MICHAEL K. WILLIAMS from “The Wire” was found dead of a suspected heroin overdose at his Brooklyn apartment yesterday afternoon. He was 54 years old. Williams was discovered face-down in his dining room. It’s not clear when he died. A relative spoke to him on Friday, but he failed to show up for an engagement on Saturday. A nephew went to check on him yesterday. Williams played Omar Little on “The Wire”. His other credits included “Boardwalk Empire”, “12 Years a Slave”, “Hap and Leonard”, and “When They See Us”. He actually started out as a back-up dancer for Madonna and George Michael, before he was encouraged to try acting by Tupac Shakur (LINK)
Legendary “Today” show weatherman WILLARD SCOTT died Saturday. There’s no word on the cause of death. He was 87 years old. Scott spent 65 years at NBC. He joined Tom Brokaw and Jane Pauley on the “Today” show in 1980, where he famously wished viewers happy 100th birthdays. He stepped aside as the regular weatherman in 1996, and was replaced by AL ROKER. But he continued to make regular appearances until his retirement in 2015. He also created and portrayed the original Ronald McDonald (LINK)
STANLEY TUCCI secretly battled cancer in 2018. It was a tumor at the base of his tongue. Stanley said, quote, “It was too big to operate, so they had to do high-dose radiation and chemo.” His first wife passed away from cancer, so he was hesitant about doing treatment after seeing his wife go through it. Stanley said he had a feeding tube for six months and could barely make it to his twin kids’ high school graduation. The positive news is that he says the cancer is unlikely to return. And he says, quote, “[Cancer] makes you more afraid and less afraid at the same time. I feel much older than I did before I was sick. But you still want to get ahead and get things done.” You can read his interview in “Vera Magazine” (LINK).
After confirming his Stage 4 lymphoma diagnosis 3 months ago, blink-182’s Mark Hoppus has completed chemotherapy. Former bandmate Tom DeLonge shared a text exchange he had with Hoppus a few days ago, telling him no other chemo treatments were planned, adding “The doctor said I can take my port out…I think because he thinks the chemo did the trick and I’m done but if the chemo didn’t work we do a different treatment entirely.” DeLonge’s caption read that Mark’s “chemo treatments have subsided and it looks like they may have worked wonderfully.”
MEGAN FOX and MACHINE GUN KELLY hinted at having sex on their Airbnb’s kitchen table. Megan posted a photo (LINK) with the caption, quote, “When I tell you that the table at this Airbnb saw some things.” To which MGK commented, quote, “I’m really glad that’s not our table anymore.” Then he deleted his comment. So next time you decide to stay at an Airbnb . . . maybe bring some cleaning supplies. You never know what’s gone on . . . ’cause not even kitchen tables are safe (LINK)
In a post (LINK) celebrating their third anniversary earlier this summer, Kaley Cuoco said about her husband Karl Cook, quote, “Why have you stayed married to me for so long?!” Kaley and Karl got married in June of 2018. Which leads to this late summer announcement…KALEY CUOCO is divorcing her husband Karl Cook after three years of marriage. They issued a statement saying, quote, “our current paths have taken us in opposite directions.” But they added that there’s “no anger or animosity” (LINK)
They don’t have any kids. This was Kaley’s second marriage. She divorced tennis player RYAN SWEETING in 2016.
Recall I mentioned recently that while filming Mission Impossible 7, the BMW X7 that was being used to drive Tom Cruise around was stolen. Lots of his stuff was in there. $1000’s worth of his personal stuff. Oh btw and a copy of Top Gun Maverick!! The car was found about 3 miles away and the copy of the film was in there BUT they are obviously concerned that the film was copied. Top Gun Maverick had been delayed alongside Mission: Impossible 7 as cases of COVID-19 continue to surge. The Top Gun film will now released on May 27, 2022 instead of November 19, 2021, while Mission: Impossible has been delayed to September 30, 2022, having been originally intended for May.
“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” now holds the box office record for the largest Labor Day four-day weekend opening with $90 million…nearly TRIPLE the old record held by ROB ZOMBIE’s “Halloween”, with $30.6 million in 2007. “Shang-Chi” has a three-day total of $75.5 million, which is the second-biggest theatrical debut for 2021 behind “Black Widow” at $80.3 million. Unlike “Black Widow”, “Shang-Chi” has an exclusive 45-day theatrical release, so you won’t be able to catch it on Disney+ Premiere Access just yet (LINK)
After already getting four different release dates, Sony says it’s moving the film Venom: Let There Carnage for a fifth – and final – time to October 1st. So this is moving the date UP by 2 weeks. Why? Since Shang-Chi earned $90 million in its first four days at the box office, Sony’s feeling confident that Marvel fans will hand over their dough to see Venom’s latest installment.
