Shaun Weiss (link), the goalie in the ‘Mighty Ducks’ movie, that was busted stealing and was homeless and was on drugs and dangerously thin etc…finished a court-ordered drug program, getting a criminal case dismissed … and is doing well. Shaun’s struggled with addiction for years … but he received his certificate from the judge. He’d entered the program back in March 2020 after getting busted for burglary. The D.A.’s Office said Shaun has “demonstrated perseverance during his recovery complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic. He had to move treatment and transitional living programs on several occasions. He underwent dental reconstructive surgery, and had a close family member suffer a serious accident during his treatment.” The D.A. added, “Shaun regained employment and has been traveling across the country making guest appearances and signing autographs. He received tremendous support from friends and fans of the character, Goldberg, he played in the 1992 hit ‘The Mighty Ducks.'” So his burglary case has been dismissed. Shaun was (link) busted back in January 2020 when he was popped for residential burglary. Cops said they found Shaun trying to steal stuff from a car in someone’s garage.
Joe Pytka directed the original “Space Jam” back in 1996. And he’s NOT a fan of “Space Jam: A New Legacy”. In fact, he’s got a LIST of things he doesn’t like about it. First of all, LEBRON JAMES doesn’t compare to MICHAEL JORDAN. He says, quote, “The truth is that LeBron ain’t Michael.” He says Michael had more “emotional credibility,” because the movie was based on the time where he temporarily quit basketball to try baseball. Also, unlike LeBron, Jordan was the biggest celebrity in the world when he made HIS “Space Jam” . . . and he brought in more star power for cameos. In addition, Pytka says the “New Legacy” soundtrack is “insignificant” compared to the original. And he also hated the look of Bugs Bunny in the sequel. He says that in the original, they worked hard to make sure Bugs looked like classic Bugs. But in “A New Legacy”, he looks like, quote, “one of those fluffy dolls you buy at an airport gift shop to bring your kid when your business trip has taken too long.”
Do you remember playing “Mouse Trap” as a kid? Well thanks to Fox, a new game show is in the works to bring the game board to LIFE. The obstacles will be oversized, and the challenges will of course require both mental and physical endurance. Each episode will end with a final round where the last two competitors have to work together to steal as much cheese as they can without getting, quote, “captured by the iconic Mouse Trap”. The “Mouse Trap” series isn’t the only project from Hasbro that’s in the works. There is also an animated “Clue” series being developed by Fox and a potential “Guess Who?” game show for NBC.

Eric Clapton (link) will not perform at U.K. concert venues that require proof of vaccination for entry. U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that nightclubs and other event locations hosting large crowds must require visitors to provide verification of their vaccine status. Guitarist and anti vaxxer Eric Clapton is having none of that…”Following the PM’s announcement…I feel honor bound to make an announcement of my own: I wish to say that I will not perform on any stage where there is a discriminated audience present,” He said he reserves the right to cancel the show. He now says he may pack up the Clapton clan and move away from England. “We’ll go and live somewhere else, we’ll start somewhere else.” Clapton has said in the past he had severe reaction to his AstraZeneca vaccine and wished he’d never done it.

Rivers Cuomo says Weezer’s next project will be a series of four albums called “Seasons,” with each being released on the first day of each new season in 2022. “Spring is kind of like happy chill. And then we move through to dance rock, like a Strokes-style album for the fall, and then sad acoustic, Elliott Smith-style for winter.” Meanwhile, Weezer is preparing to embark on the Hella Mega Tour with Green Day and Fall Out Boy. It kicks off July 24th in Dallas. And that show comes to town the second Tuesday of next week.
COLDPLAY’s new album is coming out in October. It’s called “Music of the Spheres”. But what’s most interesting is that five of the 11 tracks (link) have EMOJIS for song titles. They include a ringed planet, a red heart, and a sparkle. But I can’t guarantee that’s how they’ll appear on YOUR streaming service. Already on Apple Music (link), the titles are showing characters that look close, but they aren’t emojis. They’re actually called Unicode characters that are used in coding. Back in May, CHRIS MARTIN said, quote, “We’re trying to have the first album ever with some tracks that are just called emojis, but it’s proving tricky because of all the service providers.” So it sounds like they anticipated the difficulty of having these characters appear consistently on multiple platforms.

