(The backlash from Bachelor Nation and demand for Harrison’s resignation began after an interview with the show’s first and only Black Bachelorette, Rachel Lindsay. Lindsay and Harrison discussed the past actions of current “Bachelor” contestant Rachael Kirkconnell. In 2018, Kirkconnell attended an antebellum-themed sorority party where costumes and decorations glamourized the South’s intolerant past. On the show, Harrison excused Kirkconnell’s post (link), arguing that it was “not a good look in 2021, but that was not the case in 2018).Chris Harrison is not returning to the new season of “Bachelor in Paradise” on ABC. Instead a number of guest host will be stepping in. David Spade will be one of the revolving guest hosts. Spade was chosen as a guest host because he is a super-fan and has “built a cult following among fellow fans because of the hilarious commentary” about the show on his Instagram. They want it less serious and more funny. No other guest host have been mentioned yet. Chris has been serving as a host since 2002.
JOJO SIWA had a party Wednesday night to celebrate Pride Month . . . and someone OVERDOSED. It was a 30-year-old man who was reportedly already pretty messed up on acid when he showed up. He was taken to the hospital, but there’s no word on his condition. Other than that, the party looked pretty lit, with a bounce house, a bedazzled piano, balloons, unicorns, and a light-up “Pride” sign.
Remember when TOM CRUISE blew a gasket (link) last December, when he caught “Mission: Impossible 7” crew members violating COVID protocols? Well, because production just shut down for two weeks after at least one person on the set tested positive for the coronavirus. There’s no word how many . . . or who they were. A rep for the studio says, quote, “We are following all safety protocols and will continue to monitor the situation.”
DENNIS QUAID has joined the cast of Peacock’s limited series about “Tiger King” star JOE EXOTIC. He’ll play Rick Kirkman, the reality show producer whose footage was used in the Netflix documentary. JOHN CAMERON MITCHELL from “Hedwig and the Angry Inch” is playing Joe . . . and KATE MCKINNON from “Saturday Night Live” is his sworn enemy CAROLE BASKIN. There’s no word yet on a premiere date.
A wet CHRIS HEMSWORTH . . . sharks . . . AND the beach? National Geographic will kick off their 9th annual SharkFest with “Shark Beach with Chris Hemsworth” on July 5th. The hour-long documentary will have Chris diving with nurse sharks, meeting with experts and checking out the latest tech to prevent attacks. Chris’ home country of Australia recently had one of the worst shark attack seasons in a century. He wants to find out how people and sharks can co-exist better.
A Florida concert promoter says he is trying to “get fence-sitters off the fence” by charging people who haven’t been vaccinated for COVID-19 more than 50 times as much as others. Tickets for the June 26 concert in St. Petersburg headlined by punk rockers Teenage Bottlerocket will be $18 for the vaccinated and $999.99 for everyone else. “I’m not denying entry to anyone,” says promoter Paul Williams, per the Washington Post (link). “I’m just offering a discount.” Attendess will need to show up with photo ID and a vaccination card. He says the move doesn’t violate an executive order from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis banning businesses from making patrons prove they have been vaccinated—which won’t go into effect until days after the concert—though a rep says charging higher prices “unfairly discriminates against people who have enumerated rights under Florida law.” Williams says the response has been “overwhelmingly positive,” though he has received a number of abusive and threatening message from anti-vaxxers. Williams says the cheaper tickets have almost sold out, but nobody has bought one of the “standard price” $999.99 tickets.
The BACKSTREET BOYS and ‘N SYNC are collabing . . . well sorta. NICK CARTER and LANCE BASS broke the news on an Instagram Live (link) that they’ve been working on a special project in honor of Pride Month. JOEY FATONE even joined in on the chat to tease his involvement. They also said AJ MCLEAN might join in. Nick said, quote, “So basically, Lance, Joey, myself, A.J. maybe . . . we’re going to announce it in the next week … it’s going to be huge . . . we’re really excited.” Nick and Lance teased the secret project back in September . . . and now it’s FINALLY happening

Anyone pining for a Hole reunion…it isn’t happening. Vogue asked Courtney Love about the possibilities of a Hole reunion, she replied “No, absolutely not and you guys have gotta get over it.” “We’re all really good friends, and Melissa and I are especially close—we talk every day. But Eric is kinda off-the-grid right now—I think he’s in Japan literally becoming a monk. I’m not even kidding.” Love currently has a video series project called “Bruises of Roses”; she just covered Wilco’s “California Stars”.
Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea will star in the upcoming film, Babylon, which will also star Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie. La La Land director Damien Chazelle’s film will take place in 1920’s Hollywood as silent films were being replaced by “talkies”. While nothing’s been said on Flea’s exact role in Babylon, he’s been in films like Back to the Future, Baby Driver, Toy Story 4, and Boy Erased. Babylon is set to premiere in early 2023.
Two Reddit users were at Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith’s art show over the weekend say Smith told them the new Red Hot Chili Peppers album is done and that new music would be arriving “very soon” and that the band will tour in 2022. Both Reddit users posted pics of them with Smith at the art event, where the drummer was showcasing some of his paintings. One commenter was a little skeptical, writing “I feel I’ve seen like half a dozen posts of people talking about meeting Chad in the last week and hearing that the album’s done. Is this just a running gag or is he just meeting with fans an unusually frequent amount of times?”
Props to some bands who have music coming out…
“Nowhere Generation (link)“, Rise Against. This is their ninth album.

