Before R Kelly had some big ass hits back in the day before he was accused of being a serial sexual predator. “Ignition (Remix),” “I Believe I Can Fly,” and “Bump N’ Grind.” He’s already lost a couple of legal battles, including to a woman who won $4 million in a lawsuit accusing him of sexually abusing her when she was 16, and to the landlord of his former recording studio. So he needs cash and he is selling his entire music catalogue. And people are lining up to not buy it. If Kelly is found guilty in just one of his trials in New York (federal), Illinois (federal), Illinois again (state) or Minnesota (also state), the catalog’s value could fall even more. The obvious buyer would be Hipgnosis who recently bought Red Hot Chili Peppers’ catalog for $140 million, and since 2018 has purchased half of Neil Young’s catalog, everything by Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac, Shakira, and selected works of Bob Rock’s that included his share of Metallica’s self-titled album. “It has been offered to me a number of times by his team, and of course, I’ve said no for the obvious reasons,” he said. “There are incredible songs in that catalog, but why would you take that kind of risk?” Another anonymous asset buyer who passed on the catalog in 2019 said “We wouldn’t go near it with a 10-foot pole.” Bob Dylan sold everything to Universal Music for $300 million. And according to the free market thus far, the whole value of R Kelly’s life’s work is about zero dollars and zero cents.
Former adult film star Ron Jeremy has been indicted by the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office on more than 30 sexual assault counts involving 21 victims dating back more than two decades. Jeremy pleaded not guilty yesterday to the new felony charges, which included 12 counts of forcible rape, and many others charges I’d rather not say. Jeremy is accused of sexually assaulting more than 20 women over a 23-year span dating to 1996. The alleged victims range in age from 15 to 51. The new charges stem from incidents dating to October 1996, when a 19-year-old woman was allegedly raped by Jeremy during a photo shoot in the San Fernando Valley. In October 2000, a 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped by Jeremy at a party in a nightclub. He also is accused of sexually assaulting a young woman at a strip club between 2002 and 2003.
Recall I played you Offspings new version of Gone Away? I think we all agree its pretty cool and works. Now 39 years later Men Without Hats is doing the same to Safety Dance So the version that has been good enough for 39 years . They reworked the song into a slowed-down, midtempo ballad. The lyrics are the same, but they gave it a new title: “No Friends of Mine”. In an attempt to be, I guess funny, the band said, quote, “After the filming of the music video for ‘Safety Dance‘. the jester and the crazy blonde girl settled down in West Kington. “He became the mayor of the town and she stayed at home to raise their family. Forty years later, we have gone back to visit them, with ‘No Friends of Mine’ serving as the soundtrack.”
Food Network is releasing their first ever scripted movie in November on Discovery+. It’s called “Candy Coated Christmas” and stars REE DRUMMOND from “The Pioneer Woman” in her first acting role. The movie stars Molly McCook from “Last Man Standing” as a woman who returns to her hometown to cash in on her mom’s old house . . . until she gets to know the family that’s renting the place and makes other friends around town. Ree will play the owner of a bakery who befriends Molly’s character. An executive at Discovery+ said, quote, “Food Network fans live for the holidays, so creating a Christmas movie is an exciting way to expand our offerings . . . We’ve created the kind of Christmas movie that only we can.”
Netflix is launching a global promotional livestream event that will have exclusive first looks and interviews covering more than 70 series, films and specials. The event is titled, rather oddly, “Tudum” — referring to the sound that accompanies the Netflix logo at the start of its programming. It’s billed as the company’s “first-ever global fan event” and features the streamer’s “biggest stars and creators.” Participating shows include the upcoming seasons of Stranger Things, Bridgerton and The Witcher, to La Casa De Papel and Cobra Kai. They hosting WitcherCon, an online celebration of all things Witcher in July, and Paramount+ announcing its upcoming Star Trek Day online event in September. In all cases, studios during the pandemic era are making their own in-house online fandom events rather than primarily relying on external in-person fandom events such as Comic-Con. Netflix’s Tudum is Sept. 25 and will be broadcast across Netflix’s YouTube channels, Twitter and Twitch.
There haven’t been many updates on BOB ODENKIRK since his heart attack last month, but this is encouraging: Bob recently made a guest appearance on “The George Lucas Talk Show”. It’s an online comedy series hosted by a guy IMPERSONATING George Lucas . . . but they do have real guests. Comedian PAUL F. TOMPKINS was on the most recent episode, and he called Odenkirk to engage in some light banter. Bob sounded good
MAYA RUDOLPH and ANDY SAMBERG will be hosting a new holiday baking competition show on Peacock. It’s called “Baking It” and it’s a spin-off of Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman’s show “Making It”. Eight teams of two home bakers will compete in themed challenges over six episodes. The teams will be judged by a panel of four opinionated real-life grandmothers. Maya and Andy will lead the festivities and add their comedic commentary. A release date has not been announced. I have a yard work reality show coming called Raking It.
