A New York appellate court has upheld Harvey Weinstein’s rape conviction. The former Hollywood mogul is serving a 23-year prison sentence after he was convicted in 2020. He’s still awaiting trial on further charges in Los Angeles. Attorney Debra Katz, who represented Weinstein’s accuser Dawn Dunning, hopes the decision will remind women that “when they come forward, even the most powerful men can be held accountable.”
The Johnny Depp-Amber Heard trial is finally over. One of Depp’s quotes after the verdict was that he got his life back. Will either of them be hirable after this? One former Disney exec thinks Johnny Depp will be fine – telling People magazine that he expects a Pirates of the Caribbean reboot with Depp on board as Captain Jack Sparrow. He said there’s “too much potential box-office treasure for a beloved character deeply embedded in the Disney culture”.
With “Top Gun: Maverick” dominating the box office, an old clip of QUENTIN TARANTINO discussing the original movie is going viral again. It’s from a 1994 indie flick called “Sleep with Me”, and Quentin’s character is telling another guy how “Top Gun” is actually about REPRESSED HOMOSEXUALITY. He explains that Maverick is “on the edge” of going gay, and Iceman and his crew are trying to get him to take the plunge. KELLY MCGILLIS’ character is trying to pull Maverick “the normal way” instead. But she can see that he’s being pulled “the gay way,” so she dresses more MASCULINE to win him over. But in the end, she FAILS . . . because Maverick and Iceman have pledged to be each other’s wingmen . . . or something like that.
Directors have confirmed that their upcoming “Batgirl” movie for HBO Max will feature Michael Keaton as Batman. To quote…”F yes, The O.G. Batman is in the movie.” Keaton became the first actor to play the iconic DC Comics superhero on the big screen when he starred in Tim Burton’s “Batman” in 1989. He returned to play the character in the sequel, 1992’s “Batman Returns.” In April it was announced that Keaton would return to the role for “The Flash,” the standalone movie about the speedster superhero played by Ezra Miller. Now the only question left is which movie will unveil Keaton’s return first: “The Flash” or “Batgirl” (LINK)

One of the creepiest killer spider movies is getting a remake. It’s “Arachnophobia”, the classic 1990 horror comedy that starred JEFF DANIELS and JOHN GOODMAN. If you’re not down with remakes, that’s understandable. But this one seems to be in good hands. It’s being done by Christopher Landon, who made the BRILLIANT horror comedy “Happy Death Day”. He also did “Happy Death Day 2U” and “Freaky”, starring VINCE VAUGHN as a serial killer who switches bodies with a high school girl. He also wrote three “Paranormal Activity” movies, and directed one of them (LINK)

Betty White‘s longtime home in Los Angeles where she was living at the time of her death has sold for more than its asking price. The 5-bedroom, 6-bathroom Brentwood property was listed at $10.575 million and sold for $10.678 million. The backyard comes complete with a swimming pool and beautiful views of The Getty Museum. Those interested in the home first had to be prequalified, and were not allowed inside … so almost safe to say it could be torn down for a new build. Betty spent most of her life there, first moving in in 1968 — and living there until her death (LINK) on New Year’s Eve 2021.

Rumors recently sparked that the NBA could add two new franchises after the 2024 season. However, NBA commissioner Adam Silver denied that discussions are currently happening for an expansion, for now. The commissioner spoke with reporters ahead of Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the Celtics and the Warriors, and said there are currently no discussions of expanding the league. This doesn’t mean it won’t happen necessarily, just that there haven’t been any moves to make the expansion a reality yet. Bottom of Form
“We are not discussing that at this time,” Silver said. “As I’ve said before, at some point, this league will invariably expand, just not at this moment.”
Nike founder Phil Knight and Los Angeles Dodgers part-owner Alan Smolinisky have delivered a written offer of more than $2 billion to purchase the Portland Trail Blazers and plan to remain aggressive in acquiring the team. Knight and Smolinisky have engaged in discussions with the Paul Allen Trust overseeing the franchise, but a Trail Blazers spokesperson issued a statement Thursday saying simply: “An offer was made by Phil Knight. The team remains not for sale.”
A 23rd plaintiff filed a lawsuit against Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson on Tuesday. All of the 23 active cases regard sexual misconduct. The newest lawsuit claims in a footnote that last year before cases were filed, Watson offered each plaintiff $100,000, along with an “aggressive nondisclosure agreement.” According to reports, the Dolphins, who were interested in trading for the quarterback in 2021, wanted all 22 cases active at the time settled with NDA language before making a deal. However, only 18 of the 22 women were willing to accept the $100,000. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell revealed last week that the league is “nearing the end of the investigation” into Watson. However, no timeline was provided on when a ruling would be issued by the disciplinary officer.