Yesterday the Bruins beat the Islanders in OT to take a 2-1 series lead. The Hurricanes ALSO got a win over the Lightning in OT. Tampa leads that series 2-1. Tonight the Jets and Canadiens have game 2. If you haven’t seen the hit at the end of Game 1 – but, Mark Schaefle (Shyf-Lee) – the guy did the checkin – has been suspended for 4 games. The Avalanche and Knights play game 3 tonight as well with Colorado up 2-0.

The Celtics’ coaching staff will look different in 2021–22 as Brad Stevens will move to a full-time role in Boston’s front office. Stevens will replace Danny Ainge as the team’s president of basketball operations as Ainge steps down from his role with the organization. Boston’s search for a new head coach will begin “immediately,” per a team statement. Ainge, 62, has worked as a Boston executive since 2003. He was instrumental in building a playoff team over the last decade, and he also helped deliver the 2008 championship with the acquisitions of Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. Ainge is not expected to retire, and he could join the Jazz front office in some capacity.
In case you forgot, Logan Paul and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are fighting this weekend. Their long-discussed boxing match takes place this Sunday, June 6 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. It’s an exhibition fight…. all about the money and fame basically, but it should be actually pretty cool! Floyd Mayweather Jr., is 44, and YouTuber Logan Paul is 26. This special exhibition is slated for eight rounds, each three minutes long. There will be no judges ringside, and this fight will not produce an official declared winner. The big info we heard yesterday….no headgear and knock outs ARE allowed.
Thursday’s Triple-A game between the Norfolk Tides and Durham Bulls was called in the eighth inning after Bulls pitcher Tyler Zombro was hit in the head by a line drive. Zombro, a 26-year-old reliever for the Tampa Bay Rays affiliate, appeared to be convulsing on the mound before being taken off the field on a stretcher as his teammates looked on. In a statement after the game was called, the Rays said Zombro was transported to Duke University Hospital where he was in stable condition and undergoing further treatment and observation. The team said additional updates would be released when they become available.
The wife of Atlanta Braves left fielder Marcell Ozuna said he threatened to kill her during their argument that led to his arrest. Authorities arrested Ozuna (blog) last Saturday and charged him with aggravated assault by strangulation and battery. The arrest affidavit said Ozuna’s wife, Genesis, was showering when he took her cellphones and refused to give them back. According to reports – “He threatened to kill her and she threatened to call 911. She took his cellphone from a table and called 911.” After chasing Ozuna outside of their home, Guzman walked back inside while on the phone with the 911 operator. Per the affidavit, while on the call, she said Ozuna was coming back inside and that she was grabbing a kitchen knife for protection. He also said Guzman threw a garden light toward him at one point after he exited the house. The Braves issued a statement about Ozuna’s arrest, saying they “fully support Major League Baseball’s policy on domestic violence which stresses to the fullest that our society cannot and will not tolerate domestic violence in any form.”
Bob Baffert has been suspended for two years by Churchill Downs after a second post-race sample confirmed the presence of a pain-reducing steroid in the blood of Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit. The Cleveland Indians are narrowing a final list of new team names and vetting them for legal purposes after months of research and discussions with fans. The team announced in December that it is changing its name for the first time since 1915, a decision that came as part of a national movement to remove and replace prejudicial names and symbols. The team began meeting with groups of fans in February, and on Thursday it revealed that after several brainstorming sessions that also included community leaders, local influencers and staff members, nearly 1,200 potential names were aggregated. After further conversations, that list was whittled down to extract the top choices. It’s not known how many names are being given final consideration for what will be the team’s new identity.
The United States Football League announced Thursday that it plans on returning in the spring of 2022. The league, which initially launched in 1983 but halted its operations after the ’85 season, will target a minimum of eight teams instead of the 12 it initially consisted of and will utilize Fox Sports as its broadcast partner. Fox Sports, according to the official release, also owns a minority equity stake in the company that owns the USFL. The initial version of the league featured a number of standout players, including running back Herschel Walker and quarterbacks Doug Flutie and Steve Young.
