There’s a pretty unique movie coming out on Peacock in two weeks called “My Son”. It stars JAMES MCAVOY as a man trying to find his kidnapped son. What’s unique about it is that James did the whole movie WITHOUT A SCRIPT. All he had were basic plot details for his character. Everyone else knew what was going on, though . . . so James had to improvise and react in real time to what was happening around him.
Paramount is delaying three of its major releases due to COVID . . . including the two big TOM CRUISE movies. “Top Gun: Maverick” has been delayed from November 19th of this year to May 27th of NEXT year. “Mission: Impossible 7” was supposed to come out on May 27th of next year, but it’s been pushed back to September 30th. And “Jackass Forever” was originally scheduled to come out in less than two months . . . on October 22nd. Instead, it’ll hit theaters on February 4th, 2022.

Netflix bought global rights of Seinfeld in 2019 for about $500 million. Hulu had it for 6 years. Now we have a premeire date on Netflix which is Oct. 1. The press release announcing the date is written as if Seinfeld were a new series with 1980s/’90s credits for stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Troll, Family Ties), Jason Alexander (Pretty Woman) and Michael Richards (UHF, Fridays). Seinfeld will also move to ViacomCBS (LINK) takes over cable rights to the show to run on Comedy Central, TV Land and Paramount Network.
ELLEN DEGENERES kicks off the 19th and final season of “Ellen” on Monday the 13th. And yesterday she announced a bunch of celebrity guests. Former All-Star pitchers John Smoltz and Al Leiter will end their in-studio work with MLB Network after refusing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. MLB Network began to implement a vaccine mandate for all employees Tuesday. Smoltz and Leiter will continue to work for MLB Network through the 2021 postseason but will work remotely. Smoltz is reportedly still slated to call a Division Series game for MLB Network on-site in October.
Washington Nationals vice president Bob Boone has informed the team that he will resign instead of complying with a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for all non-uniformed employees. Boone, 73, has been with the organization since 2005 and serves as a senior adviser to general manager Mike Rizzo. Boone was assistant GM and vice president of player development from 2006 to 2013.
More disasters for the Mets. New York Mets acting general manager Zack Scott will not join the team for its upcoming road trip after he was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated. Scott was arrested at around 4:15 a.m. Tuesday in suburban New York. Police found him asleep at the wheel of his SUV at a traffic light and determined he was intoxicated. He said Scott refused a breathalyzer test. The 44-year-old was booked and released and is due in court Thursday morning.
Star attacker Christian Pulisic and goalkeeper Zack Steffen will miss the Americans’ opening World Cup qualifier at El Salvador on Thursday night, two major absences as the United States tries to rebound from its failure to qualify for the 2018 tournament. Pulisic, the top American player is regaining fitness after testing positive for COVID-19. Steffen, has back spasms. Both did not board the Americans’ charter flight to El Salvador and remained in Nashville, Tennessee, where the U.S. hosts Canada on Sunday night in its second of 14 qualifiers.
Unvaccinated NBA players on several teams such as the Knicks, Nets and Warriors will not be allowed to enter home arenas or facilities for games and team activities taking place unless there is an approved medical or religious exemption. Following local government policies in New York and San Francisco, unvaccinated Nets, Knicks and Warriors players would not be allowed to play in home games. However, visiting players would be exempt from the vaccination requirements in New York City or San Francisco. The league also informed teams that media workrooms will return in the 2021-22 season and that separate press conference rooms—that will hold at least 15 distanced people—for both home and road teams must be available.
Rain poured through the gaps in the roof of Louis Armstrong Stadium on Wednesday night, disrupting second-round play at the US Open. Arthur Ashe Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium are the only courts that can be covered during bad weather, but even that was an issue as wind helped push rain through the space between the concourse and the retractable cover.
