Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is #1 in its domestic box office debut, earning $71 million. The numbers suggest that families are starting to feel comfortable returning to theaters.

The Academy has spoken:  WILL SMITH is banned from the Oscars for the next 10 YEARS.  The ban also includes all other Academy events. But he gets to keep the Oscar he won this year, and he can still be nominated, and WIN, Oscars while he’s banned.  In their statement on Friday, members of the Academy also admitted that they “fell short” in their response during the ceremony, and thanked CHRIS ROCK for keeping his composure. Will issued a statement saying, quote, “I accept and respect the Academy’s decision.” At a standup gig Friday night, Chris continued to NOT address the slap.  He said, quote, “I’m OK, I have a whole show, and I’m not talking about that until I get paid.  Life is good.  I got my hearing back.”

AMBER HEARD is hoping she and ex-husband JOHNNY DEPP can move on with their lives after their time in court . . . after all, she still has love for him.  In case you forgot, Johnny’s defamation suit against her kicks off today in Virginia and you can watch the trial on Court TV.  But in the meantime, she’s going offline for the next several weeks. In an Instagram post, she said, quote, “Johnny is suing me for an op-ed I wrote in ‘The Washington Post’, in which I recounted my experience of violence and domestic abuse. I never named him, rather I wrote about the price women pay for speaking out against men in power. “I continue to pay that price, but hopefully when this case concludes, I can move on and so can Johnny.  I have always maintained a love for Johnny and it brings me great pain to have to live out the details of our past life together in front of the world.” (LINK)

JENNIFER LOPEZ and BEN AFFLECK are engaged again. Jennifer teased a “major announcement” Saturday on Instagram, pointing fans to her online newsletter, OnTheJLo.com . . . where she posted a video of herself wearing her new engagement ring. One jeweler estimates it could be worth more than $5 million, maybe even $10 million. Ben and Jennifer were engaged once before, in 2002, but they called it off less than two years later. By the Numbers: Jennifer has been married THREE TIMES already, and has twins Max and Emme with ex-husband MARC ANTHONY.  Ben has been married once, to JENNIFER GARNER.  They have three kids:  Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel (LINK)

Jussie Smollett continues to prove his innocence. No better way then in song right? HE is out of jail while his lawyers appeal his conviction for staging a hate crime. Smollett, who was found to have paid two men (LINK)to pretend to be racist and homophobic Donald Trump supporters and attack him with a noose and bleach, released a nearly six minute long gospel-influenced R&B track called “Thank You God…” on streaming platforms. After a choir sings “thank you God for showing me my enemies,” He takes over. All proceeds are being donated to various charities.

“The Simpsons” aired an episode last night featuring the show’s first deaf voice actor.  It was also the first episode where characters use American Sign Language. Lisa meets a character named Monk.  He’s the son of the late Bleeding Gums Murphy, a jazz musician who was killed off in Season 6. Monk is voiced by JOHN AUTRY THE SECOND, who has appeared on “Glee” and the YouTube show “I Hear You”. You might be wondering how “Simpsons” characters can do sign language when they only have FOUR FINGERS on each hand.  Well, somehow, they figured it out (LINK)

Can’t find something to watch?  That’s your own dang fault.  Because you are NOT starved for choices. According to new data from Nielsen, there are 817,000 different TV programs you can choose on streaming and traditional platforms.  That’s up from 646,000 just two years ago. Nielsen says the average adult watches four hours and 49 minutes of TV per day (LINK)

I have a Squid Game update. Squid Game creator, director and writer Hwang Dong-hyuk. Two big names that are returning. “Gi-hun for sure. He will be back and I believe the Front Man will back too,” Hwang said. Although the return of these two main characters was expected, this is Hwang’s first public acknowledgment of their return.

The co creator of Better Call Saul Peter Gould says Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul will appear in the final season. He added that if we want to learn the circumstances for the two returning characters, we’ll just have to watch Better Call Saul’s final season

Brie Larson is the newest member of the Fast & Furious family. Jason Momoa is also set to join the 10th installment, directed by Justin Lin and scheduled for release on May 19, 2023.

Ozzy Osbourne has finished and delivered new album this week to his record label. He says he will be sharing more details in the next few weeks  “sharing all the information about the album and its upcoming release with you in the next several weeks.  Jeff Beck, Zakk Wylde, Chad Smith also and  Duff McKagan are a few of Ozzie’s guests.

Julian Lennon vowed to never publicly play his Dad John’s song Imagine. But he finally did. The occasion was pretty ripe. A Ukrainian fundraiser.  The benefit closed out a pledge drive that raised over $10 billion in public, private, and corporate funds for refugee assistance.