A family in Warwickshire, England got a PLEASANT surprise the other day, when TOM CRUISE landed his helicopter in their backyard. The family actually got a call saying that an unnamed “VIP” was running late for a meeting and needed to land there, because nearby Coventry Airport was temporarily shut down. They were pretty shocked when Tom stepped out of the chopper. Alison Webb says he went straight for her kids and started talking to them, then offered them a RIDE. So they actually went up in the helicopter while Tom was at his meeting. Alison says, quote, “It turned out to be an incredible day. It was surreal, I still now can’t believe it happened.”
You guys remember Honey Boo Boo right? (AUDIO) Can you believe she is 30 now?… She’ll be 16 years old on Saturday, and she just did a feature, along with a photo shoot, for “Teen Vogue“. Oh, and she’s not Honey Boo Boo anymore. She says, quote, “My mama did not name me Honey Boo Boo. My name is Alana.” Her full name is Alana Frances Thompson, and sadly, her reality show fame has made it difficult to connect with people at school. Quote, “To be honest, I do not have many friends. At all. I don’t trust nobody really, so I don’t have friends.” But one thing she does have is a sense of self-love. She says, quote, “Just because I got a little bit of extra meat on my bones, you want to hate me? I’ll never get body shaming. I do not care. As long as I like myself, I’m good.” Alana has had a lot to deal with thanks to her mother’s substance abuse issues, but she seems to have weathered the storm. Quote, “When my mama got real bad with her [drug use], I didn’t know where I was going to end up. I’m proud of myself for how far I’ve come.”

Yesterday’s afternoon Cardinal game could have pretty much just been called the Goldschmidt Game. Paul Goldschmidt hit 2 homeruns as the Cardinals went on to beat the Tigers 3-2 in 10 innings. Lars Nootbaar ended up getting the walk off hit … but guess who crossed the plate as the game winning run? Yup. Paul Goldschmidt. Today, the Cardinals are in Pittsburgh to take on the Pirates. Miles Mikolas gets the start for the Cards. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05PM.
2 NFL teams announced their starters last night. The Broncos have announced that Teddy Bridgewater has won the starting job over Drew Lock. Also, the Jaguars announced that Trevor Lawrence will get the start over Gardner Minshew. Over in San Francisco, they say they have a “good idea” who will start but haven’t announced the official Week 1 starter.
One day after re-signing with the Seattle Seahawks, veteran tight end Luke Willson says he is walking away from football. In a statement posted last night on Twitter, the 31-year-old wrote that he spent days in the hospital during this offseason with a buildup of extra fluid in the space around the heart. He said that after reflecting on everything yesterday, he decided that it’s time for him to begin with the next chapter of his life. The Seahawks released Willson on Wednesday, leaving them with an opening on their 80-man roster.
NASCAR Cup Series managing director Jay Fabian has stepped down from his role as he faces multiple charges of felony animal cruelty. Fabian is being two felony counts of cruelty to animals and one count of misdemeanor cruelty to animals. An arrest warrant was issued Aug. 20, stating that the incident occurred on July 21 when Fabian allegedly “did, intentionally and with malice, deprive his dog, Jasper, of all necessary sustenance in which to live, causing the animal to suffer unjustifiable pain, suffering, and death in a torturous and cruel manner.” The report says Fabian “did cause extreme dehydration and starvation almost to the point of death of his dog, Aubrey as well.” There’s also a misdemeanor charge for the treatment of other animals. Fabian’s court date for all three charges is slated for Sept. 27.
A truce has been ordered. The war of words between Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka, perhaps the most persistent golf story of 2021, has been benched by United States Ryder Cup captain Steve Stricker, who has made it clear to both men that he won’t tolerate it when the Americans host Europe next month. Stricker spoke to DeChambeau and Koepka in separate phone conversations last week to express his concern about their ongoing rift and the effect it could have on the U.S. squad. He said: QUOTE “They assured me that the team and the country and everything else that goes into this is their [top priority].”
Serena and Venus Williams became the latest high-profile tennis stars to withdraw from the 2021 U.S. Open on Wednesday, joining Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. The two sisters made their announcements on social media roughly 10 hours apart from each other. With both Venus and Serena not participating, it marks the first time since 2003 that neither of the two will play in the last Grand Slam tournament of the year. Serena, a 23-time major singles champion, withdrew from the U.S. Open as she rehabs a torn hamstring. Venus, 41, withdrew from the event due to a leg injury.
Just when you thought you’d heard the last of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics . . . an Olympian from China said her gold medal is already PEELING. The gymnast earned gold in the trampoline gymnastics. She said, quote, “I thought that [the mark] was probably just dirt, so I rubbed it with my finger and found that nothing changed, so then I picked at it and the mark got bigger.” In case you’re wondering, the gold medals are NOT solid gold. They were made using recycled materials donated by Japan’s citizens, then coated with six grams of gold. The Tokyo Olympics Organizing Committee came out and said the coating that is peeling is “protective” and is NOT the gold plating. If Zhu wants a replacement, unfortunately she’d have to pay for it. But the committee could choose to open an investigation into the matter.
