The World Series begins tonight. Game 1 is in Arlington, Texas as the Rangers host the Diamondbacks.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are four wins away from awarding one sports bettor the payout of a lifetime. Someone wagered $10,000 at FanDuel Sportsbook on the Diamondbacks to win the World Series on Oct. 1 — the last day of the regular season.
If Arizona can upset the Texas Rangers and take home the World Series trophy, the FanDuel bettor will take home more than $1 million. As of this writing, the Diamondbacks are +148 to win it all while the favored Rangers are -174, so hedging should definitely be in this bettor’s best interest if he or she hasn’t already done it.
Arizona’s Cinderella run is already among the most historic underdog stories in recent baseball history. The Snakes entered the season with +12500 odds to win the World Series at BetMGM Sportsbook, the eighth-worst odds in MLB. Those implied odds gave Arizona less than a one-percent chance (.79 percent implied) to win the World Series.
A World Series win would set the record for having the longest spring training odds since 1985 (Preseason odds go back to 1985), passing the 1991 Minnesota Twins, who won it at +8000, according to SportsOddsHistory.com.
The Diamondbacks clinched a playoff berth the day before the bet was made, but they still sat as extreme long shots as the wild-card round began