Sports Report 1

After starting the year off 2-0, the Cardinals headed to the field yesterday afternoon for game 3 of the opening series with the Pirates.  It was also the debut of Steven Matz in a Cardinal uniform.  And things didn’t go so well.  Despite Nolan Arenado hitting a homer in the bottom of the 1st, the Pirates picked up the 9-4 win as Matz gave up 7 runs in 3 innings.  Today, the Cards wrap up their series with the Pirates with a 1:15PM game.  Dakota Hudson gets the start for the Cardinals.

Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred gifted major league players Bose headphones on Opening Day as a peace offering after a bitter 99-day lockout that delayed the start of the season. Major League Baseball confirmed that headphones and a letter signed by Manfred were left at the locker of each player when teams began their seasons Thursday and Friday. “Please accept this gift as a small gesture of my appreciation for the hard work that comes with being a Major Leaguer and your respect for our incredible. Thank you for everything you do in a game that has such a rich history and deep meaning to our fans in the U.S. and around the world. Wishing you the best of luck for a successful season.” Asked what Manfred could do to mend things this spring, at least one player,  Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright, said he thought the damage was irreparable. “To just put it bluntly, he doesn’t do anything for us. I know how that’s going to read, so Commissioner Manfred, don’t take it personal. That’s just how it looks from a players’ standpoint.”

The Blues had a pretty solid weekend.  On Friday they picked up a 4-3 win in overtime against the Wild, and then on Saturday the scoring came in handfuls as they beat the Islanders 6-1.  Up next – the team goes to Boston for a game against the Bruins on Tuesday.

The NBA playoffs are here.  The play-in games are set and starts tomorrow.  Up first you have the Cavaliers and the Nets going at it at 6PM followed by the Clipper sand the Timberwolves.  Then on Wednesday you have the Hawks and Hornets up first followed by the Spurs and Pelicans.  In the west, you have Phoenix at the top and they are joined by Dallas, Utah, Golden State, Denver, and Memphis.  On the East, Miami is on top followed by Boston, Milwaukee, Philly, Toronto, and Chicago.

One thing to note: Matisse Thybulle – he played for the 76ers.  He is unvaccinated.  That means he will be UNABLE to play in games against the Raptors up in Toronto.  When asked if he would get vaccinated to play in Canada…he said…

While we are talking Philly basketball — Saturday’s 41-point performance against the Pacers all but guaranteed Joel Embiid his first career scoring title. On Sunday, the he officially claimed the throne. Embiid finished the 2021-22 regular season as the NBA’s leading scorer with an average of 30.6 points per game. He secured the honor after the Bucks announced Giannis, the NBA’s would not play in the season finale due to a knee injury. Embiid is the first center to lead the league in scoring since Shaquille O’Neal during the 1999-2000 season. He is also the first big man to average 30-plus points per game since Moses Malone did so with the Rockets in 1981-82.

One more thing from basketball – the star studded Lakers did NOT make the playoffs.  LeBron was unhappy, the team was injured all year.  Lots of things made it uneasy for head coach Frank Vogel.  And all that doesn’t matter because the reports are that he could be fired as early as today.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback DWAYNE HASKINS died this weekend when he was hit and killed by a dump truck on a highway near Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  Not much is known about the incident yet, but reports are that Haskins stopped along the side of the highway and got out of his vehicle . . . possibly because he ran out of gas.  He was trying to cross the highway when he was hit. It happened early Saturday morning. Haskins was drafted out of Ohio State in 2019 by Washington, but released after two seasons.  He was in Florida training for what would have been his second season with the Steelers. Coach MIKE TOMLIN called him, quote, “one of our hardest workers,” a “great teammate,” and a “tremendous friend.”  He was only 24 years old.

And finally — The No. 1 golfer in the world has won the No. 1 major in the sport. Scottie Scheffler dominated the final three rounds of the 2022 Masters en route to a green jacket, and a record $2.7 million payout finishing with a 10-under to win his first career major on Sunday. Scheffler became the fifth golfer to enter Augusta National ranked No. 1 in the world and go on to win the Masters, joining names like Fred Couples (1992), Tiger Woods (2001-02) and Dustin Johnson (2020). The victory was his fourth on the PGA Tour this season, making him the first golfer since Arnold Palmer in 1960 — and only the second ever — to win as many events including the Masters in that span of time to begin a season.  How did Tiger do?  He made the cut.  But that’s about as much as we can say for Tiger who ended up finishing 13-over at the end of the weekend.  Here is what he had to say…  Whats next for Tiger?   Sunday he did commit to playing in The Open at St. Andrews in July and said he may play in next month’s PGA Championship
