A group of Netflix employees is planning a company-wide walkout next week to protest the company’s handling of concerns over Dave Chappelle’s latest comedy special. The group includes both transgender employees and allies. The walkout is for Oct. 20. Netflix defended the special on Monday, writing in an email, “We don’t allow titles (on) Netflix that are designed to incite hate or violence, and we don’t believe The Closer crosses that line.” The walkout plan, posted to a public company channel read: “I encourage all [members of] Trans* and allies not to work for Netflix that day. …this comes one day after Netflix reinstated three employees who were suspended earlier this week for crashing an executive meeting. At the time of the suspension, a Netflix representative said the employee was not suspended for tweeting about the special but because the employees were not authorized to attend the meeting.
OLIVIA WILDE is all for the “Free the Nipple” movement. In an interview with “Vogue”, Olivia said, quote, “If we are allowed opportunities to celebrate our body, it has an effect on how we treat one another and how we treat ourselves. I wish that in this country we weren’t so terrified of women’s bodies . . .”We have this kind of puritanical perspective on nipples . . . I think it’s really silly. And it’s really hilarious to navigate this society’s fear of women’s bodies, even though without them we wouldn’t be here.” Olivia also did a nude, “unretouched” photoshoot for a sustainable skincare line called True Botanicals. She said, quote, “Beauty isn’t an obligation in order to interact with the rest of the world . . .”This is about interacting with ourselves and celebrating ourselves.”
JAMES GUNN, of “Guardians of the Galaxy” fame, wants to make a “Gilligan’s Island” movie, but with a dark twist: In his version, the castaways get desperate and hungry, and start killing and eating each other. The idea originally came from screenwriter Charlie Kaufman, who wrote “Adaptation”, “Being John Malkovich”, and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”. Gunn says Kaufman pitched this idea in the ’90s, and Warner Brothers wanted to do it. But “Gilligan’s Island” creator Sherwood Schwartz refused. After Gunn hit it big with “Guardians”, he went to Warner Brothers and Kaufman to try to resurrect the movie. Schwartz was dead by this time . . . but his ESTATE nixed it. So its ok to do Rescue from Gilligan’s Island, The Castaways on Gilligan’s Island The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan’s Island. The New Adventures of Gilligan] An additional character was Gilligan’s pet, Snubby the Monkey. Gilligan’s PlanetSurviving Gilligan’s Island Gilligan’s Island: The Musical?? But Gunn says that if the Schwartz estate ever changes its mind, he’s ready to go. So who would go first? Also, Dawn Wells who played Mary Ann recently died. Her will was pretty thought out. She didn’t really have money to split up. But each of her heirs, friends and family, were allowed to submit from a list what of hers they wanted. If someone wanted the same item an executor would decide. She had no spouse or kids (LINK)
JAMES JUDE COURTNEY was the right guy to play Michael Myers in the new “Halloween” trilogy . . . because he has experience hanging out with LEGIT MURDERERS. James says he prepared for an earlier role as a killer by living in a psych ward with paranoid schizophrenics who had actually killed people. Later on, he was writing the life story of a guy who had worked as a HITMAN . . . and for a while they actually lived together. And during that time, he taught James how to MURDER SOMEONE PROPERLY. His advice? “Get in, get the job done, get out.” So that’s the attitude he brings to his portrayal of Michael.
We all know that the lyrics to “Brown Sugar” are a little troublesome. That’s why the ROLLING STONES aren’t playing it on their current tour. But a lot of people want them to put it back in the set list. And PIERS MORGAN is one of them. In a new column, he tells the band to, quote, “grow a pair” and sing it “loudly and proudly.” He says, quote, “There is nothing racist about ‘Brown Sugar’. “It’s a song, as Keith Richards says, that highlights the appalling historical reality of slavery, not one that celebrates it. It depicts female slaves being sold, whipped and raped in America’s south.” He adds that the Stones shouldn’t have to drop the song when, quote, “the charts are full of rappers glorifying violent sex, misogyny and guns . . . Nobody dares go after rappers for fear they would be considered racist. “Yet ironically, many rapper lyrics are themselves appallingly racist.” (LINK)

NIKKI SIXX dropped a HUGE bombshell yesterday . . . admitting that MOTLEY CRUE was “most probably” a sexist band back in the ’80s. But he says all the bands were doing it, and he blamed the previous generation . . .quote, “In the ’70s, when I grew up, it was just the messaging that came through, and you were emulating your heroes . . .”When someone is talking about guns and sex and drugs, you’re like, ‘This is [effing] dangerous, man. This is not mom and dad’s music.’ So it was a different time. You can’t rewrite history, man.” Nikki did clarify that he’s a different person than he was back then. He said, quote, “I’m really looking at somewhere between 25 to 30 years of not sticking needles in and drinking alcohol and taking pills and stuff . . . I actually lead a pretty clean lifestyle.” (LINK)

Former employees have said that lawyers representing the Washington Football Team offered a financial settlement in exchange for public silence concerning the alleged workplace sexual harassment multiple former female employees endured. Details were not released but, a former marketing coordinator who was one of the first to go public with her experiences, said it was “disrespectfully low.” The lead attorney for former female team employees, told them that in exchange for money, employees would have to sign nondisclosure agreements as well as agree to no longer do press interviews or post on social media about their experiences. In 2020, the Washington Post released a report that included 15 former female employees of the team describing their experiences with sexual harassment and verbal abuse within the organization. Additionally, WFT cheerleaders alleged they were secretly videotaped while getting undressed, and later reached a settlement with the team.

Alex Ovechkin went from being a game-time decision to making more NHL history last night. The Washington Capitals star scored twice in the team’s 5-1 victory over the Rangers, giving him 732 career goals in 1,198 games. Those goals put him into sole possession of fifth place all time in NHL career goals. The 36-year-old captain was questionable for the Capitals’ home opener with a lower-body injury he sustained in their preseason finale. Head coach peter Laviolette made some history of his own, earning his 674th win and passing John Tortorella for the most wins by an American-born head coach in NHL history.
Ray Fosse, the MLB catcher whose career was upended when he was bowled over by Pete Rose during the 1970 All-Star Game, has died. Carol Fosse, his wife of 51 years, said in a statement online that Fosse died Wednesday after a 16-year bout with cancer. Fosse was a talent for Cleveland when he made his first All-Star team as a 23-year-old in 1970, the same year he hit .307 with a career-high 18 homers and won the first of two Gold Gloves while throwing out 55% of attempted base stealers. He was 74. Rose barreled over him to score the winning run in the 12th inning of the exhibition at Cincinnati’s Riverfront Stadium. Fosse fractured and separated his left shoulder, and he said back in 2015 his body still ached 45 years later.
