Danny Trejo never meant to become an actor. It happened by accident. And you could say it happened because of his history taking and selling DRUGS and recovering. Danny spent more than a decade in and out of prison, but he eventually cleaned himself up and became a COUNSELOR. In 1984, an actor Danny was sponsoring told him that he was worried he would relapse on the set of his latest movie. So Danny visited him on the set. Someone saw Danny and offered him a part as an extra . . . in a prison scene. The guy said, “Can you act like a convict?” And Danny replied, quote, “I’m a professional.” Danny says, quote, “By the grace of God my whole life changed.” (Danny told the story on the latest episode of the PBS series “Finding Your Roots”. Here’s video.)
Zoe Saldana became the FIRST actor to have four films make over $2 billion at the worldwide box office. “Avatar: The Way of Water” surpassed $2 billion over the weekend. The other three movies are the original “Avatar”, “Avengers: Infinity War”, and “Avengers: Endgame”. In case you missed it, James Cameron became the first director to have three films make over $2 billion. They are the two “Avatar” movies and “Titanic”. (Yahoo!)
OK Go is probably best known for making some of the most creative videos ever. (Remember “Here It Goes Again“, with that crazy treadmill choreography?) But now they’re in a legal battle with Post, the cereal company responsible for Grape Nuts, Raisin Bran, and Honey Bunches of Oats, among others. Not long ago, they launched a new line of instant cereal cups called OK Go! Ever since it came out, the band has been threatening to sue them for taking their name. So Post just beat them to the punch and filed legal papers, asking a court to declare that they’re doing nothing wrong. They noted that their trademark application for OK Go! was approved last year, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office did NOT think the cereal would cause confusion with the band’s name. Now’s your chance to get an incredibly rare pair of Jordans — originally created a few years back to commemorate Biggie‘s birthday — and now the kicks are hitting the auction block, but they won’t come cheap! The Air Jordan 13s were designed in 2017 to honor what would’ve been Notorious B.I.G’s 45th trip around the sun … but the sneakers were never released. They remained locked away … until now. 23 pairs of the Jordans will be auctioned off at Sotheby’s … sizes 7 to 13. The auction tells us they expect each pair to sell between $2,300 to $5,200! There’s no reserve price, meaning bidding starts at $1 (and goes way up from there). As for the design of the sneakers … the 13s are black with a hint of red. The silhouette of Biggie is stitched on the tongue. They also feature the words … “it was all a dream” and “if you don’t know, now you know” on the inside of the tongue, which, of course, are some of Biggie’s most iconic bars from his 6-time platinum hit “Juicy”. As for why they picked 23 pairs to auction, and chose to auction the sneakers now … we’re told it’s to honor Michael Jordan‘s jersey number and mark the 50-year anniversary of hip hop music. Proceeds from the online auction, which ends February 3, will go towards the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation … an organization that helps inner-city kids excel in school by providing sponsorships and grants, among much more. Notorious B.I.G. — who was shot and killed in Los Angeles in 1997 — is considered one of the greatest rappers of all time and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020.
A fan fell from the balcony of the Apollo Theater during Drake’s Sunday night concert. Footage shows the person plummeting below as the show went on. Drake said, “Just got to make sure somebody’s okay.” He and 21 Savage left the stage while officials checked on person. The performance eventually resumed but we don’t know the extent of the person’s injuries.
We might see the final performance of Run-DMC this year. Darryl “DMC” McDaniels said he and Run would perform their last live concert this spring at Madison Square Garden. DMC explained, “Run-DMC is over. The only way Run-DMC gets back together is if The Beatles get back together. Can that happen?” He added, “It’s going to be the last episode of the documentary we’re doing. Run-DMC’s last show ever. ‘Cause it’s time for Run to go be Paul McCartney and me to be John Lennon. We done did what we could do.” DMC said the documentary is up for sale. He continued, “We’re gonna do it with Netflix or to the highest bidder. It’s going to be a live production. Run-DMC’s doing The Last Waltz at Madison Square Garden. Who wants to pay $100 million to own it?” Run-DMC is without their iconic DJ, Jay Master Jay, after his murder in 2002.
Brooks & Dunn have extended their Reboot Tour . . . and they’re bringing Scotty McCreery along to open the shows. It’ll pick up May 4th in Kansas City, and run into mid-June. You can check out all the dates on their website.
A “WaterWorld” performer at Universal Studios Hollywood is hospitalized after taking a 30-foot drop into a tank, and not coming back up for air … Authorities tell TMZ … the incident happened during a Monday show at the theme park. We’re told the performer went into the water — as planned in the show, but it was clear something went wrong when he did not immediately surface. We don’t know if the performer had a medical emergency while underwater, or if he was somehow injured by the 30-foot fall into the tank … possibly getting knocked out on impact. When folks noticed the performer wasn’t coming out of the water, we’re told employees pulled him out and he was given CPR on the spot for more than 5 minutes. Those employees were able to get his heart beating again, and the performer was then rushed to a hospital. It’s unclear what his condition is currently. A spokesperson for Universal Studios Hollywood confirms the performer is still being treated at the hospital. www.TMZ.COM
