — who starred as Mitchell throughout the ABC show’s — revealed the script is yet to be picked up by a network. He said: “The script’s out there and it’s very good,” he told the outlet. “So you know, who knows? If someone wants to produce it, maybe.”

Gotta check this out…its hysterical…. Josh Brolin and Jeremy Renner were supposed to interview each other, but Jeremy couldn’t make it.  So Josh interviewed himself.  Here is a quick little snippet from the interview.

  • Apple’s foray into live sports took a big step forward Tuesday.
  • Apple and Major League Soccer have announced a 10-year partnership on a streaming service that will allow fans to watch every game without local blackouts or restrictions. The service will be available exclusively through the Apple TV app beginning next year.

The deal is Apple’s second venture into streaming professional sports. In April, it began airing “Friday Night Baseball,” an exclusive weekly doubleheader of Major League Baseball games. MLS Commissioner Don Garber said Apple is not paying a rights fee but rather a minimum guarantee against revenues that will be generated with both selling subscriptions. The details of the streaming service will be announced in the coming months. The package will be included for fans who have full-season ticket packages for their club.

Some MLS and Leagues Cup matches will be available at no additional cost to Apple TV+ subscribers, with a limited number of matches also available for free. What also makes the deal intriguing for Apple is that MLS has the youngest and most diverse audience compared to the other four major professional North American sports leagues.

Miles Mikolas was SO CLOSE to a no hitter yesterday guys. The dude retired 17 consecutive Pirates before a dude connected for a hit that went just over a diving Harrison Bader. That hit bounced over the wall for a ground rule double and it denied Busch Stadium III its first no-hitter and St. Louis its first, by any pitcher, since 1983. The Cardinals held a 3-1 win in Game 1 and then smacked Pittsburgh around for a 9-1 victory in Game 2. The Cardinals had a seven-run lead by the end of the 2nd inning. Paul Goldschmidt homered three times, had six hits in the doubleheader, and reached base in all five of his plate appearances during the night game. Another tonight against the Pirates at Busch Stadium starts at 645.

The Stanley Cup finals start tonight with the Tampa Bay Lightning taking on The Colorado Avalanche starting at 7pm.

Jeff Hardy has been suspended by the AEW without pay following his DUI arrest on Monday, the org. announced Tuesday.

“We were able to resume contact with Jeff Hardy this afternoon,” AEW President & CEO Tony Khan said in a statement. “AEW does not condone Jeff’s alleged behavior.”

Khan said Hardy’s ban will last until he successfully completes a treatment program and maintains his sobriety.  Hardy was arrested at around 10 AM on Monday morning in Florida, after cops say he drunkenly drove his car through County highways. He’s since been hit with three charges, including felony DUI.