The release date for the fourth film in the Jackass (LINK) franchise, Jackass Forever, had been pushed back from October 22 to February 2, 2022, but they are used to delays on set. Not covid but injuries. It has been 2 decades and $24 million worth of injuries. Johnny Knoxville (LINK) is the most expensive cast member at an estimated $8.66 million followed by Ehren McGhehey at $7.38 million and Steve-O (LINK) at $5.82 million. After that, Dave England comes in with $1.65 million, Jason “Wee Man” Acuña with $675 thousand. The list did not include Bam Margera due to various factors, including his exclusion from Jackass Forever (LINK) as well as “ongoing reports” regarding his mental health. The most expensive injury was the brain hemorrhage Knoxville suffered in 2020 while filming Jackass Forever with an estimated cost of around $2.5 million.
KANYE’s “Donda” sold 309,000 copies, is Kanye’s 10th #1, making him one of only SEVEN artists with at least that many. The others are the Beatles, Jay-Z, Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand, Eminem, and Elvis. It’s also his 10th #1 in a row, which is a record he shares with Eminem. DRAKE will have HIS 10th #1 album next week with“Certified Lover Boy”, which should move between 575,000 and 625,000 units. To be fair, “Donda” launched last Sunday, so its first-week numbers were based on only five days’ worth of sales. “Certified Lover Boy” came out this past Friday, so its numbers will be based on seven days.

Yesterday the Cardinals started a series with the Dodgers after losing 2 of three against the Brewers. And, the series with the Dodgers started off pretty rough. LA beat the Cards 5-1. Miles Mikolas wasn’t terrible but the bats were silent for the Cards. Tonight the two teams are back at it again with JA Happ getting the start for the Cardinals. As it stands right now…the Cards are 3.5 back in the Wild Card race.
Something pretty cool while the Cards continue to chase down a playoff spot…the team has announced their First Beer Friday games. Where, on select games, you can by a $15 tickets where you first Budweiser, Bud Light, or Bud Select is on the Cardinals. You can get all the info at stlcardinals.com.
NBC Sports’ Peter King has made his prediction for Super Bowl LVI….and it doesn’t involve Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes or Tampa Bay’s Tom Brady. King wrote in his Football in America column that we’re going to watch the Bills take on the Rams at the end of this season. King explains “I really liked the Bills and Rams when I went to their camps. I think it’s Buffalo’s breakthrough year, and I think [quarterback] Matthew Stafford gives the Rams… offensive confidence and explosiveness.” He’s gone this far with a Super Bowl prediction; so which team will win the big game, according to King? He believes the Rams will defeat the Bills in Super Bowl LVI, 33-24
Tyrod Taylor was officially named the starting quarterback for the Houston Texans and will make his debut for the franchise on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Quarterback Deshaun Watson is also on the Texans’ 53-man roster but is expected to be a healthy scratch on game days for Houston. Watson, who requested a trade in January, faces 22 civil lawsuits for allegations of sexual assault and inappropriate behavior.

Naomi Osaka, the reigning U.S. Open women’s champion, doesn’t know when she’ll play her next tennis match. On Friday night after losing to 18-year-old, unseeded Canadian Leylah Fernandez in the third round, through tears, Naomi ended the press conference by saying that she thinks she’ll take a break from playing “for a while.” It’s been a rough year for Osaka. She pulled out of both Wimbledon and the French Open this summer and saw the ripple effects of those decisions on the court in the Tokyo Olympics and now in this 2021 U.S. Open. After the match, Osaka described her return stats as “horrendous” and said overall that she “didn’t play that well.” She began to get emotional, but insisted on continuing to articulate her thoughts until she was finished: “Basically, I feel like – OK. Hmm, this is very hard to articulate. Basically, I feel like I’m kind of at this point where I’m trying to figure out what I want to do, and I honestly don’t know when I’m going to play my next tennis match.”
On Sunday, The National Women’s Soccer League announced that its championship would be played on Nov. 20 at Providence Park in Portland. Players quickly took issue with both the venue and start time. Providence Park is a turf stadium and that the championship match would begin at 9 a.m. in Portland. “Nine a.m. start is laughable,” one player said in a Tweet. “We deserve better.” Multiple players had issues with playing in a turf stadium instead of grass as well. One player said: “Adding two new franchises next season with beautiful grass stadiums all around the country — moving in a great direction and then we choose turf to play the final of the best league in the world?”