White Sox designated hitter Yermín Mercedes, one of the breakout stories of the 2021 season’s first month, announced that he’s stepping away from baseball “for a while” in an Instagram post on Wednesday. Mercedes, 28, was demoted to the Triple-A Charlotte Knights earlier this month after hitting just .150 since mid-May. On Wednesday, he was lifted for a pinch-hitter during the sixth inning of his minor league game and appeared to confirm his retirement plans in a post punctuated with, “It’s over.” Mercedes took the baseball world by storm to start the season, becoming the first player in the modern era to begin a season with hits in eight consecutive at bats. So why do we remember this guys name? Mercedes drew some criticsm of his manager, Tony La Russa, earlier this season after the rookie swung on a 3-0 pitch against a position player pitching in a game the White Sox led by 11, homering to center field. The home run drew a lecture from La Russa on baseball’s unwritten rules, with the 76-year-old calling Mercedes “clueless” in the process.
The Seattle Kraken officially has a roster. At least, a 30-man roster. Some deals may be made today as far as signing and trades, but the draft wrapped up with not many surprises. Some highlights, former Flames captain Mark Giordano, former Panthers goalie Chris Driedger, former Islander Jordan Eberle, former Blue Vince Dunn, and most recent Stanley Cup Champ Yanni Gourde (Gord) all were selected by Seattle. Devastating news from Bobby Bowden, the legendary Florida State coach just announced he is suffering from a terminal medical condition saying he is “prepared for what is to come.” 91-year-old Bowden, who won 2 national titles with the Seminoles, spoke out about his health status on Wednesday. Bobby is one of the best colleges coaches ever, earning more than 350 wins in his time as the Seminoles’ coach. Bowden has not fully recovered from his health scare last year when he tested positive for COVID-19 while getting treated for a skin infection. The report says the coach is currently under supervised care and “resting comfortably” at his home in Florida.
The Texas A&M athletic director is standing up for his school after a report that Texas and Oklahoma have reached out to the SEC about joining the conference. The newspaper cited an unnamed college official and said an announcement could come within a couple of weeks. Both Texas and Oklahoma said they would not address the report. The AD of A&M said “We want to be the only SEC program in the state of Texas. There’s a reason why Texas A&M left the Big 12 — to be standalone, to have our own identity.” Texas A&M, along with Missouri, left the Big 12 to join the SEC in 2012.
After facing the best boxer of his era, Logan Paul now could face one of the biggest UFC stars ever. Paul is discussing a boxing match against Anderson Silva that would take place later this year. The YouTube star recently battled Floyd Mayweather Jr. in an eight-round exhibition bout that went the distance, although no winner was declared. There has not been any decision about whether a potential fight against Silva would be another exhibition or a sanctioned match. Paul has only one official fight in his boxing career: a split-decision loss to fellow internet personality KSI. His brother, Jake Paul, is 3-0 with a win over former MMA fighter Ben Askren. Jake is set to face another MMA star in Tyron Woodley this August.
The Sept. 11 fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Vitor Belfort at the Staples Center in Los Angeles has been changed from an exhibition to an official fight. The fight will be eight two-minute rounds at 180 pounds. De La Hoya, 48, last fought in Dec. 2008, a loss to Manny Pacquiao. He is 39-6 in his career, winning 11 titles across six different weight classes. He is also the founder of Golden Boy Promotions, which promotes boxing and MMA fights. Belfort, 44, is a longtime MMA fighter who last stepped into the UFC’s Octagon in May 2018 at UFC 224, losing by knockout.
The United States Olympic team announced (link) Wednesday that women’s basketball star Sue Bird and dual-sport athlete Eddy Alvarez will be the 2021 Summer Olympic flag bearers for Team USA during the opening ceremony in Tokyo on Friday. Bird, 40, is set to compete in her fifth career Olympic Games. She is in search of her fifth gold medal after previously winning gold at the 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. The 31-year-old Alvarez is one of the most unique Olympic athletes in recent memory, as he will be making his Summer Olympics debut in Tokyo after previously competing in the Winter Games. Alvarez was part of the American speed skating team at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia, winning a silver medal in the 5,000-meter relay. After that, he focused on his baseball career and went on to appear in 12 games for the Miami Marlins last season at second base, third base and shortstop.
